Came here on a Saturday night, when there was a football game on. Needless to say it was very full and LOUD. Usually I'd prefer something quieter but I was visiting a friend and anywhere we would go would be loud because it was simply a busy night in the city due to the game. I'm originally from Miami and grew up with many Jamaicans. I've also visited Jamaica many times. No, nothing can compare to the Jerk Center in Ocho Rios with their fresh off the BBQ grill chicken. However, this place is good, very good. I was a bit afraid to try as we were worried about recipe adjustments for an English palate. We were not disappointed. The spicy beef patties, made locally (the Brits make amazing pastry) were spicy and delicious. I often say you can judge a restaurant by their side dishes. If they take their time there, then the main dishes must be good. This was true here. The plantains were ripe and sweet. The coconut rice and peas was yummy, but missing peas. The tender jerk chicken was properly cooked over charcoal and the sauce was perfect. It's late 2-for-1 happy hour from 9:30 - midnight! They also make their own ginger beer. Bronwyn is a delightful waitress. Definitely recommend. read more

We were down in Southampton for work and were looking for somewhere that served good food after a very long day and walked into turtle bay ! This place is fab, we walked in and the decor was great ! Very light and airy with a central bar and a big open kitchen. The food was amazing ! I had the Trinidad curry chicken which was beautiful. It came with rice and beans and some flat bread. My colleague had the Jamaican browned chicken which he thought was cooked to perfection! I can't even begin to explain how great the food was ! You also get a host of sauces on the table (hot sauces, Jamaican jerk and BBQ) which go with the food perfectly. The cocktail menu was also never ending and it conveniently just so happened to be happy hour during the time we were there ! The best news about this place is that it is opening in manchester over the next few weeks ! Definitely worth a trip ! read more

Love this place, food is amazing always so much flavour and spicy, always buzzing and very noisy but good, waitresses are always good, and the bargain is the drinks 2 for 1 on cocktails, the only problem is that when you have had about 10 or so cocktails they tend to use less alcohol because the first and last tasted very different. I would rater higher if I could. The restaurant is perfectly adequate and the cooks/chefs seem to be quite talented. The atmosphere is quite casual and relaxed, and the owners seem to be trying to achieve an island feel to the place. I ordered a steak. The cut wasn't of the highest quality, but sometimes it isn't the quality of the meat but how you work with it makes the difference. If you're a shit cook you can ruin a filet mingion. These cooks knew what they were doing. The steak was tender, well cooked to my specifications (medium rare) and it has the right amount of seasoning and spices. The accompanying fries were also good, having a bit of a spicy kick to them. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere and decent food. 5 Star dining it isn't, but for what it's trying to achieve it's pretty good. read more

I came here with a large group to celebrate my last day in Southampton and had a wonderful evening! In first year, we used to come here for their 2-for-1 cocktails during happy hour (they both need to be the same cocktail) but we had never tried their food. The food is incredibly flavourful and a little spicy so the sweet cocktails paired nicely! A few of my friends normally aren't too keen on spice but they were all happy with their meals. There were a few vegetarians in the group and there are only about 2 mains that are meat-free, but there are many vegetarian starters and sides so those could be combined (and it worked well!) We were looking to shelter from some rain, and what better place than a Caribbean bar restaurant? We weren't thinking of staying long but after 3 cocktails and a 3 starters each that plan was slightly skewed. The staff was friendly and professional. we found the deal 2-4-1 on the cocktails quite good, however.. I got the distinct feeling that the sizes were a little small. My mojito was finished in 3 sips. No kidding. 3 large sips through the straw and all I had left was crushed ice and mint. The 'zombie' cocktails fared better, but that is disappointing. The roti we ordered wasn't what I was used to. It looked more like a layer cake. It tasted all right. The chicken wings and ribs were very good, smoky and charcoal flavoured. Good food, presented well. Service was super friendly and the cocktail waiter was a star, mixing up an off-menu Caiprinha for The Duchess. The goat curry is excellent, and pretty spicy, and the plantain was a deliciously sweet side. I'll be back for breakfast. read more

My first time in a Caribbean restaurant it was delicious. Prices are average but you don't have to much food. It is really spicy (more than I thought)- I tried to eat without my fingers but try yourselves and you'll see. Hopefully their toilets are massive to wash your hands. Have been visiting for sometime, it's in a great location and a great concept and used to be really good but on the last two occasions it hasn't been the best. 2-4-1 on cocktails was a great deal but standards seem to be slipping. If you look at the bartender finger nails, they are grubby and they handle the ice and then money. They aren't professional cocktail makers it's all a bit slap dash and is a numbers game, they always ask you to sent up a tab with a credit card. Expect to have to queue and some bartenders are better than others at getting your attention. I have to remind one of the bartenders how to garnish the cocktail. It's small things cutting corners to save money. I also get the feeling the alcohol content had been reduced in the cocktails after five we weren't even merry! The toilet situation is just weird men and women have boxes next to each one another with shared hand washing facilities. It's not right! The food is pretty good and it's a nice place to go with friends but it's not like it used to be. read more

I have been here twice, once for drinks with friends, once on a (pretty awful) date and I must say Turtle Bay did not disappoint. Although the prices may seem a little high, the quality is excellent. The cocktails are fresh, delicious and often on offer. This fish curry I had was punchy, exotic and the portion size was great. Thoroughly recommend this as either a good restaurant or as a cocktail bar, it manages to be both well. read more

Great location, nice style and the food is tasty. However the portions are quite small (very un-west Indian) and consequently too pricey. The staff are very friendly and polite, but the service is the slowest I've ever experienced. Also I spent a lot of time batting fruit flys away, unfortunately they would not accept they were not Mosquitos from outside. This issue was still there on a subsequent visit months later, therefore I was not very surprised when they emptied bins by dragging through the Resturant and out the front door!?!
