Continuing my America 250 representing a restaurant starting in New Jersey in Playa Bowls, which started on the Jersey shore in 2014. I first tried Playa Bowls in Burtonsville, MD in March 2025 and loved it. I visited their College Park location speaking of America 250 on July 4, 2026. I combined this with a $2.50 individual cheese pizza deal at Ledo in honor of 250 that day only, which was a block away from here. Playa Bowls had a 250 bonus points promotion going on that 4th of July weekend. Staff at the College Park location was very friendly, at least on par with my experiences at Burtonsville. I always never know what I'm getting whenever I go. I remembered to look at their seasonal specialty bowls, but neither terribly appealed to me. I ended up going with Coco Berry bowl, which came with strawberries, blueberries, a yogurt base, coconut, banana, & blueberry flax granola. This was delicious! I came here twice within two days and both times they didn't disappoint! The only issue I noticed is that some of the blueberries didn't feel as fresh as they could have. Some were squishy/smushed so they felt a bit old. Other than that, the quality and quantity were both great at this location. I found out there were multiple bases that they use per bowl and they allowed me to sample one of each. I thought this was GREAT for business. I ended up ordering the Tide-Banana Bowl. The fruit is definitely FRESH! The Gronola bar is good as well. I couldn't seem to get past the entire combination of mixed foods together in the banana base. My go-to 'fruit smoothie bowls' eatery has been Pure Raw Juice- however I discovered Playa Bowls from a Facebook promo offering BOGO & figured why not try somewhere new. The Pros: They offer a huge variety of pre-created bowl combinations beyond their competitors. There are way more ingredients to select from between the bases and toppings. I also really appreciate how easy they make it to customize a bowl beyond the pre-created selection (i.e I was able to easily request combining base flavors, selecting add-ons, and swapping out ingredients). This made it so much easier to select & enjoy my unique bowl. All the ingredients were fresh: juicy fruit, crispy granola, crunchy toppings. And everything was made right when I ordered to make it even fresher! The Cons: At $11 a bowl, the overall product was smaller than I expected. Not many place let you do that and it's perfect for anyone indecisive! My issue was their service which knocked them down to three stars. 10/29/22 I was upsettt when I saw them taking the place they used to be at down, but never knew they just switched locations! They moved to the side where target is next to the papa johns. My bowl was good the only thing was there wasn't much flavor in the acai and it was lowkey stiff. I asked for the nutella bowl and replaced the coconut flakes with chia seeds, and i also added honey on top. The nutella bowl was just a acai bowl because it barely had any nutella, im not sure if it was because they had almost to no nutella but it would be good to be informed about it. This was a delightful little find. Just off the campus of University of Maryland right on route one is Playa Bowls. They have an energetic and friendly staff that builds your nutritious and delicious fruit bowl while you wait. The menu has such variety that it will take a long time to explore. Add in the fact that the two that I got were so good that I would want them again and exploration is going to take even longer. Do yourself a favor and indulge your sweet tooth while still eating nutritious. The only downside is the lack of parking which is always a problem in College Park. read more

According to the menu all of the smoothies and bowls are made with fruit, veggies, milk, etc. This makes me extremely happy because I know im eating healthy food which is worth the price. Speaking of prices Playa Bowls prices seem pretty similar to one of my favorite smoothie chains, South Block so it is not unreasonable. A little pricey for daily use but a nice treat after a week of classes. My friends and I tried an custom açaí bowl, the matcha smoothie, and the dawn juice. Açaí bowl: The açaí bowl we made came with coconut flakes, blueberries and granola. The açaí base was really good, one of the best açaí bowls I've had. The blueberries were sweet and not frozen. Matcha smoothie: The smoothie was very overpriced, with a small size that was over $7. The smoothie was not sweet and not flavorful. Dawn juice: Very fresh. The juice tasted like it was freshly squeezed and very flavorful. Oh my! This is by far the best ACAI bowl I've had in the area. Everything was good and fresh. I ordered the Tropical Acai and you couldn't tell me they didn't have those pineapples shipped from Hawaii. It was so good and plentiful I can't wait to go back. I drove about 30 minutes to get to this location and I will gladly make the drive again. My only wish is that they open more locations maybe in the Bowie/Upper Marlboro area. I have been coming to this place for yearssss since they've opened and I love it! Me and my friend used to come religiously every week it's so good!!! But lately the quality is running down. The last two times I've been I had a bad experience. First they served me old soggy fruit on top of my bowl the strawberries were literally inedible. The next time I went a few days ago I get the same thing I always do a half and half bowl and the pitaya was literally juice!!! The mango side was frozen but the other part was just melted as soon as I got it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I sat outside to eat right by the shop so there was no way it melted that fast. The serving is also HUGE so it's definitely worth the money. I had the Nutelloco but did a half açaí, half coconut base.
