For starters, The Nutcracker, put on by UNCSA, is an absolute 5 stars. The performances on stage were fantastic. The orchestra was great. The ushers were very friendly and helpful. If you have never seen UNCSA's The Nutcracker then you are missing out. Highly recommend. Of course, it is only during the Christmas season. You can get tickets online and pick your seat from their web site. They do sell snacks and drinks (including wine), at least for The Nutcracker. Also, Nutcracker items are also for sell, They do take plastic. Regarding the Stevens Center. Loved the building. Seating was comfortable. Aisles for the seating are narrow so expect to have to standup to let people by. Two levels, orchestra and balcony levels. I personally have not had a bad seat. Only downside is if you get a big headed giant who sits right in front of you, but this can happen at most venues. So why 4 stars and not 5 for the Stevens Center? 1) The entrance lobby is small. For popular events, it is too small to handle the crowd trying to get in. I will give credit to the staff for efficiently processing the tickets. 2) The orchestra level lobby is also small. Very crowded as everyone is waiting to get in and during intermission. 3) Not enough restrooms to handle capacity crowds. When intermission starts, you better run to the restroom otherwise you can be in a line 20 people deep. Despite the minor downsides, probably due to it being an old historic building, it is a great venue.

Visually, it's beautiful! The art that is scattered around as you walk through the building adds to the museum like atmosphere. The main theatre where the performances take place is gorgeous and feels quite cavernous, however the seating isn't amazing, gorgeous, and it's CERTAINLY NOT cavernous. The seats are crammed together. I didn't measure, so I can't be sure, but I would say they must be significantly closer together, with less legroom than airline seats. Fortunately, the performance was so entertaining, that I was able, to a large extent, to ignore the painful seating.

There is one week left to see "Oklahoma" at the Little Theater of Winston Salem. This Rogers and…read moreHammerstein collaboration played on Broadway for 2,212 performances. My wife and I saw the show last week and the cast, music, and story had us wanting to, (but we restrained ourselves) sing along and stomp our feet. Most will recognize many of the songs but "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" is probably the most recognizable. Once again, as in most community theater shows we've seen in the Triad, the cast is full of amazingly accomplished actors and singers. Curly (Chris Cannon), Ado Annie (Martha Glenn Bowers), Laurey (Rachel Squier), and Arien Pace (Ali Hakim) were perfect in their roles. BUT I have to say the entire cast was fabulous and deserves special mention. Go - you will have a great experience and, like us, will look forward to the next LTWS show.

Located in the heart of downtown you can conveniently grab a bite to eat and walk to the theatre after. There is $5.00 paid parking diagonally across the street. There is a door greeter as soon as you walk up. The lobby is small and cozy with restrooms and a small concession stand for drinks and snacks, including wine. Tickets to their events can be purchased ahead or at the door, but some events sell out quickly. The staff is friendly and direct you to your seats. As for this play, it was both funny and emotional and really made you think about people and their past trauma and emotions. The seats were comfortable but can be noisy when someone gets up during the show to use the restrooms. The production itself was on point and entertaining. I will definitely continue to frequent them and catch other shows. Definitely an affordable night out.

This place is simply amazing!…read more Sure, there might be fancier or bigger venues; but the Sara McMillan Brown Theater (which is home to Studio 1) is friendly, relaxed, and welcoming - much like it's namesake's reputation. And you ABSOLUTELY cannot beat the people who share their talents and their support. (And aren't PEOPLE what folks come to see anyway!?) There is nothing else like Studio 1 in the area. The programming is varied and refreshingly unique. You won't be finding "Oklahoma!" on the schedule, but you will find excellent period dramas, contemporary plays and musicals, underperformed and forgotten classics, musical reviews and recitals, and fun children's shows. Not only is it a place where you can see professional quality shows; but they also offer classes and workshops and other events for people to learn more about the performing arts, develop their skills, network with other artists, and community enrichment programs. They are very involved in the community - hosting fundraisers and other programs at parks, schools, and community events. They are active partners with The United Way and are affiliated with several other charitable organizations such as the animal shelter, disability programs, and senior centers. Studio 1 is more than just a place for taking classes or spending an evening out, it's an entire community of artists, teachers, patrons, and supporters. You would be very hard-pressed to find a more welcoming or inclusive place for lovers of the creative arts.

They make the audition process very easy for people. I wanted to write to comment on the Summer and shorts program. I wanted to say its superb. I am an actor in it. It is really great of Studio 1 to even have this program to begin with. I really applaud them for the way its run as a whole. Those kids are excellent, and i like what the company does for kids with disabilities. Most theater companies alienate kids for having a disability, but Studio 1 (this coming from the kids who im working with) dosnt. They allow them the same opportunity everyone else has. This is a really special company. Please buy tickets from them! Please audition for them! The staff is so great there! Thank you Studio 1 for this wonderful experience!

Upon arrival, set up was easy, prepared, and early. Super friendly service offered but even better was the face painting! I would not recommend Magic by David based on my experience…read more When I first spoke with him about a month before the event, he quoted $300 for the magic show and mentioned an additional $75 for balloon twisting and face painting. I confirmed the $300 and told him I would decide later about the add-ons. He also asked for a $27 booking fee, assuring me that it would be deducted from the total amount. About three weeks later, I called to inform him that I did not want the add-ons. He insisted that I must take them, saying that his assistant would be present for the entire duration and that the package could not be changed. Since the difference was $75, I agreed. He mentioned that with taxes, the total would be $396,--which he had never mentioned before that their will be tax--and requested that payment be made in cash, Cash App or via Venmo, which I found unusual. On the day of the birthday party, as soon as he arrived, he demanded $396 before bringing in his setup. I reminded him that I had already paid a $27 booking fee, but he refused to deduct it, saying that the Booking fee was separate. I ended up paying the full $396 anyway. He had promised a one-hour interactive show to keep all the kids engaged. However, the magic show lasted only about 40 minutes, and the face painter stopped after 30 minutes, leaving several kids disappointed. Altogether, the entire performance was over in less than 40 minutes, far short of what was promised.I've attended several other birthday parties with magicians, and they always allowed all the kids to touch the animals. However, this magician only let the birthday girl and her sister touch the animals, which made other kids unhappy. Additionally, I noticed unprofessional behavior. The tissue roll I had refilled in the morning went missing, and I later saw it with the magician. After the event, it vanished (the magician took it away with him). He was also seen peeking into the children's gifts, even holding one of the return gifts and curiously looking inside, which made me uncomfortable. Overall, this experience was very disappointing. The service was unprofessional, misleading, and not worth the amount charged. I would strongly advise others not to hire Magic by David for their events.
