Came in early October for one of their fall festival weekends (which run all month long). Definitely not as packed as other pumpkins patches (probably because it's a bit further away than the other ones closer to the city). For $12-$14 you get a hayride up to the top and down when you're done. At the top they include access to the cornmaze, pumpkin patch, and (small) sunflower field with the hayride admission. They even had goats, sheep, pigs, and donkeys up there! It was a long tractor hayride too which was pretty entertaining seeing all the fall decorations. A large pavilion with a lot of shade was available for rest, along with games on the lawn like cornhole and frisbee. They also serve alcohol (beer, sangria, etc) near the pavilion. The sangria was actually super refreshing. 10/10 would recommend coming for one of the fall festivals! read more

Fun fall festival even for 21+! Lots of adult beverages to choose from around the farm. I liked taking the hayride up to the corn maze and seeing the animals. This was a cute place to check out for their fall fest but it felt a bit like a money grab. The hay ride to the corn maze and pumpkin patch was cute. The sunflower patch is cute too. I didn't love the corn maze since we just ended up back out the entrance but that might've been an us problem. They have a lot of food trucks outside and there's also a food court inside with things like apple cider slushie. The slushie is way overhyped, it was too sugary and gross. They did have amazing apple cider donuts though that were fresh. I loved the store with fall and Christmas decor and produce. I grew up going to Trax Farm's Fall Festival, and it's still one of my favorite fall traditions. I finally went to Trax Farms for the first time with my fiancé this year and we had a blast! So much fun, so much to see and do. We especially loved all the food truck options, the Roaming Bean coffee truck for a great fall iced coffee, and the shops. I ended up getting my mom a birthday present from the Trax store (they had SOO much stuff) and I got a set of Johnson Brothers vintage dishes! Trax Farms has an impressive amount of food, shopping and activities that was really such a fun way to start off the fall festivities. The apple cider donuts sold at the grocery store were so hard to find but holy moly: they were unbelievably fresh with the best apple cider flavors and so pillowy soft. Unreal. The pumpkin selection was plentiful and it was cool to see so many different types of pumpkins available too. They also had a wide variety of food trucks which was cool. The only real downside is that in order to visit the pumpkin patch, corn maze, and sunflower fields you had to pay $13 for the hayride that would then give you access to the aforementioned activities. When you have a place like Soergel's down the road that doesn't charge to enter the pumpkin patch or flower fields, this feels like a bit of a racket. We had fun but because my friends and I drove so far to get out there we felt obligated to pay the premium so we could enjoy the festivities. I get it, gas is pricey for the hayride, a corn maze takes time to set up etc. but maybe lower the price a bit or give an actual discount if you buy online. Also, please PLEASE give the animals in the pens more shade and more fresh water. They were all SO hot and flocking to any shade they could find. Love this place. It's great for getting groceries for a meal or for one off things. If you're looking for Aldi's prices this isn't it but it does sell local produce, so if you w ant to support the farms in the area, this is a great place to do it. Their garden center is unmatched in the area. We get our christmas tree every year from them and they even deliver it for a nominal fee. The workers are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They have great household decorations and kids games and gifts if you're in a pinch. The antique attic upstairs is a collection of over 20 individual sellers, which a lot of variety and rarities - you could get lost up there for hours. read more

Attended Fall Festival this weekend with coworkers and families! Fall Festival is a very busy time of year. As the day goes on, the crowd tends to grow. Fall Festival is a "free" event, but it seems kiddo activities at the Festival had additional fees. The website for Trax is super clear on what fees to expect, details the food trucks, and musicians for entertainment. If you plan to take the hayride to the top of the hill - which I highly recommend to be able to enjoy the pumpkin patch, yard games, animals, and the so fun corn maze, be sure to beat the crowds and preorder tickets online for the hayride ($10 per person). The activities on the top of the hill are included in the hayride fee and well worth it! It's best to get the first time slot at 10am for hayrides. We were on one of the first hayrides to the top of the hill and had enough time to get wonderful photos without having people in the background etc., and when we came down to the free festival an hour and a half later the parking lots were extremely full and it was super busy. They also have shaved ice for a small price at the top of the hill under a sizable pavilion with picnic tables. The crowd size actually deferred us from enjoying the many food trucks and activities, and after picking pumpkins and checking out the shop we were on our way. To note - the picnic tables by the food trucks were all full, but there were some empty ones right inside the shop at the permanent food and drink counter that I saw on my way out. I've been coming to Trax for years (how am I just reviewing?) they are always having fun festivals, and are extremely festive for fall and winter. There are fresh fruits and veggies grown on the farm, jams and sauces, homemade pies, a deli, beer, oh and even a wine tasting room and antique shop. Trax is a huge space, beautiful indoor plants and outdoor when the seasons are warmer. Today we stopped by to cut our own tree, the price was $50 which was much cheaper than most of their other trees that ranged anywhere from $70-$350. The selection was very, very limited.. but we had fun, it was an experience! It's getting dark super early, the last time to cut a live tree is around 4pm. We arrived at 5:15 or so and the gentleman running the tree area was kind enough to let us drive up and chop one down. read more

Decided to head to Trax farm for some socially distant outdoor fun. It's sounds like we're pretty close to the end of the season, but looked like there were plenty of blueberries to be had. Employees were pretty compliant both in the market and in the field. We spent a few hours collecting berries in the field. It was a bit more crowded than I thought it would be, but again it is one of the last good picking weekends. Many people wore masks but of course there were more than a few who did not. Children had their infants and toddlers joyfully enjoying the wonders of outside. Almost felt normal. After collecting berries we went to the small hut for them to be weighed. Cheaper than a market, and fresh. I'm the Market was pretty awesome to say the least. Artisan treats, fresh produce, wine, hot food, and plenty of other options. Spent a little too much time and money but everything was delicious. The highlight finds were locally sourced honey and Maple Mustard (amazing). Lots of goodies and gifts from local makers, growers and artists. I loved the Apple Spice and Blackberry wines that I got. When I go back, I'm getting those flavors plus more! Came here with my two kids for fall festival on sat. It was free to get in but $3/ticket for each time kids wanted to enter one of the bounce houses/slides. That took about 10 mins to blow $16. Then they wanted to do the hay ride. It was $15/person regardless of age of kids. It would have been $60 for our family to take a hay ride. Needless to say we will not be returning. ITS A FREAKING FARM! It's not the 4 Seasons! Everything is very overpriced here, go to Simmons Farm instead! read more

I love Trax! I was here often when I was younger - I took riding lessons in the area, so going to Trax to shop afterward was a regular occurrence. These days I'm not here as often since I don't live particularly close by, but I will still shop here on days that I'm up for the drive + willing to dodge other customers. On their website they mention that they're the oldest and most-awarded produce farm in the South Hills. Fortunately, they run a centralized storefront, so you don't have to wander through their 300+ acres to get your groceries! In addition to selling their home-grown produce, they operate a deli and bakery in the grocery section of this storefront. Near the grocery store's entrance, you'll also pass a separate room that just sells wine; I personally think it's worth visiting this room before you head on through the rest of Trax. That way you won't need to worry about coming back later and dealing with your full cart. In addition to the grocery area, there's a garden center and gift shop attached to the main storefront. Finally, on top of the main storefront described so far, Trax operates a full greenhouse that is probably a gardener's dream. So as you can see, plenty for you to choose from as a shopper! It's very easy to leave with a mixture of food and home or garden-related items, especially during the spring and summer. Trax does typically operate a range of events as well, although I have not attended them as an adult and cannot comment on them beyond knowing they exist and I enjoyed them as a kid (pumpkin picking, anyone?). I'm also not sure how they are proceeding (or not proceeding) with events in 2020. I admittedly can't give a full 5-star review because I have sometimes discovered that the produce I bring home is, er, let's say has some wiggly residents. It's admittedly not an ideal experience when it happens; finding the buggers isn't very delightful, plus it can feel like a waste of money on my end. Sigh. The danger of shopping fresh, I guess? Overall though, Trax is solid, and they're definitely one of the recognizable legacy businesses in the Pittsburgh area. One day, when I feel more comfortable with the world, I'll be sure to come out for one of the adult-friendly events. Until then, Trax Cider as sold at Giant Eagle will have to do! read more

I've been coming here since I was little, and it's very nostalgic me. I love it! Recently my boyfriend and I stopped by to pick sunflowers and visit the fields. It was so beautiful and the perfect date spot. I'm not sure how long this sunflower season lasts, but you have to schedule a visit online. It's $15 per car, and each person gets to pick 6 sunflowers. It was such an awesome experience, I would make it a tradition! Trax is great if you need produce, local groceries, and other rare finds. If you get hungry, there's a deli where you can get a sandwich made with boars head lunch meat. Simple & yummy. They also have a great section of plants and home goods to loom through! It's so much fun to just come here and browse, even if you're not looking for anything. I prefer coming here on days when it's not busy. It's always a great time when we go to Trax for the fall festivities. The main downfall is it does get very busy and crowded. My kids love picking out their own pumpkins at the top of the hill. The tractor ride is fun with all the different things to look at. The staff does a great job with keeping the tractors running smoothly. We did not have to wait too long to head back down the hill. One of our yearly things at Trax is looking for a new ornament for our Christmas tree. We love looking around their shop. On this trip we didn't purchase produce but have in the past and it's been good. Just wish it was closer to go on a more regular basis. read more

Trax Farms is a must-see for gardening enthusiasts and those who enjoy farm stand foods. The facilities are large and offer a huge nursery of perennial, annual, and indoor plants, along with all the gardening supplies you could possibly need. The market offers farm-fresh produce, local honey, wine, and other PA products. There's a small antique shop in the loft, and a deli and bakery are available on-site to enjoy a sandwich or sweet treat while you visit. The prices for most goods are higher than average, but you're paying for quality, local products. I really enjoyed my recent visit and will be returning soon to stock up on annuals for my flower beds! There's ample parking, too! read more

This year was my first time at trax since like 2008. I love how reasonable of a drive it is from the south hills area of Pittsburgh- it only took me about 20 minutes to get there . Trax has a huge farmers market, which is awesome. The food isn't overpriced, but the decorations that they sell are a little on the expensive side. They have a pretty decent sized area full of wine which is clearly my favorite spot in the shop :). My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday around 1- during a steelers game... And it was still PACKED. I mean, packed. The line for the hayride was insane, so we didn't wait for it. The lines to buy pumpkins were insane as well, but we were able to sneak inside where the lines were a little smaller. They have an awesome selection of pumpkins! And they weren't too pricey either. They also had a ton of flowers and lots were on sale due to the fall season. I ended up finding gorgeous orange mums for my mum (hehe) for only $10. Not bad! Trax is awesome, but I would recommend coming on a weekday if possible, to avoid the insane crowds, ESPECIALLY if you're coming in October. read more

Covid has made a lot of things different than usual, and it's frustrating when businesses don't communicate clearly what changes are going on with them. Trax Farms is offering hayrides this year when you purchase tickets in advance. Pick your own apples are not happening this year despite what their website would tell you. For safety considerations, I want to point out that most people aren't wearing masks outside in the pumpkin area because they value pictures for the 'gram over safety during a pandemic. I didn't grow up in Pittsburgh, but I remember having my go-to pumpkin farm. I used to head to Soergel's, but since moving to Dormont (South Hills area), we just didn't want to head North, I know, typical Pittsburgh who doesn't want to cross bridges and tunnels. So while Trax is still a trek for us, it's on this side of town! This year we went out to get some Pumpkins for our son's first Halloween. While he definitely isn't going to be doing any of the multiple activities (that look super fun!), it was still a really nice trip out. Parking is fairly easy and plentiful, although we went early on a Sunday morning in October. There's a large area outside to get any size pumpkin you want. Inside there's also a huge selection of different colored pumpkins, gourds and holiday decorations. But that's not all. The market inside is broken into three huge sections. There's the grocery store, the retail section (with decorations, home goods and outdoor supplies) and a smaller decoration section with wreaths, plants etc. It's well curated and pretty much everything I picked up I wanted to buy! I was so impressed that I wanted to bring my mom the next time, during the Christmas holiday. It did not disappoint! There's a massive selection of decorations and gifts, as well as a whole Santa room! You can also pick up your Christmas tree, live wreaths and many more Christmas items. The market portion is not large, but there's a lot of locally made goods as well as fresh produce. There's a small deli section, but the meat selection isn't big. It's not a huge grocery store like you'd think, but there's definitely enough to grab items to make for a decent dinner. There's also a little hidden upstairs room in the market that has vintage crammed into every nook and cranny! I didn't notice this on my first trip and just took a quick look around the second time. I definitely want to spend more time up there next time I visit! I forgot to mention they also have a dedicated tasting room for Arsenal Cider too! Plus, there's a small selection of craft beer in the market. You can grab lunch and head to the tasting room for a little boozy fun. read more

This is a great farm to visit all year round. They throw an amazing fall festival, but no matter when you come here, you'll enjoy it. We spent most of our time in the general store area, which was full of Christmas decor and gifts. My favorite space is the Arsenal Cider tasting room in the back of the general store. Their snowbound cinnamon cider is my absolute favorite-and they even have it in ice cream form right now. They also have a ton of local, fresh produce and shopping carts for convenience. My mom and I went to the winter wine festival to celebrate our birthdays. Were not huge wine drinkers but we wanted to do something different & the ticket price was great! They MUST check your ID even if you're 70 years old so keep that in mind. Don't forget to bring it and then complain that you're clearly over 21 - rules are rules. First problem- we were not told we could/should bring our own wine glass. I figured the booths would have little sample cups, but some of them forgot to bring them or ran out. It's better on the environment too so I would highly recommend bringing your own. We found a table to drop our stuff & tried to hit a few booths before it got too crowded. We tried Arrowhead (one of my favorites previous to the tasting) and Arsenal cider. Both gave a nice swig for us to try & thoroughly explained the notes we might sense and also the availability of wine for purchase. We started noticing a line filling up at what looked like a snack bar - we later found it it was to purchase a wine glass and/or wine glass carrier. The line was long the ENTIRE TIME we were there. I am not sure what was taking them so long to process a simple wine glass transaction but we could see people getting very frustrated that they were wasting a ton of time. Which leads me back to bringing your own - either provide a crappy plastic one with the purchase of a ticket, or tell people to bring their own. It was very silly that a ton of people spent at least 30 minutes waiting to purchase a wine glass when there were people standing around at the front gate for stragglers, and the Trax store was empty. They could have even funneled people there. My second problem- there was only one food stand (wood fired pizza - VERY GOOD!) and crepes. This was a huge oversight on their part. More foods go with wine than pizza and crepes - that was a ton of lost revenue as some people were even going into the Trax market and munching on snacks or a deli sandwich because they didn't want what was offered. I definitely think they should offer more food/beverage options. We got to try 4 booths before we gave up trying to nudge our way to the wine pourers because people just continued to stand around with their sample as if they were at a bar. It was pretty annoying but I'm not sure what I expected, nor how they could realistically improve this. All in all, I'm glad I went, I had some great pizza & a couple samples, and we weren't out a ton of money. I just don't think I'd go to another one. One time is enough! read more

I was sad to see so many unmasked shoppers at Trax today. I want to come again this fall, but am wondering if Trax can foresee any way they'll be able to manage making sure people are following mask protocol with such a hugely popular Autumn destination. It was extreme to the point that my family ran out of the store. I can't imagine how difficult this issue is to manage, but if business is to be open as usual, I believe it should be open safely. This place is great! They have a little bit of everything there and it's all so much to take in. I could honestly spend hours there if I had the time. They have a nice outdoor section and an amazing home decor section that I love. You can find unique things for the home and yourself. We come here every year during the fall festival. We usually pick Sunday mornings then leave right after eating lunch so we beat the crowd. That was not the case yesterday though since it was so hot! We hit up all the indoor area before going to the outside part-- walk around the market, then shop for a Christmas ornament and halloween decorations. In the outdoor area they have pumpkins for the kids to climb on, tons of pictures to put your heads in, and several kids activities. We always do the hayride which takes you up to the corn maze. They have a giant pavilion at the top of the hill where the hayride lets you off at. This year they had wiggle whiskey up there giving out samples and there was shaved ice for purchase. We definitely got the shaved ice because it was 85 degrees out. The corn maze ended up being a complete mud pit but I won't hold it against Trax. Not their fault the weather has gone bonkers. For lunch they have food indoors and they also have several food trucks. We got the kielbasa and pulled pork nachos. Nothing to write home about but it does the job. Anyways we love it here. Has been coming here for almost 30'years and was shocked and horrified to see a very crowded store with maybe a small handful of people in masks. Nothing enforced. No distancing enforced. More crowded than I've ever seen on a Thursday. The crowd and lack of masks was so bad I ran out of the store.
