I have been a patient at the Maple Grove iSpine Clinic for a good number of years. I have read all…read morethe negative comments on this page, and am also aware of the other side of the story. Remember what a mess drug prescriptions were? Everybody's dog was scripting drugs, even simply at the patient's request. Well, medicine has become more specialized and pain is no exception. This is a good thing. Congress has made drug regulations very detailed, and insurance companies have created an obsticle course, so much so that Family Doctors have a tough time dealing with all of it. These new pain clinics are designed to deal with all the regs on drugs insurance companies AND protect both the doctors legally and the patients medically. Skilled and talented nurses have rigid rules that keep everything in accordance and running smoothly. Special procedures are in place for everyone's protection, and they are important. Excuse me if this is repetitive. I want you to understand. In my opinion, nurses handle most all patient contact, evaluation, analysis, prescribing, everything, often in consultation with the doctor. Doctors will avoid any comments, referring you to your family practitioner for questions or evaluation. They are totally protecting themselves with the nurses as buffers. You can not call to speak to a nurse or doctor for anything other than scheduling. They even have assistants witnessing and recording their interaction with the patient, now. This is all a good thing. Insurance companies and laws, litigation and misdiagnosing, etc., etc. have to be dealt with, firmly and strictly in order to serve patients efficiently, safely, legally all in the patient's best interest. The pain clinic program has been, for these and other reasons, a huge success in helping deal with the 'War on Drugs." Yes, I have felt some 'rudeness' at times, seen the hard and fast rules, but nobody tells you why. Dr. William Fox, MD. (retired) explained to me over the years of his involvement in this program and the forces doctors have to deal with. He gave me an insight not generally available. I've had a chance to see both sides of the picture and it's not perfect. Humans are prone to failure. That's how we learn. We are still learning about pain, still trying new things. I have had great success along with some 'kinda' successes, but on the whole, I'm happy as a bear in honey with iSpine. They have my pain under control and I have a ton and a half of pain. I'm a regular Evel Kinevil with this, that and everything broken and the rest just one big pain. The few "Pains" I may get from iSpine are in my best interest and I don't need a special procedure for them. These guys do a fantastic job and they get my many thanks for trying to simplify what seemed to be at one time, an insurmountable job. You give 'em a break, too! Bob K. Oak Grove, MN

After reading more reviews I guess I should be glad I already canceled all future appointments. My pain is extreme but I can't trust this clinic. It feels like your treated as a test animal and not a human being After getting a message saying they would talk to the office staff, I called again to get info about the MRI I was told we discussed but don't remember doing so.....and AGAIN...NO CALL BACK! AFTER LEAVING 2 MESSAGES 48 HOURS APART FROM EACH OTHER!

Met with a NP, who told me that she would never prescribe anything for the pain and that the intrathecal pain pump was my only option. I had previously tried the spinal cord stimulator with failing results. After the "trial" I ended up with a spinal fluid leak, leading to excruciating headaches. After days of calling, they finally scheduled a procedure to fix the leak. I should have seen the signs then, but was so hopeful to have relief. Had the pain pump installed and thought everything was fine and I would finally live with less pain. Little did I know, the pump would be empty before the date they told me to come back on and I was forced to endure morphine withdrawals on my own. Phone calls went unanswered and portal messages ignored. When my NP finally responded to me via the portal, she blamed the emptying on me. Fast forward to round 2, I asked for a medication change due to the side effects I was experiencing, was given the change but again was forced to withdrawal because they will not return phone calls asking for a fill. I am so done, I will have the pump removed and learn to live in pain. Do your homework!!!

I told Sally Kangas that my family physician would no longer prescribe my pain medication after the end of the month, and still wouldn't even knowing I would be going through withdrawal. My primary physician here is actually Nurse Practitioner Kristin Bleninger-Sundar. She's a wonderful caring woman who has been a blessing to me. She understands what chronic pain is (and what it's like to have to deal with it every day) better than others. She's knowledgeable about the many different options and procedures that can be tried to get you even more pain relief than you can ever hope for. Dr. Janiga is a ray of sunshine for the doctors here. He is kind, caring, and has an awesome bedside manner and really knows what he's doing but takes time to talk to you about what he's doing and make sure that you are both on the same page. Now, a doctor I leave nameless here, only as a courtesy, if you choose to go here you may or may not get along with but most patients (and staff) I talk to feel the same distain I have for him. He is rude, short (tempered), snotty, and deserves to be put in his place really, but will never change even if that were to occur. I'm sure you know the type. He has the bedside manner of a dead fish and the personality of a cold washcloth. If you have seen him then you know who I am talking about! If you have seen him and found yourself hating him, please give the other people here a chance to help you. Everyone else here is wonderful! Just come and give the chance to Kristin or Dr. Janiga and the rest of the staff and as long as you don't see the other doctor at all the rest of your care here should be pleasant
