We rented an alto sax and the nicest guy ever explained what my son would need. When you rent an instrument for the school year, you pay in full up front. The guy made it clear that you won't pay a penalty if it's past the May deadline because schools have end of the year concerts etc. Near the end of the year we got a card in the mail telling us if we paid for next years rental we could keep the instrument over the summer for free. We did that. Also, a rental includes a yearly "tune up". While the sax was in the shop, our son announced he needed it TODAY for school. Of course. I called the store and talked to the woman who was repairing it. "Oh I'm working on it now, I could have it for you in 20 mins." Perfect

She is in every respect a worthy successor to carry forward the legendary Becker family tradition. Jennifer is unfailingly honest and professional. She wants nothing more than to make your instrument sound as good as it possibly can, whether it's a student instrument or a Strad. She is welcoming, friendly, and understanding with every type of string player, student to lifelong amateur, young professional to world class soloist. You will not find her combination of knowledge, skill, passion, humility, and true art anywhere else. In spite of her status at the pinnacle of her profession, she is completely unassuming. I have a lot of money (well, not really) and I am genuinely in the market for... music stuff. Groth Music has guitars, but guitar is not its primary focus. Instead, Groth is the spot to go to when you want to find sheet music. I think there's still a lot of value in this despite e-commerce. A lot of times, the quality of sheet music isn't clear, especially for pop music. It's very useful to be able to look at the pages for yourself. I'm rating Groth 3 stars because no employee felt like greeting me. I was especially disappointed that the guy in the guitar section simply sat at his desk without even trying to engage me at all. He semi-grumpily said "let me know if you have any questions." I genuinely could've bought something, even a guitar, if he took the second to chat with me like many local music shop workers often do. Instead, I got Guitar Center-level service.

The difference is night and day. Culture - The instructors at Lundstrum do a great job of instilling a culture of encouragement rather than competitiveness that filters down to the students. The older kids encourage and help the younger kids and everyone cheers for each other. Expertise - Every instructor is a trained professional in their field. Most of the younger instructors perform all around the Twin Cities and several instructors had careers on Broadway before working at Lundstrum. They challenge their students to really work on precision and technique and it really shows. My daughter's tap skills, for example, advanced more in her first year at Lundstrum than in four years at her previous studio. Scheduling - Group classes are scheduled so that age groups can have classes back-to-back. No driving to the dance studio five nights a week if your kid is taking six classes. This INCREDIBLY nice for busy families. Range of classes - If your kid loves the stage, it's not enough to just learn to dance, they have to do it all--singing, dancing, and acting. The main programs at Lundstrum do a great job of melding the three into a Broadway curriculum with expert instructors in each classroom. Clear costs - Unlike most dance studios, Lundstrum won't suprise you with a bunch of hidden costs. Many studios charge extra for approved rehearsal clothing, recital costumes, etc. In our daughter's last year at a different studio, we spent over $400 on costumes that she used once and then never wore again! All of that is included at Lundstrum.
