A gorgeous little park. We loved the trail, it was very clearly maked with lots of signage. There were a lot of mosquitos, but that's to he expected when you combine woodlands and water. My only complaint about this park is the day use area is not easily found. We did not camp here, but ended up driving through both campgrounds trying to figure out where to park. There is a sign pointing to beach access, but until you go down that road, you don't know it's part of the park. read more

We came upon Twin Harbors by accident last week when driving home from Olympic Park. We try to at least briefly stop by every state park we pass when out hiking and exploring. On the coast with some winding little trails under the trees and through the sand, the day use area and one row of campground sites were open. We decided to take the trails on a short leg-stretcher just to see what Twin Harbors was all about. Up and over the sandy dunes and around muddy patches we weaved for a mile or so, and back through the campground to the van. The beaches were empty, a few campers staying overnight, and a handful of cars coming and going from day use. It felt pretty peaceful at Twin Harbors, we would've happily grabbed a site for a night if we weren't heading home. Probably wouldn't be more to do here for more than one night, but it's a low-key spot for a stopover or picnic. read more

We have stayed at both the campgrounds and in the cabinettes on different occasions. The campground closest to the sea is also where the cabinettes and yurts are located (yurt alert), and it is prettier, with nicer shower facilities as well, than the main campground. That being said, it is also far less private, which doesn't matter if you have a trailer/RV or are a cabinetter. The cabinettes are new, look like they have ramshackle, plywoody interiors but are actually pretty sturdy. The floors are bare concrete, with two tables (one that seat 4, another that's more like a nightstand). There is a bunk bed with a single upper and double lower, and a fold-out futon with steel frame and vinyl padding. The beds have mattresses, but no bedding beyond that. There are power outlets but no other amenities. Showers and restrooms are located in one of two facilities, each of which has private bathroom and shower stalls. The showers stupidly require tokens, for which you have to feed one dollar bills into a very finnicky machine. What is this, the 70's? One token equals a 3 minute shower, which I learned you can get more accomplished in than I thought, especially since the water comes on hot right away. While the token system is stupid, the tokens--especially the shiny ones--make good souvenirs of your visit. Even if you are not a crow or a magpie. Beyond he campgrounds, the park is mostly an interconnecting series of short, flat trails that wend through a complex of stubby, bent seusussian shore pines with various access points to a beautiful stretch of Pacific beach dunes. We could hear the roar of the mighty Pacific even whilst ensconced in the cabinette at night with the heater on. As I drifted off to sleep it vaguely occurred to me that if there was a tsunami anywhere near here, we'd be dead, but somehow the thought wasn't enough to keep me up lately than my usual bedtime. By the way, reading Gould's Book of Fish by Richard Flannigan aloud to your partner in a fuax-East London/Australian accent is a great activity you can do here. It's an amazing book, and the Aussie accent is damn difficult to nail down. Almost as hard as Scottish. But what can I say? I'm a dumb American who watches too many Dickens adaptations on BBC. What do you expect from me? In addition to wind, waves, books and sea, they also had huge, HUGE, H-U-G-E Alice In Wonderland-style Amanita muscaria (Fly Agaric) mushrooms all over the campground and throughout the forests, along with numerous russulas and other sundry LBM's (little brown mushrooms). They say that the Sami people of Lapland would watch the reindeer wobble and swoon upon munching on these mushrooms, and somehow figured out that muscarine--an alleged hallucinogen--was excreted intact in the urine, so they would catch the reindeer urine in bowls and sit in circles around the fire yelling "pass the pot, pass the pot!" over and over as they continued...er..."recycling' their trippy drinky poo's over and over throughout the night. What visions did they have? Not any remotely resembling the imagery from Gould's Book of Fish, I pray. I honestly think the legendary tales of the Fly Agaric's power to shape shift exist only in folklore, but I'll offer my remaining shower tokens to whomever will eat the mushrooms, drink whatever they end up excreting afterwards--so long as they promise to write a lurid account of the experience and publish it as a yelp review. Urophagia: don't try it kids. Stay in school. Drink milk. Not your pee, even if it's full of drugs. read more

Nice camp site for tent camping but, 1) too many mosquitoes, due to being located in a wetlands area. Apparently it's especially bad this year with all the damp weather. 2) too much road noise for sleeping in a tent. Camp is broken out into a west and east section that closely flank highway 105. The RV campers may not feel the noise is an issue. Park attendants are friendly and helpful. Amenities are good. Bathroom and shower facilities are typical for a state park. Our site had a nice big firepit/ grill and a good sized picnic table. Easy walking access to sandy beach with several trails out. Easy to get to from Aberdeen. Close to beach access via car/ truck, but be extra mindful of vehicle traffic while enjoying the beach. read more

The camp spaces are very small and melt into each other. No privacy at all, and your tent is within 40ft of your neighboring campers. So you get to enjoy the smokey thick smell of their fire all night and different conversations from all angles. Also, dogs off leashes. I am allergic to dogs and have an infant, it made me extremely uncomfortable having dogs pass through our site. It's expensive, too. You have to pay for additional vehicles to be on your camping space, ($10/night) have discover passes, pay the nightly rate and pay for showering! ($1 for 2 tokens good for 3 minutes each.) Check out time is 1pm, I feel that is a bit early. The perks: very close to the ocean beach. That was nice. read more

The majority of the parking lot was flooded and/or frozen when I went and the road was partially blocked but I took a chance and crashed through the thin ice and parked my car in one of the non-icy spots. I do like that the parking lot is very very close to the beach. The beach was blocked with huge concrete blocks so I wonder if they are removed during the peak season so people can drive on the beach. There are public restrooms which I couldn't get to without bustin mah azz on the ice and I really had to pee :( There are also picnic tables amongst the trees and barbeque pits. I can't say anything negative about going to the beach. I love it so much! You do have to have the Discovery Pass but there is a station that you can pay per day. I will definitely go back because there weren't a huge amount of people at the beach and I could really just soak it in sitting there in my little chair. Went here for a recent weekend camping trip with a group of friends. We had a large enough party where we had to rent out 2 camp sites. The sites were pretty spacious, each with their own fire pit and picnic table. There are tons of campsite available here and spaces for RV's as well. Plenty of bathroom facilities and water faucets. The bathrooms were also pretty clean (as far as camping can go that is) and they have a shower in one of the stalls. There is also firewood ($5), kindling ($2) and ice ($3) for sale here, so if you're ever low on any of them there are no worries. My only problem is that the campsites are super close to each other. Although our group took 2 sites, they were only separated by a large log. If we just had the 1 site I could only imagine it would be pretty intrusive to our neighbors. The best part of Twin Harbors campground is the nearby beach. One of the softest sands I've been to in a long time. It's hard to find beaches like this in Washington. My whole group had a blast in the sun building sand castles and wading in the water. Definitely will be coming back again. read more

I expected more out of a state park. You will pay the same price for state campgrounds that have pavement, free showers, and some real estate around your site. Also they removed the standard outlets and you have to buy an adapter. One whole section is shut down. No fire pits. They took them out, just as well since the sites are very small. We will look for different places to camp. read more

I'm done staying at state parks. I hate being crammed in to a tiny spot that isn't level, having dirty - I mean FILTHY - restrooms, having the loud people right next to me, while park brass couldn't care less. All for an amount that is way too high!!! That was my last experience, at Cape Disappointment. And it was for the past two nights at Twin Harbors. Only, this time I called the front desk twice about the drunks next to us going nuts in Mandarin at 11:15. The first time, the guy said he would be there in two minutes. Never happened. So I called again and said that unless they wanted blood shed in their park, they would shut these people up or throw them out. And.... NOTHING! So I didn't care that it was four guys and four girls, I marched in 1-on-8 ready to go balls to the wall any of them. Nice of the park to help out! So next time they're whining about money, asking for an opt-out or pay $5 extra on the car tabs, I will... opt OUT. They've already taken a good chunk of my change for mediocre sites with little to no services. Any private business would have been belly-up by now! read more

This is a poor excuse for a state park, we camp all over Oregon, and Washington. I've never been to a site so poorly ran ever. First off they note that a Discover pass is required for extra vehicles, so on our way to Westport we bought one. Then we get there, only to find out that the Discover pass is only good for the day time, and not overnight camping, and that when you pay the overnight fee for the extra vehicle, it covers that vehicle for the day, so really the Discover pass was unnecessary. When we voiced being upset over it, the park ranger admitted that it throws a lot of people off, and they deal with the same complaint a lot on a daily basis, so why not fix it, why not make it more clear what is required to park extra vehicles? They won't change it, because the state, and the state park are making extra money off of you, and so they are making bank, why would they want to change it. At every other state park that we've been to there has been someone to tell the louder groups to quiet down after a certain time, yet here, at 1am, when you have the Mariachi band singing at the top of their lungs, and the drunks going crazy, no one came to tell them to tone it down, even with all of the other campers yelling at them to quiet down. I've NEVER been to a state park where the bathrooms were not cleaned at least once at night, or very early in the morning. It was a holiday weekend, we woke up at 8:30am Saturday morning, and there was NO toilet paper, and the bathroom was filthy. We noticed someone coming in with toilet paper, so we left, to come back when the bathroom was clean, yet all they did was change the toilet paper, they did NOT clean the stalls, the floor, the sinks, or the shower area, all in which were in desperate need of cleaning, it was disgusting. Also, being pet friendly, there was dog poop everywhere, and mostly around the bathroom areas, yes the owners should have taken care of it, but since the presence of workers was so scarce, people didn't really care. Also, due to the low presence of rangers, and workers, there were a lot of wanderers, It was great being so close to the beach, and within a short driving distance to the town, very kid friendly, but overall we were a bit disappointed. Also, note that the infestation of mosquito's is very high here, everyone had 20-50 bites, and that was with excessive spraying attempts, candles, and other various products designed to keep them at bay. I'm sure it could have been a lot worse, but it was not the best either. We'd love to go back if they took a little more pride, care, and enforced some kind of noise control at night. read more

I suppose if you are tent camping there are some nice spots here. But if you are in a trailer or RV beware. There is a reason that this is a first come, first served no reservation needed park most of the year. Pay close attention to the site information on the parks website when the park system rates quality and privacy as poor they mean it! This is one of the oldest state parks along the ocean - if not one of the first that supplied "hook ups" for trailers. The hook-up sites are small and packed close together. If you have a slide out or awning you may have to give up your awning being open in order to have your slide out open. Sites were designed for much smaller trailers than most people have nowadays, unless you are in a teardrop or other compact trailer. If you have a generator there are nicer sites in the campground section that is west of the highway. If they had hookups for trailers/RV's on the west side this would be a much more popular park with the RV/Trailer crowd. As for the tent sites - it's a mixed bag. Many are "under" standing water when it rains (which means most of the year) and for most of last winter the park was closed due to widespread flooding. I have noticed that parks with a large number of standard (aka tent) sites tend to be noisier. I have spoken with rangers who complain about how people don't realize how much sound carries in parks or think that camping means it's okay to be loud, drunk, obnoxious and let their kids run wild. It's not an easy job to be a park ranger out here at the ocean. In fact the park rangers at Twin Harbors and Grayland do triple duty splitting themselves between the two parks, the miles of beach from Twin Harbors, past Grayland, all the way down to North Cove/Washaway Beach and also patrolling Westhaven State Park in Westport to boot. The State Parks system has recently completed a master plan/use study for this park but given the fact that the park system in general has been operating with an "under funded" budget for decades who knows how long it will be before they remodel or upgrade the facilities at Twin Harbors. People complain about the price they pay and the lack of amenities or staffing but they don't realize that their camping fees don't go right back into the parks budget but into the state general fund. Once money goes into the general fund it's fair game to be distributed to any program, service or budget funded by state money. read more

Never been here before, last weekend was first time camping and accessing this park. We got site #148. Perfect fit for 6 adults and 2 toddlers. Privacy was maintained, plenty of room for parking a Toyota Forerunner and a Honda Pilot. Restrooms were well maintained, granted it was a full weekend and toilet paper would run out by late afternoon/early evening. As long as you brought your own TP for insurance, you'd be okay. Park's ground crew arrived like clockwork between 7:30am-8:30am to do bathroom maintenance. (Proof positive, the bathrooms didn't have a rank smell nor did they have a bunch of insects buzzing about like other campsites I've seen.) Some of the women's stalls didn't have an eye or hook on them, but the doors were swollen enough from moisture in air to mostly keep them shut. Shower tip, tokens are 2 for $1.00. One token = 3 minute shower. Also, restrooms near site# 148 had electrical outlets for those that need to charge their cells/devices. Even with no fire ban in place my group was able to safely enjoy a propane/butane powered bbq/grills to cook our meals. read more

Pretty legit spot! Rolled in here to go for a nice beach walk and walk some of the trails along beach. Walked quite a bit down the coast, saw lots of birdies in flocks on the shore trying to run away from the winds, those little suckers were mocking us! The beach was very beautiful today, the sun shined and gleamed on each wave that coasted toward us. We saw lots of people walking thier dogs, and some were driving on the beach which I can imagine being pretty fun. There was this one individual that was driving thier car with thier dog right next to them, so I guess you can say they "Drove-walked" thier dog which is pretty darn innovative if you ask me. Overall a nice place to take a break, walk the beach, or set up a mini camp site. read more

Now I'm not much of a camper...this was only my second time camping. But I liked this place a lot. The beach was a short hike away and the campsite we got was big enough for all of us. We got lucky and got a spot that was a bit more secluded than others. Couple of things though....wish they were cleaner about the bathrooms. Ended up having to walk a bit further to go to a different bathroom because that was cleaner than the one near our campsite and would have been nice to have known that there was going to be some sort of church event there where they were up at the crack of dawn singing their hearts out for a couple of hours!!! Nothing against that...but they could have waited until 8 am to start singing!!!! read more

Overall, we liked it here. Right on the beach.....more expensive than we are used to in Oregon (was $22 a night, plus $6 for firewood - vs $10 and $5), but was a pleasant stay. Clean bathrooms. Note that you have to pay extra for showers (a quarter per token? takes 4 tokens? don't know - we used the free surfer showers) The place is separated into two camps, no pun intended. The main area is across the highway with a weird way that you drive in one driveway, and out another....but, take one of their maps and you will find the host with firewood across the street. Neighbors were very quiet and respectful....and we were no where near the camp host so it was not because of that (host keeping them quiet). I just wish they would wait to do the weed whacking until check out at 1pm. I go to have it be quiet and enjoyable....to get away from weed whackers! The next night was somewhere else and they did not do that. The northwest loves being noisy so few will likely get this difference. read more

This was a very nice woodsy campground. We had a very sizeable spot and very shady. We could hear the ocean at night and a beautiful sky full of stars. The facilities were nice but the shower curtain was a bit moldy. Eh, it's a campground...lol Beach access was a breeze too. Only downside would be if you get a site right next to the highway, it could be lots of noise. Overall a wonderful experience. read more

We stayed two nights here. It's a nice camping area if you stay on the east side of the highway. We drove by the western side campgrounds and didn't see anything we liked. The east side was a slightly longer walk to the beach but it was worth it for the privacy. We had two labs with us so we needed privacy so they wouldn't bother other campers. The staff was very courteous and nice. They were selling firewood at the front office which was convenient. I thought the bathrooms were as clean as at any campsite. Overall we were happy with our stay. You can hear a few police/fire/EMS sirens from time to time since you are never far from the highway. read more

I can see how this place might get a little crazy on a busy weekend, but on a beautiful summer Sunday night it was a great spot to pitch a tent for a night. We had our choice of 50+ campsites and snagged one with a buffer of several open campsites between us and the nearest neighbors. We were in the West area, an easy (less than 5 minute) walk to the beach. The beach to the north of the park is closed to motorized vehicles in the summer months, which is a plus if you're out with kids or dogs. Each campsite had a firepit and a picnic table. They are packed pretty tightly, so don't expect much privacy. The bathroom facilities were simple, but clean and well-stocked (no soap, though). There was a token-operated shower. The payment system for after-hours was painless (just bring cash; the office isn't staffed after 4pm or something like that) and I think our campsite was $22 for the night, with no hookups... it was well worth it. As a side note, we tried Grayland Beach State Park first but there were only RV hookup sites available and even those were mostly full. Twin Harbors was definitely more tent-friendly and actually quieter the night we went. It would be a good spot to bring a group and snag a few neighboring campsites. read more

My wife and I were headed down to the Oregon coast for the weekend and last minute found this place. I really wasn't too impressed with the campground, most of the sites were right on top of one another, there isn't much tree coverage so most the time you feel like you just in a dirt parking lot, but we lucked out because we had a nice flat spot to lie our tent down. I'd say the one good part about this place is there is a little trail that leads right over to the beach. You just walk over some dunes and you are on a nice sandy beach. The campground wasn't anything to write home about but being that close to a nice sandy beach may entice me to go back. read more

We stayed in the RV section of the campground which features full hook-ups. This part of the park is a little older and the sites were laid out at a time when trailers were far smaller than they are today. The result is that this part of the park is fairly crowded and space is at a premium. Expect to be cozy with your neighbors. The rest of the park was laid out fairly well and there is a mixture of beautiful sites with varying levels of privacy. Some were very private and others had very little privacy but overall the quality of the sites at the time we visited were just fine and they were well maintained and beautiful. The staff here is responsive and friendly. When we pulled in we found our site service pedestal had no power because of a faulty breaker. Unfortunately for us, there was no one trained on site on a Friday evening who could swap out breakers so we had to sit without heat overnight. At 7am Saturday morning, someone was at our site and corrected the problem and we had no more problems for the rest of our stay. One thing worth noting: This campground's pedestals have ONLY 30 amp service. If you desire 20 amp plug-ins then you had better come equipped with your own adapter or be prepared to pay for it at the campground. They are far cheaper to bring your own. 50 amp users already know the drill and usually are well equipped with various adapters. The restrooms and showers at this park are again a mix of older and newer facilities but all were clean and well maintained even on a busy holiday weekend. I visited a restroom at 10 am on Labor Day after the full holiday weekend and it was still clean and well stocked. The Campground is a 5 minute walk from beautiful sand beaches and a very short drive to Westport. This is a busy State Park and there will be kids and there will be noise so if you expected a silent wilderness experience, then you will likely be disappointed so you might want to take your high-end camp gear and attitude elsewhere. If you are looking for a clean, friendly, campground with the typical campground experience near the beautiful Pacific Ocean and some gorgeous scenery then this place fits the bill just fine. We had a great time and will probably be back. read more

First visit to Twin Harbor state park today. And it was a complete disappointment. While the weather showed that it was 73 degrees and sunny, the actual weather was barely 60 and foggy and super windy. Couldn't even see the water from the beach. We ended up trying to make the best of it, but only lasted about 30 minutes. Covered in sand from the wind, we were again disappointed to find no water to wash the sand off with. I would expect a beach that you pay to enter should have some running water to wash sand off. We won't ever be back. read more

My family enjoyed staying here for a few days....people should realize that there are two parts to the campground...if you stay on the west side near the beach, there isn't much tree cover and the sites are close to each other....we stayed on the other side with two very spacious connecting sites. ...the bathrooms we're about as clean as any state park I've been to and it was quite peaceful....of course it's in August in the middle of the week...I would definitely stay again...Grayland State Park is really nice also read more

My family/friends/crew and I have been camping at this facility for over 20 years EVERY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. Budget cuts in recent years have had an adverse result on staffing and attitude thereof, but the amenities are excellent and well cared for. Yes, there is an ANCIENT bathroom facility(built in urinals in the mens area, can only imagine what the women's is like) on the West side loop but they just built and opened a second new restroom building with showers and toilets so there is a nice new one at each end of the beach side loop and the ancient one in the middle. I hesitate to be so ebullient about the campgrounds but all the negative posters make me nuts. This is a Washington State Park with excellent amenities and campsites. Yes, the hookup sites are packed in but as another poster mentioned, this campground has been open for decades and not many people went camping in over-sized motor-homes back then. If you must flaunt your conspicuous consumption, go where you are better accommodated(Grayland) and leave Twin Harbors for the folks that appreciate what it is. The nature trails are a bit mosquito-y year-round due to the water and yes many sites are flooded out in the early part of the camping season, but that is part of the experience. If you aren't up for it, stay home or go to Palm Springs. Oh, and as far as the cranky pants poster about kids goes, PLEASE!! Camping is for kids and one of the greatest things about THIS campground, especially the Beach Side Loop, is that the kids can ride their bikes around pretty freely and meet new friends and people. Again, if you don't like the friendly nature of camping, go to Palm Springs where all the snobs are content to act like they don't care about anybody else. My kids all grew up expecting to ride thier bikes ALL DAY LONG around that loop each and every year. They have GREAT memories of those weekends and are now trekking up for the trip on thier own with their own friends. In a few years we will, in one way or another, be reserving that whole loop for our peeps. Not really, but we are up to 6 sites this year alone and it is still 2012. In my experiences the park staff are perfect. We have huge fires(bring and burn over a cord of wood for the 4 day weekend) and they only have to remind us a couple of times to keep the fire IN the pit. We drink and enjoy ourselves but respect others enjoyment as well. Yes, there are always those that get out of hand but don't condemn a whole campground for one bunch of unruly idiots. I have camped all over the west coast at state parks, KOA, private camp grounds and for my money this is hands down the best "Beach Camp" I have seen. It isn't right that the money that is generated from the state parks goes into a general fund, but that is the way it is. The rangers are great, for the most part, and as with anything else, you get FROM it what you put INTO it. Bottom line, know what you are doing, know how to have a good time, and know how to keep it within reason. And if you are there on Memorial Day Weekend 2013, come by and say HI to a fellow YELPer. Just look for the consistently biggest fire. Or the smell of garlic, we eat WELL at Beach Camp!! Oh, and there is always Apple Pie to be shared. But you have to drink it from the shared jug. I'm reading the previous reviews AFTER staying here over Labor Day Weekend and I'm surprised by some of the previous reviews. We were able to get a last-minute reservation here, which surprised us. We were even more surprised to arrive on Saturday afternoon to see a half dozen empty sites near ours...again, it was Labor Day Weekend. 1. One reviewer mentioned the density of people here--they must have been in the RV/camper section. Further back, every tent site had a decent amount of privacy, courtesy of tall marsh grass, shrubs and low growing trees (BONUS: our site had little frogs hopping around. We left them alone and they did the same, only came out of the grassy area in the evening). We were in the main campground. The area across the road, closer to the beach seems to be drier and less shaded. 2. One reviewer mentions the ground being hard and rocky. I think that's why its called the ground. This isn't a KOA. Get real tent stakes (not the ones that come with the tent-- and bring a mallet.) 3. I thought the showers and bathrooms were decent, not super clean--but how much time are you spending in there anyway? If you're camping correctly, not very long. Yes, they use tokens (token machine in front of the office. 4tokens for a dollar. Takes two tokens for 3min. Not too difficult. If they didn't use a token system, people would probably overuse the showers. 4. Noise level was good while we were there. One group was playing music that could be heard from several sites away. Luckily it was country music, which goes well with campfires. Also, they promptly turned it off at 9pm. 5. Firewood$6/kindling$3 was for sale at the front office, but they also have a truck going around the campground several times per evening selling wood and kindling. Overall, we were surprised by the lack of crowds and how close this campground is to a really nice beach. Nearby Westport is a little sleepy, but we visited the lighthouse, Brady's oysters, as well as the donut shop, ice cream shop and Gifts Ahoy Sea Shanty, with the best saltwater taffy-- We will definitely be back. read more

Twin Harbors campground is ok. It's not bad and it's not great. Typically we stay at Grayland Beach campground just down the road but on this occasion Grayland Beach was booked up so we took a site a Twin Harbors. The campground can vary depending on if you are on the west side of the highway (Ocean side) or the East side. I have never stayed on east side but the hookup sites look like they are one on top of each other. Even though we have an RV that could have made use of the hookup we went for a non-hook up site on the Westside so we could have a more normal site with some privacy. From here on the review will pertain to the Westside of the campground. It has an the old fashion state park feel to it, which for me is good thing. This side is a single loop with sites in the middle and outer side of the road. On site parking is on the grass, there are no real tent pads so if your using a tent it will be pitch it on the grass. Some sites flood and are closed in the winter time. As with any of the campgrounds on the coast wind and rain can be an issue almost anytime of the year so come prepared. Pros: Easy walk to the beach. The two new restroom facilities are in good condition and are very modern and private. Some sites have good privacy. Can hear the surf from your camp site Closer to Westport over Grayland Beach campground if you need to be there early for a fishing that that can be a plus. Cons: Loop road needs a re-pave or a good patch job, it is really ruff in places. Some sites have poor privacy. Noise was an issue for us during the daytime, fortunately not as bad at night. No hook ups on the westside. Also you will have to drive down to Grayland if you want a road approach to drive out on the beach. There is a road and a parking area for the beach, at one time the road lead al the way to the beach there at Twin Harbors but it was closed, I don't know for sure I'd guess close to 30 years ago, not sure why. read more

Easily my most mediocre camping experience of last year. The only highlight is how beautiful the beach is...camping on the other hand is a living nightmare. If you are in your 20's or 30's and do not plan on camping with children you owe it to yourself to avoid this camp site. Washington State offers so many amazing options for experiencing the out doors and in my opinion the twin harbors camp ground is the absolute worst of the worst. During the height of the summer this campground is packed to the absolute maximum with people a large majority who came to experience the great outdoors in an RV. The toilets are actually grosser than some backpacking compost sites that I have experienced. The rangers were weirdly passive aggressive and the sites offer virtually no privacy whatsoever. Go rent a backpack and avoid a potentially mediocre weekend with the masses. read more

We are having a great time this weekend, site cost is not to high , my 10'x10' tent fits just fine , it is a walk to the beach but the walk is beautiful, about a mile down you can drive onto the beach which was the only reason we came here, when it is quit time here it is really quiet time , I read other reviews that said people are loud all night here as a negative review that aspect was attractive to me because I like to stay up late and I'm a loud person plus I have three kids so when I read the reviews that are negative I thought to myself "loud rough folk ? Staying up late? Having a good time? Dirty loud kids ,covered in s'mores? IM IN!!!!!!!" No not this weekend ! All the sites around mine were silent by 8pm, my wife was telling me and the kids sssshhhhhh from 8 to midnight, guess I just gotta find out when the fun weekends are read more

Our camping experience here was wonderful. Other reviews mention that the bathrooms here are not clean, but our bathrooms were in great shape. We stayed in Campground C, Site #176, and it was perfect! Good privacy and a beautiful spot. You can walk to the beach, which was gorgeous and not too busy even though this was 4th of July weekend. Campground A is closer to the beach but didn't seem to have as much privacy between sites, which is important to me. A few mosquitoes around our site, but a little insect repellant spray and getting the campfire going solved that problem easily. Rangers drive by to check on things regularly and keep the grounds looking good, and they were very friendly. Also, I loved that at night, it was the quietest I've ever experienced at any campground. Maybe we just got lucky, but I have to say this campground was absolutely enjoyable! read more

Some of these reviews crack me up! This is camping, not a hotel. Things are dirty and there are bugs. The park can only control people so much. I understand that there is camping etiquette, but like all other things, there are idiots who don't follow it. Oh, and people steal everywhere, just be vigilant and don't leave your stuff out...yes, even food. With that being said, I stayed here with a group of six adults and two toddlers this past weekend. Check in was easy and we found our site without any problems. We all had a great time and didn't have any problem with excessive noise. We didn't have a problem with mosquitos either, but then again we sprayed our site prior to setting up camp and we all used bug repellent. Our site was spacious and clean - we easily fit three tents and our two vehicles. Yes, there were instances were there wasn't any toilet paper - the site was completely full and it was in the evenings when I encountered this, but then again it says on the website to bring your own. The showers are token run - 1 token = $0.50 = 3 minutes, but they were hot with good water pressure. Yes, I agree that there could be more ranger presence, but from what I could tell, it is run by a handful of VOLUNTEERS, so you can't really expect much. Our only gripe about that was that due to the dry conditions we weren't allowed to have open flames/camp fires, but we saw a couple of people who didn't follow the rules, but the rangers didn't shut them down. The section where we stayed was very family friendly and we didn't have a problem with loose dogs. Very close to the beach, which is awesome. Overall a good experience. Would I come back - yes. read more

Very nice State Park, lots and lots of spaces . Clean bathrooms and showers. I just don't understand the deal with having to use tokens ??? What do I do with the 3 left over and I'm from out of town ??? I gave them to our neighbors. The must have a reason but I can't figure it out . read more

Beware of rain when camping here - flooding is pretty prevalent, as the camp is located on a marsh. Our site was 1/3 udder water, which made for a less than happy time. It is awesome though, having the ocean so close, which was a treat for the dog. Restrooms were freshly painted, and they had facilities for cleaning pots, pans and clams! read more

The cabins are wonderful and well kept and its just a short walk to the beach. Cabin areas do have fire pits and electricity and shared showers and bathrooms. read more

First time coming here and it was an overall pretty good experience. There was a pretty long line when we got there at 645 pm but the woman checking us in was so sweet and helpful, even gave us some pointers on the grounds. Our campsite was pretty empty and clean when we go there which was nice. There was absolutely no privacy though which is a bit upsetting at 40$ a night but it was okay. It is quite noisy being by the road though. (i could see the cars through the bushes) I never used the bathrooms or showers so can not rate those fairly. About a 1/2 mile walk from the beach which is tough for some kids. TONS of mosquitoes so bring bug spray and lots of it! read more

Okay maybe the 3 star is unfair - but it was based on the weather and the fact that we felt like neighbors were on top of each other. My friend thought we could have camped in our back yard. At any rate, they kept the place clean. They did have a sign up that there was high theft. I loved the short walk through a semi forested area to the beach. Lots of agates and sand dollars. People with children seemed to really love it. This park is split in two so make sure you book a place closest to the water. read more

1976: Three 21-year-old girls go to Chelan State Park, arrive at 10 pm just as the gates are closing. They have driven 3.5 hours to get here. They set up tents and are visited by 3 guys at a neighboring campsite who bring beers and loud voices. 15 minutes later the park ranger arrives and all kids are out on the streets at 10:30 with no place to go and no concerns, from the ranger, whether they have a place to go. There is a NO TOLERANCE policy even though the girls were not drinking beer nor talking loudly. 2010: 35 years later is a whole new state of affairs at campgrounds. State parks are now where you come if you want to get rowdy, drink underage, carouse around after dark and make noise until all hours day and night. AND, the great thing, no one stops you. Set up camp and went to bed. At 1:00 am on a Friday night I had had enough of the whooping and hollering of a campsite 5 sites down. Yes, we all like to let off a little steam, but with the density second to Woodstock at this campground, some consideration for your neighbors is hoped for. I went to the guard station. No one there. There was a phone number to call. I call and get a voice mail. I call again 10 minutes later and get a voice mail again? Why have a phone number no one answers? With 300 campsites and at least 1,000 people, there is no after hours phone number? No one patrolling the park? Nothing? So I see to call 911 if an emergency. Well this isn't an emergency, but...this crowd is truly rowdy and one wonders when the guns might come out. So far, there are horns honking, yelling, beer bottles clanking. So I call 911. I see a car come through about 1/2 later and the noise subsides a bit then starts up again. At 6:00 am the next morning, the children next door are riding skateboards and the parents yelling at them to quiet down (is there an irony here?). So all in all about 3.5 hours sleep. A nice older ranger, on August 27, rides around the car with another ranger and asks me if I am the one who called. He listens to my story, seems sympathetic and moves on. Saturday night is a repeat. I once again call Bob Ault, or whatever his name is, who is the contact number listed on the door. And once again I get no answer. And I call 4 or 5 times more. So I once again call 911 and see no cars or no response this time. The noise goes on until 3:00 am. I am awakened by noise at 7:00 the next morning. Now I have had a total of 7 hours sleep over two days when one would normally get 16. My hair looks like a wild woman after two days of no showers and I go to the guard station and blow a cog. 1) Bob, the ranger, is in and obviously displeased that I called him two nights in a row. He puffs his chest out to show me what an important guy he is. I guess 911 called him and got him out of bed after working all day as well. He tells me about all the hours he works and that he is working round the clock. SUGGESTION: Sorry the hours are so bad, but if you don't like the job description, do something else or talk to your superior. But don't bitch to the customer (a camper paying to stay in the park and helping pay your salary). 2) Bob tells me he drove through both nights and told the campers to be quiet. Perhaps you might drive through once, then drive through a bit later, if you have a situation. No...Bob goes back to bed and the noise starts up again. SUGGESTION: You give the campers ONE warning. If they start up again after the warning, they are kicked out. You get irritated at the noisy campers, not the campers filing complaints and making you do your job. 3) Bob goes on about how noise is all due to budget cuts. Not enough staff. This "not getting enough funds" argument is getting old. Doctors don't make what they used to, lawyers can't get jobs after 6 years at an Ivy League school. I do twice as much work and work longer hours than I ever did. SUGGESTION: Suck it up Bob. This is the new economy. We all work harder for less money. 4) The bathrooms were a pigsty. No toilet paper at 8:00 am, sanitary trash bins overflowing, filthy toilet bowls. And we have two rangers driving through the campsite at 8:00 in the morning. How about one of them cleaning up? Camping fees are $20 which is about $6,000 per night or $12,000 over the weekend if all the campsites are filled. Out of this,can't you hire one $10 an hour worker all day to take care of the restrooms and trash in the complex? Or have one of the rangers patrol and someone else clean. Take at page from the forest service campgrounds which are all pretty clean and tidy. If you are looking for a place to commune with nature and have a peaceful setting, this is not (at least not in a tent) the place. If you want to go a campground with a population that rivals a 3rd world country, along with boom boxes, parties until dawn and beer bottles clanging, this is your slice of heaven. read more

We camped here for 25 yrs and loved it!! Now they jacked the price up, got rude workers, and u cant park a trailer anywhere in the park except a few crammed together spots that are not family friendly! Will not camp here ever again! read more
