Wandering around Taos with kids, they wanted something for THEM to do/see. Toy stores are a parent's worst nightmare, so this place got clever and created a whole community space and multiple playground spaces for kids. As a result, you either feel compelled to buy something or definitely drop a few bucks in the donation bucket. They also have an indoor play area upstairs that is more geared toward smaller kiddos (definitely 8 and under). The outdoor and indoor toy shop areas are so quaint and lovely. Great free play place for kids in downtown Taos adjacent to a toy store in what seems to be a historic building. I wish that every toy store would have a playground like this. My toddler was scolded by a shop keeper in a swanky store nearby for touching too many things, so I'm grateful we could come here for him to tire himself out. read more

If I could give them 6 stars, I would. The store itself is crammed full of a great selection of toys, coloring books, etc...but this shop get the double thumbs up because of the playgrounds. There are multiple playing areas for kids of varying ages. My little ones are 4 and 2, so they got to enjoy the sand pit & wooden tree house with slide. The older kids had 2 jungle gyms which were covered in mesh for their safety. There are bikes, a photo opt & some chairs for parents as well. Definitely make this a stop if you're in town with little ones! :) read more

I was vacationing in Taos and went to Twirl Toy Store without any kids -- but felt like a kid the entire time. Coolest toy store ever! I'm San Francisco and we don't have a place that has the delight factor that this cute shop has. The experience starts from the outside -- where you're greeted by a ride-on duck. When you enter the store -- you're transported to nether, nether land -- totally sucked in by the classics, the silly, the whimsical. That's another way of saying wooden toys, Lego, fake moustaches, penguin pop-guns, and rainbow wigs. There's something for every kind of kid -- princess types, crafters, geeky science experimenters, builders, and those still breast feeding. And of course toys for nostalgic adults. The shopkeeper was very welcoming. She didn't mind at all when my girlfriends and I HAD TO try on the costumes! Pirate hats, dinosaur heads, rabbit ears, Spartan helmets. We looked so cool. I'm a good auntie and purchased designer bandaids for my nieces. The shopkeeper offered us free kiddie tattoos and most importantly a glass rock so we could throw it into the wishing well before left. The wishing well -- is more like a grotto -- where gnome families reside. I closed my eyes, wished that my now teenage son doesn't get into any car accidents this year, and threw the glass stone into the water. Thank you Twirl Toy Store for an enchanting time. read more

This is a very cool toy store. First of all the selection of toys is great. The toys are top notch, and not just the noise makers that you find in so many different toy stores. We went into the store to find some new toys for 8 month old twins that we know, and we found some great options. The store is beautifully organized by age group, so finding what you are looking for is a breeze. In addition this store really is about the kids. When you walk out the back door, there is the greatest play structure ever. There are also other toys, trikes and more to try out. This is a great playground for kids. Mine (7&11) had a lot of fun in outdoor play area. Outdoor area is free! They ask for a donation but I recommend going inside and buying some of their toys. They are a bit pricy but all toys are educational, unique and super cool. We visited on a whim because we were passing through on a road trip and kids were glad we stopped. read more

This is our third visit to this store, we went twice on this last trip to Taos. This is one of the VERY few kid-friendly and kid-geared things to do in Taos, so once you add in the fantastic play area in front it was a must-see stop. They had a great collection of puzzles, and we found a few nice items for an upcoming birthday party. We also got a mini colander which my daughter can use to wash her blueberries and help in the kitchen. We participated in a "build your own sock bunny" art class they held upstairs (Thursdays 3pm) which was pretty cool (and free, except for a tip). There's a pond indoors with fish, and little rooms that lead out from the main entrance with their own themes. Good find, wish we had one of these closer to us. read more

My review should be taken with a grain of salt because I didn't purchase anything, have no clue about prices, and had little interest really in what they were selling; but that's mostly because my daughter's seven months and has no use for toys plus I don't want her being strung out on toys by the time she's two. BUT, I was so impressed by the little play area in the back here. So cool. Again, my daughter was too young to even enjoy the little paradise for kids they have here, but as I sat on a bench with my daughter in my lap watching other children have a blast, I realized that we just have to return here in about a year and a half to let her run wild. Love this place. Love it. You walk in here and it's a discovery around every corner. I am 38 years old and I wanted to buy everything to play with, it's just that fun. The toys, puzzles, and games are all in the discovery type and imagination type genre, so kids are encouraged to play and imagine with the toys you buy here. We fell in love with all of the baby toys (expecting in July). The hubby had to drag me out of there before I bought everything. Seriously, there's even a wishing well in there with koi and a huge playground out back. It made me want to be a kid again. They have a members club you can sign up for as well and the staff was so friendly. We will definitely make this a must-stop when we come down to Taos. read more

We found this kids place on Yelp. It's an indoor/outdoor kids fun place. A kids store of cool finds. We purchase 2 of the Smithsonian "World of Wonder" & "Endless Explorations" books. We also purchased 3 "Geodes". Hoping we'll find awesome crystals inside when cracking open. Our 5 yr old asked for 3 magic stones to toss in their large goldfish pond in the store. We connected to their Free wifi & we all enjoyed ourselves. There's a child's climbing outdoor maze. A great place to visit if you have children/grand children. read more

The place was so dirty I didn't want my children to touch anything. Big kids were running crazy around the playspace not looking out for the smaller children. Then on the way out my kids played with some of the toys (my kids didn't know the toystore wasn't part of the play area) and they got yelled at.
