I would never recommend Turf Direct to anyone looking to put in artificial grass due to poor customer service, poor communication, condescending management, and possibly poor installation. The sales guy will treat you like gold until you sign and cut your check for half the cost of the project. From there, you get handed off to their scheduling department, which was a nightmare to deal with - because we were pushed out two weeks longer than we were led to believe by sales, we had to call to even GET scheduled, and there was no follow-up call the day prior to service to indicate process, time of arrival, etc. Instead, we have people at our doorstep before 8AM asking "are you having landscaping done today?" They did not identify themselves as employees of Turf Direct, presented no work order, and just dumped materials in our driveway that blocked access in and out of the home (without asking or ensuring we would be here all day long). The "foreman" told me the project would take one day. It did not. The crew left and nobody said a word. Our yard was left looking like a dirt bike playground. I would not have any issue with the project taking two days, but Turf Direct doesn't communicate well at all. I was lucky to get communication at all. We had several issues during the installation, including being yelled at by the girlfriend/spouse/friend of a Turf Direct (supposedly) who entered our backyard without permission for not having turned off sprinklers. We were not informed to do so, and again, PROCESS and COMMUNICATION would have been key. We aren't trying to make installation harder. We could have saved gallons of water by turning off sprinklers. It had rained for the last week anyway, so I'm not even sure whether that would have helped or not. They were also leaving areas untouched that were supposed to have artificial grass, that I had to call the office to get done, and the office gave me the run around. I had to get in touch with the sales guy, who was able to confirm that yes, that was included, and yes, to do it. Turf Direct assured us they have designed many putting greens, and we, being trustworthy fools, thought they would design something that looked like all the other putting greens they have on their own site as portfolio work as well as what one would think of as a putting green (kind of a bean shape with holes and flags). They were going to put a giant square of putting green that went from edge to edge against pavers, so the balls would have knocked back and forth. I am lucky that I was home for both days they were installing to catch this, and I immediately called the office and emailed my sales person, because this was nothing as we had envisioned. This is when the office personnel was rude, condescending, and out of line. The attitude they gave me like I was a problematic customer (because I had called the day before to get them to install turf in an area we had paid to have it installed in - wow, what a bad customer! wanting what they paid for! that's on the diagram!). This person never had the courtesy to apologize. The putting green continued to be an issue, as it was just so poorly designed, even after the sales person came over and instructed the installation crew on how to install and what it should look like. It took several weeks to get them to "fix" it, and they would go 1-2 weeks without having the courtesy of replying back to us on when they would fix it. For example, the sales person came out to address how we would like the putting green to be shaped to make us happy, and we went over it. The sales person said they would get some designs from the office and get back to us the next day. Nope. Try over a week later and having to aggressively follow-up. Then they scheduled the salesperson to come out again to, essentially, repeat we already did: tell them what we wanted it to look like. This felt like a delay tactic to buy them another week to yank our chains. It should have taken no less than 30 minutes and remnants of turf (likely from our own installation!) to solve this. They treated us like garbage and went above and beyond to make it the most painful process we have ever dealt with on home improvement. I have waited several weeks to write this review. The final straw came when after we had a major rain and we had several inches of water sitting on one corner of the putting green (and nowhere else), I was concerned as hours later, it had not absorbed/drained. I took a photo and emailed our salesperson--because the turf is supposed to have a 10-year warranty--to ask whether the area was properly sloped to ensure proper drainage and never received a response. They made it abundantly clear that they do not care about their customers, quality of work, or standing by their work to us. This is a company that cannot communicate with customers effectively, and they lack organization/process. Stay away or be prepared to watch every step like a hawk. read more

This was the worst experience. Do not use turf direct. Trond and Ken have poor communication and you will end up suffering the consequences. Ken sure does know how to talk and sell you the crap that every other company is not as good as his. When my job was measured wrong by his sales rep Trond Ken wasn't happy and didn't want to make it right. Ken tried laying leftover pieces from other jobs in my backyard saying it's ok to have multiple seams in a backyard or he was going to have me pay the correct amount of turf needed. Then after hours of fighting with him he finally sends out the correct amount of turf, his employees were exhausted the turf was not laid correctly with multiple mistakes. Ken then tried to run my credit card for an amount not even on my contract agreed upon with Trond. Ken decided to add on a few extra dollars I guess. Ken is a horrible business owner. Worst company to deal with after installation. They put in front and backyard. Back yard also had a putting green. Four years later one of the cups had a hole in it. Sand leaking everywhere. We called because it was under a 10 year warranty. I was under the impression it should be free. However they charged me $400.00 to replace a free cup. The manufacturer of the cup came through and replaced the cup, but Turf Direct did not. Needless to say they were done in 15 minutes. I would NEVER recommend them. D.L. read more

Turf installed with minimum ground prep, minimum base material and no weed barrier. As we questioned the process, they let us us know how we don't know anything and they are the the professionals. Now we are dealing with weeds and grass growing up through our turf which started within two weeks of install. We were told the turf would be bullet proof....I guess, just not weed proof. TurfDirect installed my turf going on 8 years ago now. The first 5 years were great not problems at all. However, around yer 6 I started seeing problems where the grass was coming apart from the backing. I called Ken who sent out a representative who said that it was burnt coming from window glare. That seemed very odd to me that this would just start happening in year 6, but the previous years it wasn't a problem. I contacted three other turf companies and each one said that it was not an issue with sun glare and in fact I would see a 'melting' affect not disconnecting of the blades from the backing. I then spoke with Ken and he adamantly disagreed and had the audacity then to say it was also do to having a dog and my normal usage of being on the turf. To be fair he has since offered to replace my turf but at a pretty significant price, which I don't feel is very fair. I would highly recommend searching elsewhere, as they do not stand by their product. read more

My husband and I got an estimate for our yard a few weeks ago. the turf direct employee was nice and knowledgeable, we thought on the offer for a few weeks and get back to him to let him know we want to proceed with the deal. Everything is good, he says he will come pick up the deposit the following day at 4pm and we can set an install date at that time. the next day 4pm comes and goes. We call this person several times to see if he was still coming (we had plans later to tend to). We get no call back, and he never shows up. After several calls we finally get a hold of him today and he says his boss didn't agree with the quote and said it was a no go. Really?? we were late for our plans, you couldn't show up, or even call to tell us this? we thought they were a great company until this happened. I cannot believe the lack of professionalism here. We had 2 referrals for them already, but those will not occur now either. read more

Install was not done properly. Turf Direct claims their turf is pet friendly. My dogs (Rotties) pulled up the 6 inch nails out of the turf ONE DAY after install. I called the company and they were unwilling to send anyone out to even look at what had happened. Doug and Ken from Turf Direct claimed that their installs never failed. That's why I had 15 nails that I gathered up from the project in my hand when I called the company. I got the run around from everyone I spoke with. Both Doug and Ken were quick to assume even before coming out to lay eyes on the project that my dogs had damaged the turf. The pictures we sent the company, since they were too busy to appear themselves, show absolutely zero damage to the turf. The only way that Turf Direct was going to send someone out is for us to foot the bill for $100 per hour. I don't think so. All I was asking for was some follow-up customer service. All I received was a defensive response to their never fail install process. Well, guess what? IT FAILED. Thanks a million! They claim to have done installs at pet resorts etc that have many dogs. So why couldn't their never fail install process stand up for more than one day against two very well mannered dogs? Obviously, I wouldn't recommend these scam artists to anyone.
