Twin Lakes is a very well maintained local county park and is truly great in every season. There are paved paths around the lakes, a trail that branches off and is great for bikes, and other wooded trails and horse trails. You can fish, walk, jog, hang, take your dog, rent pavilions or the newer enclosed building, get family photos done, utilize the expansion area with an amazing playground, skate park and dog park. Beautiful park with a great amphitheatre for outdoor concerts in the summer. Some benches are provided but you can bring your own chairs or a blanket. Restrooms are clean although there are only 2 stalls in the Ladies Room which leads to long lines. read more

I recently visited Twin Lakes Park for a Saturday morning walk. I've been to Twin Lakes in the past and it's always been a peaceful park to visit. The pathways are clean and the park itself is spaced out well. I believe the distance around each of the lakes is at least one mile. They also have pavilions, some wooded areas, jungle gyms, and a skate park. Their restrooms are also always clean. This is definitely a nice park to check out for walking or a family reunion and anything in between! read more

I was at the expansion area today, which is here: 40.31992° N, 79.48660° W This is a great area for kids birthday parties. There are a few large picnic groves and a large playground very close. Plus ample grassy areas for the kids to run around and have fun. The kids today were continuously running the picnic tables to the playground and back, having a blast. Twin Lakes is always a great place to go in the evening hours. It's a nice quiet place to take a walk with the family. During the summer, the paddle boat rentals are a blast. You can catch some large, small mouth bass in the lower lake around the shoreline opposite of the boat house. The newer walkways are really nice and easy to access. read more

Perfect place to visit all year round. Every time I am here I discover something new. Its a shame that I overlook coming here as often as I do. The walking path around the lakes weaves through a large wooded area, and opens up to views of the twin lakes. Picnic pavilions, park benches, play areas, and other resting spots are plentiful all throughout. Paddleboats are available for rental and fishing is permitted. Its great to see others enjoying the recreational opportunities this park offers. 4 star rating vs 5 is due to the overall level of maintenance of the park. What a lovely park! We visited here while on a long weekend in Greensburg area. There is ample parking, a lovely 1/2 mile trail around the lake, and the tall trees provide lots of shade. The grounds are well maintained with multiple pavilions, and a nice war memorial. Don't miss this lovely spot! read more

March for Parks is an annual event held at Twin Lakes to support our county parks. It has grown every year since its inception. Some people organize a team or others may participate individually. Either way, the monies raised goes to improving the local county parks and trails. This year, one improvement at Mammoth Park will be replacing the giant slide. The organizers did a great job this year by having raffles, silent auction, providing breakfast and lunch, pop-up bike sale, face painting and games. There was a nice representation of sponsors with nice giveaways. A donation of $25.00 gets you a t-shirt. Bring your furry friend and they get a cool scarf. When registering, you can designate where you would like your donation to go or chose "as needed ". I do enjoy this event as it does remind me that winter will be leaving us and spring is around the corner. Hope to do the March again next year. read more

This review is limited to the annual Westmoreland County Arts and Heritage festival held yearly in July. Twin Lakes park is a beautiful park with paddle-boating. I got to see a lot of that on the lake the event surrounded. I learned they also have fishing here. Please note there are two regular restrooms in this area. One is by the boathouse and the other closer to the boardwalk. All throughout the park were port a johns to accommodate the crowds. Due to the size of the area we were only able to see one of the lakes. This annual event is well organized with low cost shuttle buses taking you from various points in Greensburg. If you prefer to park onsite then it is best to come early and you will end up paying $5.00 or $10.00 depending where you enter. You'll end up on the grass with a host of small harmless flies surrounding you as you exit. We decided to park on site and from there worked our way into the park. All along we saw various crafts, strolling entertainment, live concerts at various venues and interspersed-plenty of food to eat. They even have a games area for children as well as face painting and other kids activities. As we walked and looked at the various vendors we kept getting lost because no one had a map to give us. We were told to get it at the entrance. We finally did luck out towards the festival headquarters in the center of the park we found an information booth and got the map we needed along with directions. Decision time where to eat-Finally settled one the "awarding winning" Maryland authentic crab cake and shrimp spot with one of those lines that give you numbers before you get your food. When it was our turn I was debating between the whole fried crab itself or the crab cake sandwich. With their recommendation I took the latter but should have had the former. The crab cake sandwich was okay however, we ordered a side of shrimp tater tots on a skewer. They were served hot and literally to die for! Full sized shrimp breaded and very crunchy! The place sets up a lot of picnic tables in the shade so you can eat in comfort. After we ate we took a walk up the boardwalk to a beautiful gazebo that sits near the middle of the lake. On the other side they were having a civil war reenactment but we just enjoyed soaking in the beauty of the lake and being able to look right down into the water from the middle of the gazebo. We loved looking at the interesting crafts-a few of the vendors have been to the Pittsburgh Arts Festival so we glanced at them and headed on. I was very touched by a local artist who makes coloring books for elderly people but found folks were buying them for children since it told 1900 history in an easy to understand format. I got one of those books for myself and picked up a book for my husband on the Ligonier Valley. Now for dessert-I had my eye on Sand Hill berries raspberries since I had past it so that was the place we went to. They were homemade desserts fresh from their farm. I ordered a raspberry filled shortcake with a soft crust and whipped cream. My husband had blackberry pie. Both of these desserts were reasonable and believe me these were outstanding. This place alone is worthy of 5 stars so I hope I come across it again in my future visits to this area. This event gets packed fairly quickly and as a result you lose signal reception strength and are not able to use your phone as you would like. I have had this same problem in other areas jammed with people especially concerts. We weren't able to see all of it because there is extensive walking but what we did see made for an enjoyable day. Being near the lake, having misting stations, and getting a map finally to help us made it a day just to get out and have fun. Twin Lakes is located in Westmoreland County not far from Greensburg, PA. If going to the festival it is usually held the 1st weekend in July but could vary. read more

A nice place for families, fisherman, or first dates. The facilities are usually clean. The lakes are nice though sometimes over crowded. The fishing is good but more for fun then to catch anything big to keep and eat. Besides the park near the lakes they have other facilities like a skate park, dog park, and a jungle gym and other items at a little distance from the lakes. We enjoy this spot the best to relax and have a picnic with the kids. Overall a nice place to visit with family and friends. read more

Twin Lakes Park - Upper lake - Parks Near Me - Greensburg, Pennsylvania

I am there almost every day to walk our dog. The upper lake is about one mile around with a paved path. Because some of the pavers shift over time, it probably isn't the best place to ride a bike. A nice playground for kids on the upper lake as well. The lower lake is about 2 miles around and also features a boat house with some paddle boat rentals available, a few activity center building, performance stage and much more. The rock ledges on each lake are popular with those who like to fish. The park also now connects to Little Crabtree Trail which is a 6-foot wide crushed limestone trail that is about 1.5 miles long through the woods. read more

I stumbled upon this park almost three yrs ago and have loved it ever since!!! The park consists of 2 lakes (upper and lower), one walking trail, which goes from the upper to the lower level. Perfect for getting some exercise to walking your dog. Its very peaceful there, which I greatly enjoy. Also, If you want to have a get together with friends or family, this is the place to do it!!! many picnic areas to choose from and lots of room to run around!!! You can also go paddle boating on the lower lake, which will set you back about $6.00 an hour per boat. I love going there just to do that. This is a great place to take the family to get out of the house and enjoy a nice walk (easy to use level paths), let kids play at a playground, go fishing, or eat a picnic lunch or order from their small "cafe". Rent a paddle boat and see the park from the water. They also have a great festival every year in July. The thing I like the least is the lack of a real bathroom facilities. They really need to fix that issue. This is a great place, but that can be a major turn off. So just be aware and visit anyway. It's so close to downtown Greensburg and Westmoreland Mall. I love Twin Lakes! There seems to be one problem. Especially on the wooded side of the lower Lake. There is a deer tick infestation. Even if your dog, providing you're walking your dog, has taken flea & tick prevention, ticks will not die until they bite the dog... hence they can get on people very easily. DEET is an excellent mosquito repellent, but it is a fairly poor tick repellent. I suggest if you have children, don't let them roll down the hill. Don't let them play in the leaves or high grass. And keep them out of the mulch. These are places where ticks live the most. Always check your children, and yourself for ticks before and after you leave. Keep tweezers on hand always. (The most dangerous ticks are the size of a poppyseed. They engorge-grow quickly. And by the time you may find them they could be larger, and have already infected the host/person bitten.) Also remember that after a rain the water will roll down the hill sides onto the walk way. In that water flows ticks along with it. And being the fact that the walkway is paved with bricks, they get stuck between those bricks and it's actually a very comfortable place for them to be. And oh man do they love to congregate on rocks! So when I think of Twin Lakes I think, "What a beautiful place! I love it!" And I hope to get there this week! But like a lot of this area we live in, as far as Pennsylvania goes, Lyme disease and the coinfection's that come with it make up for 40% of all cases in the United States. Westmoreland and surrounding counties are the epicenter. So to the regular walkers, runners, fisherman and people who just like to spend a long day, I have put a link to an alternative insecticide that you can use directly on your clothes (and clothes only.) I love this park. It's clean, pretty, and I've never had any sort of issues with any other patrons.

We stumbled into this place a few years ago on our way to someplace else, attracted because it was the site of an annual arts festival. We had a great time at the festival and returned on another occasion with our children for a picnic and boat rental. The park itself is very well-maintained, and very clean, with a variety of terrain for different activities, some shade and plenty of places to catch sun. The rental staff was polite and helpful. All in all, it's a nice place to go kill an afternoon. read more

I have visited many times in the past 10 years, and have always had an enjoyable time as it is generally clean, the rest rooms are maintained, and the trash containers are emptied on a regular basis.
