We didn't actually get to stay at our vacation home booked through Twiddy, but since they took the small fortune we paid for it there's reason enough to write a review of them. Lesson learned: Get the travel insurance option, because this company didn't provide a dime back from our FULL ADVANCE payment (other than taxes) when our family experienced a medical emergency that had one member in critical condition back in the Midwest.
This terrible and unforeseen news came to us in the middle of a Friday night on the weekend we were to depart for the vacation we had spent so much time and money arranging. We contacted Twiddy first thing in the morning to let them know about our situation and cancelled the reservation. And, later on, we provided documentation that the hospital provides for just this sort of situation.
The arrangement required FULL payment IN ADVANCE -- half of it months in advance -- and included the unforgiving stipulation that there is NO refund in the event of a cancellation, unless the property happens to be re-rented. We have to take Twiddy's word that they made an effort to re-rent, but in any event that did not happen. So, at the end of the day, they get to keep all of the money and we, the renters, are left empty-handed.
We of course weren't expecting a full refund, but were dealt an extremely harsh lesson that a company like Twiddy wouldn't offer ANYTHING -- not a partial refund, not any type of credit or discount for another reservation. If that's the type of outfit you're willing to wager your hard-earned vacation dollars with, good luck.
Thankfully the critically-ill family member made made a miraculous recovery and was able to leave the hospital after some difficult weeks. That honestly is most important part of the story to us. But the cold, unsympathetic business practices we faced in dealing with Twiddy in the aftermath our family emergency gave us a new perspective on planning a vacation. Protect yourself with travel insurance, because this company, at least, will take your money and leave you out in the cold. read more
