The activities, like basketball, cornhole, yoga, kayaking, and beach time were refreshing in between thought-provoking classes and good meals. Therapist Joel- for ART and flexibility and creating a safe space for me to process and work through trauma and his positive expression about me as a person that is not what I've received in the past from some people in the military. They truly changed my life. The therapists are amazing, and everyone genuinely cares about you on a personal level. I came in voluntarily for the inpatient mental health program with one goal: to find hope again. By the end of my 30 days, I had not only found hope and an incredible sense of community, but I also discovered things about myself I didn't even know were there. Most importantly, I left loving myself more than ever before. The admissions process was very thorough and friendly. I never once felt judged, singled out, or as if anyone was indifferent. Instead, I felt cared for, accepted, and loved for who I am without judgment. The nursing staff was extremely helpful and supportive. They made sure I never missed my medications and were always attentive to my needs. The tech team was also incredibly friendly and helpful. I have a service dog, and they made sure both my dog and I were well taken care of. They were always willing to go the extra mile. The therapists and counselors were some of the best people I have ever met. They truly go out of their way to make sure you feel heard. There were times when I felt anxious and even wanted to leave, but they always helped me work through it and made things feel more manageable. They offer open hours every weekday morning for a full hour in case you need extra support, and even if your therapist is unavailable, they still make sure you are not sent away without help. Every morning there are also process groups that last about an hour and a half, where you can openly share what you're going through. This helped me feel supported and also allowed my therapist to better understand how to help me. The kitchen staff was very kind, and while some meals were better suited to my taste than others, they always offered alternative meal options and were very accommodating to individual needs. The nutritionist was also a great resource. One of the best parts of the experience was the people I met. Spending 24/7 with others who truly understand what you are going through creates bonds that feel like family. These are friendships I still maintain outside of treatment. I also completed IOP there, which helped make my transition from inpatient to outpatient care much easier and far less overwhelming. At first, it can be scary, but it truly gets better. There will always be good and bad days, but it works if you work it. I recommend that everyone seek for treatment regardless if you are that level or not, not leaving it until it's too late. read more

I've have been in treatment at 12 oaks twice, 2017& 2022 for OUD. I will have to say that my first experience was amazing. My second was really different. Although I received great care, and my treatment team was awesome, I thought that having mental health clients with those trying to get sober was not the best idea. I know that often times sud can cause mental health issues. But those that have only mental health issues often do not understand addiction and it did cause some confusion. read more

Loved my time there it really was great to see how far I have come since Rehab and Rehab was the start of all the new personal changes. The only complaint I have is the director of nursing, I guess, even though I signed a paper saying that I want them to implement my mother of every choice and every decision they still wouldn't give her any information whatsoever. Under staffed - if you're looking forward to something here (cell phone , mail , an outing) there may be an excuse why you can't get that . This program is a start to a new beginning. Some welcome a new vision on life, some stay content. At the end of the day, it's a higher power/motivation that leads to your vision. Do NOT send your loved ones here ever! Especially for mental health. They integrate mental health and addicts. They say they have a separate mental health track but that is false. My son has a newly diagnosed mental health condition needing treatment and was being bullied by another patient. There was an altercation and they called the police and sent my son to jail. The first call I received after 4 days there was from a case/risk manager telling me of the situation. After 4 days no call from a counselor or therapist. They said they needed to do discharge planning for him and that would be to get a hotel room when he is released from jail and they would drop off his things. This is a death sentence to anyone with mental health or addiction. I was out of the country at the time with no where to go with my son. Except a hotel room I guess which was impossible since they took his phone and wallet and didn't give him anything to take to jail with him so they put him out on the street one thousand miles away from home. And lastly don't believe the pictures. The place is run down and dirty and old. 12 jokes they call it and the joke is unfortunately on their residents which end up being their victims. read more

My son was referred here from the VA Substance Abuse Counselor out of Pensacola, Florida. Kimberly from 12 Oaks Admissions talked to my son, sent him emails of what to bring and she was very compassionate. She said he'd be with other Combat Disabled Veterans. He was so excited to finally get help. On December 3, 2021 he was scheduled to go in and the VA stopped it. My son needed immediate health care and the VA said no. I called and begged Kimberly to try to help my son. I begged and asked if I could pay my self' and offered $10,000 immediately. I would have made payments for the rest. Kimberly asked her CEO and said he said no as my son was in the VA system. My son committed suicide 5 days later. It's all about full payment and money at both 12 Oaks snd the VA. I've lost my son over uncaring people who believe money is more important than lives! read more

I checked myself into 12 oaks 12/07/23, the admin staff were great along with all the counselors and most of the techs. As far as my treatment goes it was great and so was my counselor dorotha I learned a lot about my alcohol addiction and ways to cope with it and stay sober. There was one nurse named Jules that was just mean always talking down to the patients and the other nurses she needs to be fired she creates a toxic atmosphere. The living conditions in the dorm were terrible and I am going to leave it at that otherwise i will be here all day talking about it. I would recommend the out patient treatment plan because you really do not want to be a resident there. I can not select a star rating because of some of the staff and the living conditions if there was a separate rating for admin and the counselors I would give them a five stars for the living conditions 0 stars, nursing staff 3 stars . plus all the techs were great except for one A older black man that dressed like a pimp and had a god complex always wore a red brim hat he made up his own rules. read more

So, I came to 12 Oaks in January of 2020. If you're looking for a short answer, it is what you make of it. I have seen lots of reviews of people not seeing their therapist. I was upfront and was assertive and adamant to regularly see my therapist and I saw multiple therapists multiple times a week. My therapist no longer works there, but she still does EMDR there as an independent contractor. I had a couple of EMDR sessions and they went very well. I was always in communication with my therapists and made absolutely sure to pin down the therapists at least 2-3 times a week. If you are adamant about what you want, you will be given what you ask for. I even got an emergency session while having a massive panic attack. Admittedly, some of the medical staff is pretty incompetent. They put me on medications in there that retrospectively, I did not need and caused me problems down the line. A friend of mine while I was in there was refused his insulin as he was a type 1 diabetic and as a result of this, was hospitalized twice. The doctor is hard to pin down and you'll have to rely on the nurses in the detox center. The nurses are very nice and will work with you. I'd recommend putting either a second doctor on payroll or having somebody that is available far more often. The off campus time for php patients is interesting. I saw many people smuggle drugs and other contraband in. The searching either needs to be done a lot better, or make the off campus time supervised. I personally took care of one man who had nearly died from freaking out and taking every over the counter drug under the sun and brought him back on my shoulder along with a couple other guys with me to make sure he didn't either die or run away. Other than that, the walmart was fun. The rooms are alright and the rewards for keeping a clean room actually motivated a dirty bastard like myself to make my bed every morning and to keep my room spotless. Also, I actually woke up early a lot so that I could get breakfast first;) The facilities are fine, nothing I didn't experience in college. People shit on the food here, but honestly I didn't think it was that bad. There's a teenie tiny gym and some other freeweights that are fun to use if you can pin down a tech to get them to unlock them. There certainly wasn't a dull moment there. If you are thinking about coming here, come in with a serious attitude. I'm coming up on 2 years clean after this place, but don't let the people not taking this place seriously sway you. I engaged in plenty of tomfoolery without getting loaded that was good and (mostly) wholesome fun! You never have to get loaded again. You definitely can, but you don't have to. Shoutouts to Crawford, Leslie, Dixie and Lorie for putting up with my BS, I can't thank you guys enough. You guys are amazing at your jobs and I hope you're still there. If I'm forgetting anybody, I apologize. And to the CEO, whatever your name is, you're a dick and noone likes you. Your employees are far more genuine than you. There is a lot of freedom here if you aren't serious about getting clean just trying to appease the court or your parents then this is the place for you. Plenty of people using and plenty of opportunity to skip. But if you are serious about getting better then its going to be very hard and you are going to have to look outside of the material they supply to make that happen. They dont give you a working schedule, half the clients have never seen the therapist and never will, the material is old , and sometimes no one shows up to teach the groups If you have trauma or mental health only this is NOT THE PLACE for you. Since i have ptsd I was really hoping to see EDMR light therapy I was told I would be put on the list and Guess What? Big suprise here it nevr happened. I attended ladies trauma which was a great group and allll but the groups are so huge it makes it very hard to b vunerable and work on your real shit the way the material is taught in most groups is a read along and answer questions back like how you would learn material in a elementary school setting. in my experience there compared to my last center they are not diving deeper into the deep reasons for a persons addiction While their they gave 3 people medications that they stated on their intake forms they were allergic to. 2 ended up in the hospital, one may have permanent damage. Also, they may put you on a medication and then take it away if you don't get certain things done, which for me they weren't straightfwd about what I needed to get done and kept telling me it was ordered which they weren't causing my medication to be taken away leading to 4 days of terrible withdrawls after i had already been thru detox. I got them back eventually but it was not fun or necessary. Another thing is they put me on a seizure medication that if not tapered off of properly then is can cause you to have a seizure well i had 2 more days to taper when I left so I asked them to give me the doses in my medications they said they would well its not in my bag and they didnt give me a script......WElll now I have to worry about having a GRand Mal Seizure when I have only ever had one other seizure in my whole life. This place pushes meds hard on everyone. O a anti depression medicine, anti-anxiety medicine, or even a bipolar medication to sleep..... O you feeling nervous how bout a Muscle relaxer, A blood pressure medicine, .....Ummm well how bout an anxiety medcine for my anxiety and a sleep medicine for u know Sleep or nothing. Idk I just feel like putting someone on a bipolar medicine that isnt bipolar is a bad idea specially in a situation where they might get misdiagnosed because of the effects that medicine could have on them. This place not only regularly calls the police on clients and threatens 2 even more. WHICH i feel like that could end up with a client getting in worse trouble. There are a few good staff members that honestly care about you but mostly your just another paycheck to them. The place is all about maximizing their profits the food is definetly cheaper than public school lunches. Please don't send your kid here if they have any kind of eating disorder I did not eat for 6 days and no one but other clients noticed. When I told staff they told me maybe I could get on the list for a night time pbj it never happened. They said to go meet with the Dietician wAited 3 hrs in the hall to find out the dietician wasnt there and was skipped the next day. they will They lie and lie and lie to your face the nurses will lie to you, the Head of Counseling will definitely lie straight to you. I learned not only have they had 5 people who attended their center relapse in the last year but also i met several clients that are their for their 3rd or 4th time. It breaks my heart because this place isnt doing what it needs to do to help people and actually in my experience did more to harm than help. read more

I was self admitted from an outside detox facility which I self referred to as well. I have been struggling with drinking and cocaine use for quite a few years and I learned so much from my month here and will be forever grateful for the knowledge and self insight gained from this facility. The staff are outstanding and I have nothing but love for them. The instructors and counselors are almost all coming at you with wisdom from their own struggles with addiction. I went to this place because they have a PTSD program geared towards Veterans and that group alone was worth the month long stay. If you are not serious about your recovery pplease do not go into that place distracting others who may be on the fence regarding their own recovery, it's not fair. I wish I would have committed to going to treatment years ago. Nothing but praises from me. Staff: 9/10 Food: 9/10 Schedule: 7/10 Cleanliness: 9/10 Counselors: 10/10 Lectures: 10/10 The reason for the 7 on schedule was because they changed the daily regimine schedule after my second week and even the staff was a bit confused but it didn't really effect the program as a whole, was just some confusion. Highly recommend thus place to those who are serious and sick of living in addiction. Anyone who is mature and open minded and willing to not fall into the "clique" mentality and just do their own program here I garuntee will be successful in their recovery. You will learn absolutely everything you need to be successful here. If you constantly missed or were late for lectures because you had to get more ciggerettes or candy at oak mart store or were always late to group because you were busy smoking or just chose not to participate... that is on you read more

If you're going for their so called "mental health" program and not for addiction, don't waste your time. Admissions straight up lied to me and told me they had a whole separate program for MH/trauma. They neglected to tell me this "separate program" was only maybe a couple groups per week at most and that it's BRAND NEW. They make everyone stay in detox the first several days, even if you're not coming for addiction. So you'll be forced to sit there while people around you are detoxing from some heavy shit. I was there 4 days and no one EVER did an orientation with me. No one showed me around, introduced me to therapists, told me rules, etc. They also told me they had programming for men and women and that some of the groups would be co-Ed... ALL of them are co-Ed except a couple each week. Oh, and they house men and women together. It's nearly impossible to sleep as after the bed check at 11pm, staff disappeared and people would get up and party all night. Constant talking about dr*gs. Their process for medication had 30 people waiting in a hallway for meds for over an hour as they'd only ever have 1 or 2 nurses there. They screwed up my medications more than once and refused to give me proper doses one night. The groups were a joke-- very little structure or expectations of the clients there. Next to no supervision or support from the staff. People would get up after signing in for groups, talk the whole time, come in and out constantly, and disrupt groups for everyone else. Someone smuggled drugs in while I was there. Also majority of the staff I encountered were so rude and unprofessional (example: one said they'd throw everyone's laundry in the trash, screamed during check in for everyone to shut the hell up, slammed the door in my face, refused to answer my questions about how to discharge)... I left AMA and they had me running all over campus for fill out paperwork. They'd ignore me knocking asking for help, wouldn't sign paperwork until a certain time so they could charge me for another day of treatment, and there was little to no communication or understanding between the different buildings. No one knew what was going on and just kept making me talk to different people. I was there several days before a therapist met with me. They made me answer the same admissions questions/intakes at least 4 times between admissions, nurses, psych, therapist, etc. which is not effective or helpful to make someone repeatedly tell their history and trauma. Overall my experience was traumatizing and a complete waste of my time, money, and energy. The only person who even remotely tried to talk to me or help me was their clinical director, Dixie. She genuinely cared why the program wasn't working for me and wanted to try to better the admissions processes, as well as making sure the programs are being more accurately advertised. Don't even bother coming here unless you have addiction issues/need rehab. I'm not sure I'd even recommend their rehab program honestly. This is NOT a mental health program and staff does NOT monitor you or offer much structure or support. They just want your money and don't actually care about meeting your needs. read more

I see things haven't changed since 2002. The youth were having sex with adults in the cabins at night. It happened in mine. Nothing happened. I couldn't eat the food and lost close to 30-pounds. Twelve Oaks saved my life! From the moment I stepped in the door, I felt a sense of relief. Everyone on the staff is dedicated to your recovery. Twelve Oaks is located directly on the beach and one of the optional activities is going for sunrise beach runs, which is a great form of therapy. While I was there, of course the focus is on recovery, but there were fun activities that relate to each holiday as well as the Alumni visit for Christmas with gifts. The food was spectacular, in my opinion. I loved the salad bar. The dorms were spacious and comfortable. Not only did I gain sobriety, I gained SO many sober friends for life! read more

I am currently a patient here. I came here because they advertised trauma therapy for veterans. I have not even met with a counselor or therapist for 1:1 treatment after being here already 15 days. The current veteran counselor is unlicensed and never served a day in the military. She needs more therapy than any one here. Based on current number of veterans here inpatient they are making appx 1.2 million per month on us and we are given absolutely zero therapy- except if you count swimming and Kayaking time that is allowed one hour once a week. Veterans DO NOT come here to get help with your PTSD. There is none to be found. read more

Hoping the right person reads this. I would like to remain anonymous but I am pretty sure from my story Twelve Oaks will know who I am. I AMA'd your facility December 17th 2022. First let me say that I was molested as a teenager three separate times by three separate individuals which has caused me significant trauma. On top of events that transpired in the military I use alcohol to cope with and suppress these memories. When I do not drink as I informed staff I have vivid dreams, night terrors, and sleep paralysis which is the worst. My last two nights at this facility were terrible. Thursday night I had a dream of a man being on top of me and I could not move nor talk. In the past my wife would notice me mumbling and shaking and wake me up. Not having anyone there I attempted to shake myself awake hitting my head on the bedpost. The military prescribes me Prazosin to suppress these nightmares as physiatrist have suggested I do until I deal with my trauma through therapy. I was informed Friday morning that I would be receiving Prazosin during nighttime meds as I told a staff member of my events. I waited in the very long med line only to be informed they no longer carry Prazosin as it is "too expensive." I returned to detox where the nurse informed me it was on order but may take time. I informed her I had some at home and she said to go to clinical in the morning after breakfast and request to call and have someone bring it or go get it with someone and they would test me upon return. I had more night terrors Friday night even staying awake for fear of sleeping. I was pretty much going off of five hours of sleep in two days Saturday morning and went to clinical as I did not want to take the chance the facility would not receive my meds. The counselor in clinical informed me she could not facilitate a phone call for me without even asking my reasoning. I returned to detox to complain and ask my options to the detox tech Teri, who was extremely helpful and caring the entire time I was there. In my frustration I said "I will just ATA, I don't care" and at that point a nurse, not even in the conversation where I was explained to Teri how I could not sleep and having nightmares, snaps at me "Don't threaten them with an ATA and you can go if you want to go, I don't care." She said this with extreme animosity. Other black patients had said she had been rude to them as well but this was my first experience. That is neither here nor there. I returned to clinical to ask for ATA paperwork. She gave me A Request for Release from Voluntary Admission form and said fill it out and bring it back in an hour. She never asked my reasoning to ATA. I returned in an hour only to be informed by two counselors I couldn't leave for 24 hours.????? I asked why and they said my counselor must be there. They still never asked my reasoning to leave as if I just had been given a phone call to have someone bring me my medication, I had no problem staying. This is not a jail; I do not know why I was told multiple times by them I could not leave the premises. This was illegal and the sheriffs informed me of that later on as I was voluntarily there. Finally, a little while later a pleasant and concerned nurse after hearing my story helped me to AMA. Teri who was amazing and concerned was also there to help and was one of the only people concerned with why I was leaving. The sheriff also informed me that it was illegal to keep all of my identification, credit cards, and debit card in a safe as he had seen this problem before and your facility should not have individuals signing paperwork while under the influence that says we cannot get these items on the weekend. I contacted multiple Techs I know at different facilities who had never heard of such a thing and someone should always be on site with a key to the safe for emergency departures. My stay at your facility was horrible. There is no accountability. The VA requires us to attend a certain number of groups and meeting a day yet I witnessed countless individuals not adhere or just sleep through these events with no repercussions. I have been at five different facilities while trying to overcome my trauma yet yours is the only one I have not completed twice now. Never had a facility not have Prazosin and if they did not have a medication, I was shown concern and the best efforts were made to get it. I have never been at a facility where you do not have to attend groups and meetings because if you didn't or refused you were removed because those facilities were about recovery and not your insurance check. I can promise you I will stop at nothing to take this to the highest level of the VA as I can until my voice is heard as we are being given a disservice as veterans as well as the rest of your clientele, court ordered or not. The care I received was outstanding and the staff were so helpful. I met many life long friends that helped encourage me to stay clean and sober. Absolutely a filthy undertrained establishment. The only thing you will get is a 21 day detox and drugs if you want them. The website is outdated and false advertises what they have to offer. No one is disciplined for their actions. ie: sex, drugs, chaos, talking back, techs on different rules and the contraband room that houses your clothes and gear can easily be entered. After being lured in by their webstie and smooth talking telephone staff, I sent my 17 year old daughter from our home in Massachusetts to 12 Oaks in Florida. As my insurance would not cover the cost of the treatment, I was offered "a cash discount" and charged $6000 to my credit card towards their "reduced cost" of $8000 for the first thirty days of treatment. My daughter had been in a rehab center a few months prior and was discharged due to a behavioral issue. In my conversations with 12 Oaks, I told them of this and asked how they would handle this as I didn't want her to get thrown out thousands of miles from home. I was assured over and over that their professional staff is trained to handle any situation and not to worry. In accordance with the terms of their "reduced cost", the daily rate is lower; however, if you leave before the minimum of 30 days the daily rate MORE THAN DOUBLES. Of course I agreed to these terms as I was sure I was not going to bring her back home before 30 days. I booked an expensive one way flight to Florida and placed my child on a plane to Florida; it broke my heart (and bank account) but all I wanted was the help my daughter so desperately needed. Nine days later about 10:00 at night I received a call from 12 Oaks informing me that my daughter MUST LEAVE their facility immediately! YES, 10:00 at night, thousands of miles away, my very sick daughter was being discharged for an altercation with a male patient. After DEMANDING and threatening to call the authorites in Florida, i was finally allowed to speak on the phone with her to try to find out the story. Apparently, a male patient had been verbally tormenting my daughter daily and constantly since her arrival. She states the staff witnessed the abuse and did nothing to protect her. Finally, the tormenting was too much and an altercation ensued. According to her, staff witnessed the fight and after it was broken up, SEVERAL members of the STAFF high fived her!! YES, high fived her! The short time she was there, she received NO private care or counseling-she saw a physician one time that I am aware of. Medication was prescribed but NEVER received. I did not receive one phone call from the staff regarding her care or progress. I am still in the process of trying to get my money back. I have paid $5,000 for her to stay in this "treament center" for nine short, abusive, useless days. Please DO NOT send your loved one here--they are truly only out for the money and have no concern for the treatment of these desperate sick children. read more

Anyone not pleased with this place is merely refusing to take responsibility for themselves. If someone is in a drug treatment facility, yet complain about the food, well, I don't think I need to explain further. Any recovery center is what YOU make it. And these people gave me and many others the tools and support to change our lives for the better. I was a patient there in 2010. I received help with my PTSD as well as with addiction recovery. What I learned at 12 oaks is still with me every day, as I share what I've learned with other fellow veterans and suffering addicts. Please keep in mind when reading reviews for ANY treatment center that success rate of recovery in general is below 50%. This place helped save my life. I spent 30 days here in 2012 and am grateful to still be sober. I have many people that I met in recovery at Twelve Oaks and keep in contact with who are on the same path. Someone mentioned "strict rules"...ummm yes this isn't the Ritz in the South of France its a treatment center. There are 2 different mind sets at play here. This is a medical facility but it is also a business. I never had issues with either. The business side worked with me on a payment plan. The people actually working on the medical side (counselors, nurses etc) were also great. Many people who work here are also active in recovery so they can relate to what patients are going through. With over 3 years of continued success I can say that Twelve Oaks helped save my life. read more

They lied to me about the out of pocket estimate initially, and even worse, lied to me by stating that they had spoken to my wife and that she said we had sufficient funds to cover the uninsured amount after I had been in there 3 days. They refused to allow me to call her right then and there for clarification. They lied about having a small supply store to purchase things like shampoo etc - it had been closed 4 months prior, but their website and literature said It was there for your convenience. The reason it was closed down was because they were cited by the State of Florida for selling cigarettes without the proper licensing for taxation and regulation. Once again, they lied to my wife and said if she transferred money to Walmart they would take me to walmart that day to buy the things I needed (shampoo etc). In practice they no longer take people to Walmart - they only take people to Dollar General now, so my money just sat at Walmart's money center, and I had no access to it to purchase anything. They take all your cash from you during intake, and lock it up. They lied in their literature stating they had a specific chronic pain management support tract to help people in chronic pain learn to deal with pain without narcotics. (Their literature calls it The Resilience Group) That was one of the primary reasons I chose the facility, but the pain management tract had been discontinued 9 months prior. I had weaned myself off of prescription narcotics and changed my Pain Management Doctor 2 years prior, so I was not in opiate withdrawal, but I did want to develop skills and techniques for reducing pain without any drugs or facet joint steroid injections. The food was mediocre at best. If you go to their Facebook page and look at their food service director you will see that she is morbidly obese, and the meal plans reflect it. Also, incredibly, they let the men eat first, and then the women and then people in Detox. Prior to going to 12 Jokes, during the telephone consultations and phone intake questions, I asked specifically if I should get a Flu shot and Pneumonia vaccination prior to coming (I am in a high risk group for both, COPD), they said it was not necessary, they assured me they would give both upon arrival. I was concerned with being in a place with 100 other people during flu season. Guess what..? That was another one of their "I don't know who told you that but we don't ever do that". They are severely understaffed, and the day-to-day techs make a little more than McDonalds but less than Walmart (Their Techs actually do tell you the truth) If you want unprotected sexual encounters with HIV+ and HEP C+ patients, this is the right place for you - they do nothing to prevent pairing off between patients and public displays of affection, even though the Behavior Expectations Guide tells you to keep a ten-foot distance between members of the opposite sex. 3 female patients climbed over the fences and barriers in the 5 days I was there because of unpleasant physical/emotional experiences with male patients (Not forcible contact, but terrible emotional trauma during a vulnerable time in their life). They won't let men and women be served meals together, but they will let other things happen with impunity. The toilets were backing up on days 2 and 3 of my stay and it wasn't until the 4th day that RotoRooter was there, and they were closing various bathrooms and advising patients to NOT flush more than once every 30 minutes. I decided I would stay 5 days detoxing for alcohol, and on the last day after being cleared by their Nurse practitioner (They do not have an MD at the facility) I demanded a meeting with the head counselor, the financial representative, and the CEO on Friday afternoon. I confronted them about all of the above. I self-discharged AMA 2 hours later. I'm hitting my AA meetings and Celebrate Recovery instead of spending the next 25 days there. I am sober now, and will stay that way, but not because of their facility. About 5 years ago this facility was the preferred referral treatment center for the Employee Assistance Program at the largest shipbuilding company in the world. I self-referred myself there, and there was not a single person other than myself from that company. This place has obviously deteriorated to the point where they won't send their people there anymore. I would recommend anyone needing treatment look elsewhere. They also have a tendency to "Baker Act" many of the people coming in in their first day or two of treatment. That is when the treatment facility kicks the new arrival out, the sheriff comes in, and they are placed in solitary confinement in the local hospital for up to 72 hours. During that time they are not treated for withdrawal or given fluids - they are placed on suicide watch - please check reviews on multiple review sites about this place and you will see several instances of this happening. read more

The staff at 12 Oaks especially in the Proclaim Christian program were caring, compassionate, and talented clinically. They treated my step son with great care, He had not had this experience at other long term programs. The EMDR and trauma counseling given my adopted son was excellent. He renewed his commitment to the Lord in the Proclaim program as well Lawann is an amazing counselor. My son is on track for transitional care in Vero area. Finally I was most impressed with there approach to care as a continuum of care Detox, treatment, transitional and coaching/alum. I am grateful for all their work with Ben. read more

I was recently a patient at 12 oaks in Navarre, Florida. It is a 12 step program which can be found at nearly every treatment facility. The campus is filthy. The nursing and medical staff incompetent. They are incredibly understaffed. Your stay is based solely on what your insurance pays and not on any medical or psychological criteria. The web site is very outdated. The detox unit ( where the most critical patients are housed) is dangerously understaffed. The food that is suppose to support a nutritious recovery is barely edible. Most of the tech staff there to insure patient safety are undertrained. I saw fights break out, drugs smuggled in and sexual escapades on a daily basis. I most definitely DO NOT recommend this facility. read more

I cannot express how much I DO NOT recommend this facility! I was looking for treatment for my sister and made the mistake of calling Twelve Oaks. I spoke to a woman, Carla, and explained my family's situation. My sister has addiction problems complicated by pain management issues. Searching for a facility that can deal with both issues is what lead me to Twelve Oaks in the first place. The facility is listed on pain management and addiction web sites and I was told my numerous people, including Carla, that Twelve Oaks provided pain management therapy as well as drug addiction therapy. This was a flat out LIE. Apparently they will say anything to get you to send your family member there in order to get your money. I was called almost every day after first speaking to someone there, and they would ask me how my situation was coming along. I thought this meant they genuinely cared, but it was obviously another sales tactic. Once she was there, everyone at the facility became uncooperative, would not return phone calls or emails, it was like a total 180. Then, my sister was discharged after only 1 and 1/2 weeks because our insurance would no longer pay BECAUSE they did not include pain management in her treatment as they claimed they would. Now insurance wont pay for the time she did spend there and my family is stuck with the bill on top of being devastated by the situation we have been placed in. These people should be ashamed of themselves for lying to people who are going through something as difficult as addiction in the family. Taking advantage of our families' requests for help by manipulating us unto buying a plane ticket and sending her to a place under false pretenses is despicable at the least, and possibly even criminal, which I will be looking into. DO NOT, DO NOT consider this place for treatment. read more

I was recently a patient here. For the few weeks I was there I saw insurance fraud, OSHA violations and patient neglect. The techs were in charge of taking your vitals, not the nurses, I did not believe they were state qualified to do so. Nurses were in violation of hipaa laws unconcerned about who heard what. Myself and others felt as though we were being prodded like cattle from one meeting to another. Very little group time with therapists. Food was not bad but extremely unhealthy. I left do to the fact I was not getting appropriate medical care and was being isolated from others and my family was being lied to about my condition. If you feel you need individual attention this is not the place for you and a successful recovery. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone honestly. For the 20 days that I was there in May, I got to see a therapist one time. They say that this is a dual treatment program but it most deffinetly is not. Everyone attends the same classes, no matter what the reason for your stay is. It does not accommodate to everyone's needs. They were also unwilling to discharge me when my insurance would no longer pay. They kept pushing the date. I ended up with a hefty bill due to this. They say that they offer equine therapy (horses) but they do not. The only thing I did while I was there was listen to AA speakers or listen to the workers there who were previous addicts rant on about how addiction is bad but never actually told us how to prevent relapse or anything along those lines. The rooms were not really that clean and the bathroom disgusted me. I had to share the space with 3 other girls which I did not get along with but my therapist was unwilling to move me out of the cottage. There is a beach yes, but most of the time you are there, you will be spending it just looking at it. You are only allowed to go swimming on one designated day out of the week if you've been on good behavior. You're not even allowed to put your feet in. What's the point of this rehab being located on the beach, not quite sure. I did meet some amazing people while I was there though (patients) who I talked to more about staying sober and they helped me out more than the staff ever did. Half of the staff is pretty nice and the other half are just not meant to be around people. They treat you like crap. Their food was also horrible but thank God for the salad bar. I also have ADHD but since I was there for alcohol abuse, they did not allow me my medication even though I told them that I could not focus at all on any of the lessons. The place itself is nice but the staff just makes this rehab a total crap hole. After I got out, 2 days later I relapsed. I had not learned any coping skills whatsoever. I ended up going back to in patient at Sierra Tucson in Arizona where my real issues were confronted and dealt with. I found out the true reason I was self medicating with alcohol and since I got out of Sierra Tucson, I've been sober ever since. read more

This is not the place to go for anything, the place is nasty and my boyfriend that is still there has not gotten any better. I am not to a point of trying to help him and the people over at twelve oaks will not help or anything over the phone and even though I was aloud access to him they will not help me. I can see the 5 star on some of these reviews but I can only see that it was money related. If you need help with any type of addition DO NOT GOT TO TWELVE OAKS!!! This is a money hungry place and has only real interest in the people that has a lot of money, if you don't you will be treated like dirt and no real help will be given. I am now struggling on trying to help the man I love get better and he people he's paying don't even care. Again do not go here for treatment you will be disappointed and your loved one will not get better, these people don't care about anyone just money STAY AWAY, PLEASE STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!! read more

I hate to give a one star review because both the nursing and maintenance staffs were so wonderfully compassionate and hard working, however I must do so because the place is otherwise fundamentally flawed and I wish to discourage folks from getting sucked into this scam of a program. Previous reviews have hit the nail on the head when describing the smooth talking representatives one reaches with their initial contact by phone, who paint a very rosy picture which misrepresents this run down facility and menial, one-size-fits-all treatment program. I checked myself into 12 Oaks and first became uneasy during the admin process. In a great deal of distress, I was hurried through the process and asked to sign several forms that had not been filled out. When I inquired about this, I was told not to worry because nothing had been filled in, which made no sense whatsoever. It was a Saturday afternoon and it seemed the administrator had been to brunch before work because there was the unmistakable odor of Bloody Mary on her breath and she actually laughed inappropriately at some of my responses to her questions. My experience only worsened from there. I understand that this is a business but the bottom line was obviously more important than providing quality care to each patient. Simply put: THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY PATIENTS!!! Too many for the size of the facility. Too many for the size of the staff. Realizing I couldn't possibly receive the amount of individual counseling I needed and desired, I decided on the first day that I wanted to leave and expressed this to one of the nurses who referred me to a councilor who suggested I finish detox before leaving. This made sense and I was told by the nurse practitioner and then the doctor that I would be in detox for a week. I made arrangements with my family to leave a week later. Four days later, without warning, I was told that my detox was completed and that I was being moved into general population. Not wishing to integrate further into the community, I asked to leave. One councilor referred me to another who said that she "might" be able to see me the next day and provide me with a 72 hr release form which would allow me to collect my personal items including cash credit cards and car keys. The only problem with that was that these items were only available for recuperation M-F and 72 hrs later fell on a Saturday meaning I would have to stay five or six days after detox had been completed. I ended up having to leave on foot, use a phone down the road to call the sheriff, and return with a deputy who ordered the release of my personal property. 12 Oaks complied but only after getting me to sign that I was leaving "Against Medical Advice" meaning that my insurance was likely to pass the bill onto me. I FEEL SCAMMED and they know what they're doing. Please avoid 12 OAKS. My experience there has ultimately been traumatic. As I said before, those staff members working directly with patients are great people who care a lot about their jobs but the administration is throwing too many people at them. This is a facility trying to squeeze every dollar they can out of a horrible epidemic in this country. It's really sad. I'm currently in treatment elsewhere and wish for all in recovery to find the peace they deserve. read more

Be ready to follow strict rules and to eat unhealthy, fatty food menu from the dietitian who happens to be obese, and rather insulting. The rude staff ...I think they call themselves "psych techs" exhibit Hitler attitudes towards patients,due to the fact that they have serious control issues and are clueless in terms of understanding an addiction personality. The location is beautiful...however, patients are not allowed in the beautiful water unless they are "assigned" to attend the kayak outing early in the morning one time a week! Do not attend the the "christian group" lead by Lawenia if you over 20 years old. She is too busy to meet with you due to the fact that she appears to spend all of her work hours on preparing her sermons at her church, which she encourages her group to attend. This is fine; however, she is so into herself that she continually talks about her rehab and her sobriety and her Christianity that her speech in the group session is rather monotonous and boring. read more

My daughter is there now and the staff here has saved her life, literally! She has medical complications from her addiction, the staff recognized it, sent her to the local ER which sent her to wound care, where she was diagnosed with a sever medical problem. If it wasn't for the caring staff she would likely have died! DO NOT pay attention to those negative reviews! They are Gods angels if you ask me, they have kept my child alive! read more

By far the worst experience of my entire life. Hopefully by the time anyone reads this I will have this "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" mind chop shop shutdown for medical malpractice. My wife went there to get off prescription pain medication she has been taking for years. She got there on a Friday and on Monday they called me and said she wants to leave and we do not have the legal right to hold her, but if she does leave we will call the Sheriffs office and have her Baker acted. That hit me like a ton of bricks, my wife flew up there on her own to get help and your going to call the cops and throw her in the looney bin? I said please don't do that. They allowed me a few minutes to talk to her and I got her calmed down. By the way you have no contact from your loved one or the staff while they are there so you have no idea whats going on. I was petrified so I threw some clothes in a bag and drove over 500 miles to get to "Twelve Jokes". I was waiting in the lobby that Tuesday when the guy "Chris the lier" showed up. He smoothed me right over with a hand full of howdy and mouth full of bunch O'blige (Hicksville fashion). I told him I was at a hotel 1 mile away and could be there in 5 minutes. DO NOT CALL THE COPS ON MY WIFE. He promised me he would not. I made contact with the facility daily, Never got to see or speak to my wife. Friday afternoon (Exactly 7 days later) they hit my debit card for $5,300 and Chris (lier) called to tell me your wife is now at Ft. Walton Beach Hospital. He said my boss told me to Baker act her. She is now locked up in a nut ward being legally held against her will and Im not allowed to see or speak to her or sign her out. If anyone is interested in seeing the emails I have from the staff at Twelve Jokes I would be happy to share them. Trust me, Its even worse then it sounds but this would turn into a book. Twelve Oaks probably caters mostly to homeless junkies that have no means to really complain. They crossed me and my wife and we have the ways and the means to battle this huge injustice. If you want your loved one locked away in a mental institution send them here to Twelve Oaks, Tell Chris I sent you, He knows who I am and he will never forget me and neither will the rest of them crackpots. They are also refusing to give me my wife's property so if you do go here, wear a paper gown cause chances are thats how you will leave. I had to give them one star to post this, I guess I can justify for the location. Its on the beach but thats for the employees to enjoy.
