The rudest shop owner I have ever encountered. Approached my daughter and took things from her when I told him I was buying the items he didn't hand them back. A shame to treat any customer like that. I will never shop here again. You should be embarrassed to treat a woman and a child that way. read more

We've been going to Sanibel for 20 years and it always includes Tuttle's Sea Shell Shop We've developed a kinship with Mr. Tuttle and look forward to seeing him again soon. We even have pictures with him as this is a part of our trip. Mr. Tuttle is nothing but kind and generous. If he told one not to touch something I'm sure it was for more of a safety issue. There are things hanging from the ceiling and propped up on shelves. And as far as the cost, this is a small business and doesn't have mass quantities so the price will be a little more in price. I like to support small businesses and don't mind paying a little extra to keep him in business. Mr. Tuttle we hope you and your business have survived the Hurricane and hope to visit again soon! read more

Charming shop owner Bob loves to chat and help customers. He's one of the early "settlers" on Sanibel Island -- friendly and knowledgable. read more

I am surprised this little shop, just next door to the Lighthouse Cafe, doesn't have any reviews! Our wait for breakfast led me in here...apparently the store has been on the island for about 32 years. It has the typical touristy souvenirs that I love...nothing that I needed but things I loved to look at. There were a few bags of prepackaged shells that my Dad picked up and said "I'll just buy these and save us the trip to the beach!" If I'd known we wouldn't get to the beach until high tide, I might have taken him up on this. Tuttle's is located on the lighthouse end of the island...it seems less traffic-y than some of the main parts of town and so I think it would be worth a drive to stop in. If I had more people on my list that wanted a Sanibel gift, this is a great place! read more

Customer service is horrible. The man behind the counter is unwelcoming and extremely rude. Place is cluttered and full of cheap junk. Don't waste your time or money in this place! If I could give this store a ZERO, I would! Sanibel and Captiva have some great gift shops and this is not one of them! read more

I've been going into this shop since 1990 and have always been treated great by the owner and his wife. We have been in multiple times this trip and found some truly fantastic gifts. I was browsing around while on vacation. Initially, I just noticed the same merchandise triple the prices of the other tourist stores on the island. Not that that would be a plausible reason for a 1 star rating, but the owner/employee was rude and uninviting. Save your money by going to a different shop and get better costumer service as well. If I could give it zero stars I most definitely would. This mans attitude is unbelievably impolite. read more

Took my kids in with me to see about getting souvenirs for them. My 3 year old picked something up to take a look at it and the last working here took it out of his hand and told him, " Don't play with that." With all the other options here on the island, we will gladly take our business somewhere that's actually friendly. read more

Just left the store and will never return. If you have children, be cautious going there. Mr Tuttle yelled at both my grandchildren. When each child in separate incidences attempted to show their mother something to buy, a trinket in one case and a book he yelled at the children. They were very well behaved. When I asked that he not yell at a 4 year old and 9 year old, he told me we don't need you in here either. He seems to have a problem with children or perhaps an anger management issue. My daughter and I are both doctors and the children are well behaved. We had five adults with the two children in this tiny store. Since the store is close to the Pinocchio' Ice Cream I suspect many parents do as we did go over to shop after ice cream. Be cautious if you have children. The store is mainly overpriced trinkets from China. One star only,as it is the lowest I could give. read more

Echo of previous reviews this week - extremely rude staff. Felt unwelcome browsing with my 3 small kids, none of whom were out of line or grabbing at any of the merchandise. When we checked out to purchase a few items, cashier did not speak a word. Grabbed my credit card and pointed to the back where it says "See ID" - presumably asking us to show an ID for the purchase. I suppose customers aren't worthy of accessing a few courteous words during a transaction, trying to spend money in this shop. My suggestion... Take the advice of other reviewers and spend your $s elsewhere. Or just walk around the courtyard to enjoy the exotic birds. I doubt the owner of this store bothers to read Yelp but maybe some of their friends do. If so, you may want to inform him of the reputation they are building online. And this being the offseason, next year's influx of tourists are sure to be dissuaded by the mounting volume of negative reviews. read more

The owner "Bob" has got to be the rudest person I have met on Sanibel. Our family has visited Sanibel every other year for the past 8 years. We always stop here to check out the shells and such that my 3 kids are always interested in. This past Spring we stopped in and the kids picked out a few trinkets. As we were ready to check out, "Bob" noticed my 8 year old daughter in an area for $100 and up as he called it. He told her to move away from that area because all the items were too expensive for her. I let "Bob" know that his rudeness had just cost him not only the purchase that we had for today but any in the future from us and the rest of our family and friends. I would not suggest visiting this tiny cramped shop with a very rude owner. read more

Went there after having ice cream next door. Shop owner greeted my child and I with a disapproving glare. My four year old found the childrens books displayed by the front door interesting and picked one up. The shop owner then yelled at him to be careful with his books. What person displays children books at child level with display ones open and not expect them to pick them up and look at them? If Barnes and Noble yelled at all their customers for picking up books, they would be out of business and so should Tuttles. My son also picked up a soft alligator toy from a pile on the floor and showed it to the owner with a smile, but the owner just frowned at him. Who does that to a child who is enjoying his children's merchandise, which could possibly lead to a sale? But no way was I going to buy anything from this establishment that displays children's items at eye level but doesn't allow children to even test them out. I will not be shopping at any of the businees associated with the whole complex. read more
