Our 3' river birches planted in 2017 are now 30' just 7 years later. The past 2 years the japanese beetles haven't liked to eat our birch trees nearly as much so we had full shade in our yard. They even helped us figure out what was killing our magnolia tree (it was planted too low in the ground...by us). So we dug it up and replanted it. It's thriving now.
