I crew up on Turner Dairy products and still buy them today. I only eat their French onion dip.

This is THE farmers market to go to when you need just about any sort of produce. Or something…read moreextra... but the regulars are Simmons, Janoskis, "the farm family", near Wood street bakery (fridays) and Pitaland, who have a fantastic variety of produce/herbs/plants, "the older guys" down towards the kettle corn (this doesn't arrive till June) Then you have food vendors- like Acou try Style Pizza, shaved ice, local honey, Coyne Family meats, the fudge lady, etc sorry I cannot name them all! Fridays only in May, then Things start rolling in June-August. Best part, this goes until November; it's covered, mostly enough parking except be prepared when corn season hits. Last Friday, the first market, Janoskis brought, French carrots, fennel, Sorrel, plants, tons of lettuces and cabbage- just to name a few. The AMAZING wood Street Bakery had their fresh breads, cinnamon rolls- so much good stuff that's hard to choose! And a new vendor came selling beautiful tulip bouquets. This has been a family favorite stop for over 20 years that we've lived nearby.

I just happened to be visiting the area and found out about this farmer's market. It was small, but…read morealso meant it wasn't overly crowded. You could get in and out fairly quickly if you knew exactly what you wanted. We arrived a few minutes after 5:30pm and there was a bit of a crowd already, but not the same magnitude of farmer's markets in the bay area. We only picked up a few veggies and fruit, all fresh and crispy, though one of the ears of corn we got had some smaller kernels compared to the rest of the bunch. Also managed to get some baked items, some gifts to take home, plus freshly cooked chinese dumplings! Besides the fresh veggies, these were a highlight considering there isn't much local asian food to choose from and definitely some of the better made dumplings I've had. Not too salty and not too oily. Great place to pick up a quick dinner or some last minute veggies.

I've become a big fan of this market in particular. There are multiple vendors with a good…read moreselection of fresh fruit and vegetables which I long for. Funny that the ripe tomatoes I crave were presented as "seconds" because they were so ripe. Perfect for me! Nothing better than cutting out the core of a truly ripe tomato (warm and not refrigerated -- they lose their flavor when cold), sprinkling some salt into the cavity, holding it over the kitchen sink and sinking your teeth into it, the juice and seeds running down your chin. Ahhh... Then, to my joyous surprise, I've discovered not just one but two fabulous vendors that I look forward to visiting. The Cookie Goddess (one Martie Allen) sells home made baked goods and I can't say enough praises for her flourless brownie. Seriously moist, rich, and chocolately! Give me more! At $1.50 each, you can't go wrong (except getting there after they're all sold out). Then, there is La Mendocina, represented at the market by its owner, Monica Aveni-Ranii. She provides Argentine fare and I can't get there early enough to try all her delights as some of them sell out early. I have tried her beef empanadas (2 for $5) and the dulce de leche she sells at $7 a jar and I'm definitely a fan! Let's see. I've also purchased organic catnip before. I don't know that my cats can tell that it's organic but they're happy so I'm happy. Dinner tonight consisted of my beef empanadas from La Mendocina, fresh corn and tomatoes from one of the local vendors, and a flourless brownie from the Cookie Goddess. Yes, this is one nice market, indeed! Open from 2 - 6pm on Thursdays mid June to early/mid October.

At 8:40 on Saturday mornings customers begin arriving waiting on vendors opening their booths &…read morestalls preparing for eager customers seeking locally sourced farm to market fresh produce or vendors offering foods featuring baked goods, freshly prepared meals & other varieties. Retail vendors are available offering unique products unavailable in stores. Regulars are easily noticeable walking towards their regular vendor spending a considerable time amount with their favorites taking their day slow exploring the days live music or fun activities offered that Saturday enjoyed by adults, kids & families alike. One day I will partake in the full mid morning to afternoon experience enjoying everything this farmers market has to offer. My sister Introduced me to Swissvale farmers market 2 years ago & since have enjoyed vendors and stalls offered that Saturday. On occasion vendors rotate & new ones take their place that Saturday or become a permanent fixture. I suggest enthusiasts follow their favorite vendors on social media or the web as select vendors attend other farmers market venues and or are available online. Judging by stalls presenting fresh produce, farmers in attendance take pride in their crops & offer customers their best. My favorite stall offers concord grapes & ripe blueberries. Enjoying throughout the week as a smoothie or in cereal my fruits remained flavorful. My future purchases will include in addition to my tradition grapes & berries will be tomatoes green beans, apples & cider. Farmers here are informative reguarding their crops & will show customers friendly service & recommend their best crop. Advantages shopping the stalls over grocery stores are price supporting local farmers & quality. Customers who receive EBT are included with workers' swiping cards & recipients receiving wooden tokens in exchange & valid at stalls & select vendors. Local musicians liven up the atmosphere adding a fun ambience to the experience. My sister participated in one Saturday's fun activity which included sidewalk chalk drawing. Everyone who participated made wonderful artworks fascinating me with color variety & designs. Partaking in different vendors 3 favorites of mine included Great Harvest Bread Company Pita Land & Livengood Brothers Maple Syrup. Pepperoni Rolls & Cheddar Biscuits from Great Harvest Bread tasted best. Cheddar Biscuits got set aside & had during breakfast on Sunday & warmed up enjoying a buttery soft dough with cheddar flavoring consistency putting Red Lobster to shame & would recommend eating as a sausage biscuit or Biscuits & gravy. Maple Syrup at its finest offering superior flavor complimenting french toast pancakes, other breakfast delights or any recipe requiring syrup. Selling healthy alternatives to any potato chips or nachos. Pita Land sells Pita chips & paris with Hummus or select dips available at select vendors or stores. In addition to farmers markets Pita Land chips retail at select stores if you run low previous to Sat & crave Pita Chips. Excited with anticipation My return is evident exploring other vendors & stalls present. Include a favorite vendor in your review if you wish. Recommending other farmers market enthusiasts & myself to shop with.
