Even though our trip was cut short due to weather, we had a great time. We saw several dolphin and some played very close by and swam in the wake of the boat. We also saw half a dozen manatees. The captain and first mate were friendly, courteous, and funny. I especially appreciate their commitment to safety by getting us off the water before the deluge. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I would say Turtle Mound River Tours is worth checking out if you're looking for a laid-back boat ride. It was a little challenging to book - I wasn't able to do it online and I had to call. We showed up for the tour and I was surprised that it was a pontoon boat. Again, I think maybe my expectations were a little lofty. The staff was perfectly friendly and the other passengers were also very nice. My father in law made some new friends! We picked the wine and cheese tour and they served a few different kinds of wine along with light snacks. I would suggest bringing your own wine if you have something specific that you enjoy. My mother in law really only drinks Chardonnay and they didn't have any available. The wines we tried were decent, but I wish I brought my own bottle...which you are allowed to do! The scenery can't be beat and we saw a few interesting birds and some dolphins. It was $35 well spent. read more

I had called in February to make a reservation for a group of 5 for the Family Fun Fishing Tour. This morning I got a reminder email confirming our reservation for today. We arrived 20 minutes early as instructed, and waited until the time we were supposed to leave before I finally called the number in the email to figure out why no one was there. An extremely rude employee answered the phone and immediately tried to play dumb, saying I had no reservation, before she even looked me up. Once she saw it was the fishing tour, she said it was that captain and he left so to call him because it's his problem now basically. I called him, he said he left in February and doesn't do that anymore. He was apologetic and felt bad but there wasn't much he could do at that point. I called the company back, and they kept trying to brush me off and saying that she spoke to her boss and they said the down payment had been put in his account and not theirs and basically trying to put the blame on anyone but them. The lady kept saying "I'm just an employee" yet she somehow didn't know how to do her job. She kept saying "my boss this, my boss that" so I finally asked to speak to her boss. Her boss was just as knowledgeable as she was and there was literally a man in the background who sounded half scared telling her what to say to me. She said they no longer offer the fishing tour and that it was all through the captain and not them. I said that I called the number on their website and all of the emails came from Turtle Mound River Tours. The lady literally kept arguing with me saying it wasn't anything to do with them when I literally went through their company. They finally refunded us and reassured me that it came from the captains account, literally trying to wash their hands of everything when it was literally all their fault. Highly would NOT recommend, the people are rude and they do NOT know how to run a business. read more

This was a fantastic boat trip! Out Captain Rodney was very funny and informative! He knew a lot about the waterway, animals, local history, and more. We saw tons of dolphins-- including a mother with her baby. We also saw a few manatees, they are huge! Birds everywhere! Absolutely gorgeous... this is a must do while in New Smyrna! Do not go if you have to travel a distance. We booked a public boat tour and were delayed by heavy traffic in the Orlando area. Called to ask for them to wait for us, we would be 15 minutes late but they declined. They kept over $60 of our money for doing nothing and won't return it. What a waste of time and money. The only public tours are at 11am so If you stay more than an hour away then i would find a different tour. Book this at your own risk. read more

Bought Turtle Mound River Tours through Groupon and made an online reservation on the tours website for my husband and I the night before the tour without any difficulties. Captain Bill and his first mate Brandon did a great job finding manatees and dolphin for us to look at. They were very personable and knowledgable about the area's history as well as the wildlife. At the end we had two dolphin swimming in our wake and jumping out of the water every now and again! It was fantastic! You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks including alcohol which is nice. They do provide water if you don't bring anything. We took the private tour and it was nothing short of spectacular! Our hosts were professional, fun, enlightening, and entertaining. We watched a several dolphin shows, and viewed a bald eagle and a baby eagle. The weather was not manatee friendly when we went out so we didn't get see any but we were told where to look during warmer weather. I drove 45 minutes with my family after reserving a trip online over a month in advance. Got there right at 11 because the website said daily from 11 to 1, only to discover that they departed early! They had been gone at least 10 minutes judging from where the boat was....needless to say my kids were upset, it was supposed to be a family first for us, and we paid the money and drove all the way there and wasted the gas to get there and 45 minutes back to our location just to be disappointed. I attempted to contact the people to see if I could get a refund or some sort of resolution or at least an apology, and received nothing. They won't even respond to my voicemails. First of all I bought a 2 hour tour. We started out and within 10 minutes got stuck on a sand barge for about a half hour. 4 fishermen came along in a boat and along with the captain help us get out of the sand barge. We continue on our tour which was okay then he turned around and headed back we got back to the dock at 1:45. I was very disappointed because the tour said 2 hours,with being stuck in the barge and getting back early it was not a 2-hour tour. Not what they advertised. I think the captain was upset and just wanted to get back to the dock. Not a good way to run a business. Would not go back again nor recommend the tour. read more
