Great smoothies, cold-pressed juices, vegan/vegetarian food options & exceptional customer service! This place is a little gem. I've passed this place for months and said I was going to stop in. I finally did yesterday and now I'm hooked! I've seen Turning Natural locations around the city before, but when this location opened in my neighborhood I had to give them a try and so glad I did. By no means am I vegan or a vegetarian guy..... more like a "meat"-atarian for sure lol....but this place proved to me to have the appeal and something to satisfy them all. For my first visit, I tried the Bob Marley Smoothie and must say it was on point.....soooo good! This bad boy was filled with the fresh goodness of mangos, papaya, peaches, guava, pineapple, BCAA's, apple juice, hemp protein! All fruit-- NO Ice!! I got a medium and I wish I would have gotten a large after enjoying it so much. I also tried a Veggie Pattie -- fresh house made patty with mixed vegetables, spices and filling of minced bits of vegetables like corn, carrots, and green beans. I must say this was my absolute favorite. It tasted like a chicken pot pie without the meat. And, yes!...this meat-head was completely satisfied and converted to a vegetarian for the moment while eating this thing. It was quite filling too. Totally was blown away by the taste and the flavor profile --something unexpected. In all, a great first experience. The establishment is very bright, open and welcoming. The guy at the cashier counter was very helpful and took the time to explain the menu and food options available which I really appreciated as a newcomer. I may not be vegan or vegetarian, but one thing sure I know is....I'll be back!! Interesting story and background on Turning Natural: Owned by a former aeronautical engineer, whose mother founded the business after being diagnosed with breast cancer. My smoothie was amazing ! I nice pick me up on this muggy day. Just want to thank the guys that helped me and my husband today. Nice service goes a long way. I tried the Bob Marley smoothie which had a perfect mix of mango, apple juice, hemp and some other things I forgot lol. Perfect combination of sweet and tangy. I also tried my husbands drink, he got the Muhammad Ali which was a strawberry and blueberry mix. I liked it as well because I love blueberries but I liked my drink better. I like my smoothies to be more sweet so it was right up my alley. The place is cute and clean and I love the plants, easy to locate and lots of parking on the street. I really LOVE Turning Natural! I usually go to the SE location but I'm happy there is a location in NW. As soon as I walked in I felt the vibe. It was super upbeat! I love the decor, and the over all color scheme. The employees were super inviting. There was a short line. One of the employees took my order while was in line and my order was ready when I got to the register. Turning Natural is a perfect option if you want a healthy food option. I've been a long time customer of Turning Natural and highly recommended their juices, smoothies and cleanses. My favorite smoothie is their Happy Hemp that comes with mango, pineapple, spinach, spirulina and hemp protein. So yummy! The black bean burger and spinach patty are pretty good too. I ordered the Happy Hemp Smoothie, Spinach patty, and definitely couldn't leave without that Sweet Potato Cake~ Everything was delicious; I'm talking -- sipping the smoothie so slow and even used a spoon to scrape the sides of my smoothie cup when I got home--delicious. I honestly don't know why I keep coming back. The customer service is abysmal and it blows my mind every time I attempt to give my hard earned money the way they treat their customers - esp in this neighborhood. I wait in line & the only young boy working the counter stops me as I order to answer his cell phone tell me to hold on and then ask the person on the other end if they were outside. Walks around the counter and goes outside. Understaffed is no reason for continued below average service & it doesn't matter what location. The fridge is always broken so you can hardly ever buy cold water or pressed juices. Just can't do it anymore. read more

I had a meeting in the next building over and this juice bar immediately caught my eye as I was leaving. I ordered the Bob Marley and it just might have been the best smoothie I've ever had. It was not too sweet yet it was bursting with flavor. I could taste all the fruits in the drink and it was so refreshing. Stopped by here for the grand opening of the new Takoma location. So excited to welcome this new (to us) juice, smoothie, and health food bar to the neighborhood! I love the mission of Turning Natural, and I'm so glad that they've brought another healthy option to Takoma DC. The menu offers a wide array of creative and tasty juices, smoothies, salads, and healthy food items in a bright clean and modern setting! And I love the idea of supporting a black woman-owned business, especially where the founder has such an inspiring story of how she left engineering to start this venture to help her mother beat cancer. As their website says, this is not just a juice bar -- it's a health movement! The Takoma location is their sixth store in the DMV, and I'm so glad to finally have one that's near me! As for the set-up inside -- it's similar to a Starbucks, in that you get in line, place your order, and can then watch as it's being made. You can grab any additional cold items you need from the cold-pressed juice case or fresh fruit/dessert case (which has vegan desserts from Dodah's Kitchen). You can also order salads and warm foods directly with the cashier. There were no tables to eat or drink inside, but I imagine that that is a feature of the pandemic. There is definitely space for a table or two at the very front of the store, across from the pick-up counter where you grab your finished drink. So maybe that will happen in the future. But for now there is built in bench seating along two walls -- so it is very comfortable and convenient to socially distance while waiting for your order as it was being fixed. Service was friendly. The lady working the cash register was super busy, but was very personable and welcoming to each person who came in. With the mask on, I wasn't sure if she was the owner herself or just an employee -- but either way, she was great! All in all, I had a good experience here and will definitely be back. There were a few snafus though that require me to shave off a star for this review. First, they were blasting R&B music at entirely too loud a volume for a juice bar. It creates the wrong vibe for the setting. The music is way too loud for the customers, and you have to talk at an elevated volume to be heard over it. Also they need to curate their playlist better. One of the songs blasting over the speakers was Rihanna's "S*x With Me." If you Google the lyrics to that song, it is self-explanatory why that should not be loudly filling the airwaves of a place like this. Also, the music should not be so loud as to make the music the focus of the restaurant experience anyway. Music in a restaurant or grocery store should be at a low enough volume that it's in the background anyway. So they definitely need to turn it down and stop playing filth on top of it. Second, either the barista did not make my drink order at all or it was made but was accidentally given to someone else. In any event, I kept waiting and waiting for my order -- only to find that it wasn't even on the barista's radar and he was going to have to make it (again?). So that was disappointing, but the lady at the counter was very apologetic and gracious about the whole situation. Finally, my one other issue concerns sanitation and food handling practices. There was a teenaged girl with super long black braids working alongside the barista to make the orders. At one point, she stands there, grabs all of her braids with her bare hands and is twisting them around and tying them up into a bit of a ponytail like style, perhaps to get them off her back a bit. After she finishes styling her hair, she immediately reaches into a box with her bare hands and grabs two latex gloves which she then puts on so that she can start fixing orders too. There is so much wrong with that picture that I don't even know where to begin!!! ::facepalm:: That this girl doesn't understand that she cannot groom herself, touch her hair or skin, and then fail to wash her hands before touching food to be consumed by other people (without being cooked or heated to kill germs) is unacceptable! She has to have clean hands BEFORE she touches the gloves she will be wearing to touch that food! Her putting on gloves is absolutely no protection for the consumer if her hands were dirty when she touched the outside of the gloves themselves! The outside of the gloves contaminated with her own hair and skin is exactly what is going to come into contact with all the food and drinks she makes! I brought this to the attention of the lady working the register, who immediately understood my concern and pulled the girl aside to speak with her privately. That said, I never saw the girl dispose of the dirty gloves, wash her hands, or re-glove. So I would strongly encourage this business to get on top of their staff's food handling practices and offer them supplemental training stat! read more

The juice here is ok but it's always strange to see the workers look down almost every time I walk in. I've asked about their working conditions bur most are polite and keep to themselves. I would love to see a friendly working environment for staff as they are the people often making the drinks. Apparently drinks are made off site but labels are often missing and it's hard to know what's what when looking at the shelf. Overall juices are ok and seem to be made with real fruit. It's just always a very weird feeling ingesting food from places where people are treated poorly. read more

I am thrilled to see a healthy fast casual option as I wish DC had hundreds more places Iike this with juices, bowls, and some lunch options. The space is beautiful and the staff were nice. The menu felt a bit chaotic but the nice worker pointed out to me that they have acai bowls so I ordered one of those: and The acai bowl I got was mediocre; the granola doesn't taste homemade or if it is it's bland. The Service wasn't good my wife and I walked in the lady server was on her phone sitting down didn't greet us or acknowledge us, she told us let me know when you ready we felt rushed. She was talking on the phone while talking to us as well then our smoothies wasn't made right there where chunks of fruit at the bottom of our smoothies just wasnt the best at all wouldn't recommend going if that women is there working. read more

I went to the Turning Natural store in Takoma Park today (9/6/23) at around 11 am as I wanted to order 2 green juices. I arrived, walked up to the counter and spoke with the man at the cash register counter about my order of 2 juices. He then said that he just received a shipment and then walked away from me and proceeded to put away the shipment. He didn't give me a time estimate of how long he would take or anything. I just walked out and the man didn't say anything to me as I walked out. It was like they didn't want my business. There was another couple in there who looked like they were going to order but walked out as well. I then went to Nips Juice House on Cameron St in Silver Spring which is just a few minutes away and they made my juices in just a few minutes and gave me great customer service. I don't recommend Turning Natural and I won't go back. The customer service or management needs to improve. read more
