We spent weeks looking all around metro Detroit for the rignt upholsterer for this work. From the moment I met Tony (the owner), I had a.strong feeling that I had found the right person to oversee and complete this work to my specifications. Tony spent time discussing the scope of the work to be done and examined each piece carefully. I explained that the furniture contained a system of hand tied springs in the foundation, cushions and back and that I wanted the furniture restored with the spring systems included. Many upholstery places no longer work with spring systems and prefer to refurbish furnitire by removimg the springs and using firm foam instead. However, I wanted the unique feel of the spring systems (as well as the durability of the spring systems, which usually last much longer than foam alone) in the refurbished pieces. Tony listened to my requests, examined the furniture and came up with a detailed plan for restoring the furnitire. He gave me an honest assessment of the work to be done and quoted a price for the work, including material costs. Tony consulted with me all through the process because he clearly cared about the outcome of his work. It was wonderful and extremely gratifying to work with a true artisan and expert in his field. Absolutely nothing was left to chance, which I appreciated because I can be a difficult customer to please. During the process there were some changes to the plan that arose, including the need to completely refinish the woodwork on the French Provencal pieces. Tony cared enough about the outcome of this project to make sure this work was done to perfection at an affordable price. My wife and I were truly stunned at the finished quality of the work when Tony delivered our finished pieces. They look and feel incredible. I would recommend Tony and his remarkable craftsmen enthusiastically and without reservation. This high level of service and quality work is increasingly rare today. He was also very nice and highly professional. 07/22/26 is the Day my Life changed for the Worst. I got referred to John's Upholstery from a Shop…read morein Plymouth that usually does our Woodwork. Met Mel, who started out as a Great Conversation, he assured me everything would be done in two weeks tops. As a Moving Company General Manager I make promises to our Customers based on what I am told. So I told the Customer exactly what Mel told me. Two Weeks your 4 Dining Room Chairs and 2 Bench Seats will be done. After the 1st Week I called to check progress, notice upon calling multiple times no one answers the phone. So I set aside time to personally go in to check progress. First thing I notice Mel isn't there and the Bench & Chairs aren't Upholstered or even touched. I leave, come back a couple days later, mind you we're onto the 2nd week now. Nothings been touched, I speak with Mel who originally quoted me $1200 to $1500 to which I told our Customer. Upon asking Mel what's the holdup, what's going on, he replied the place he gets Vinyl from is running behind in changed there prices. $1200 to $1500 turns to $2600. Know am extremely Upset. 1st you lie about the Cost, 2 weeks in you change the Rates. So I tell him to staple the chairs back up so I can take them somewhere else, he says he can't do it today, I can pick them up tomorrow. I leave extremely pissed. He calls me while am driving to tell me he made a Mistake it's only $1600 now. I call the Customer she ask me when will the chairs actually be ready. I click over, ask Mel. He says next Friday, it's Wednesday. Today's Date as of this Review is 08/25/26. The Chairs still isn't done, in Mel is now saying the Vinyl hasn't come in yet. In the Chairs & Benches will be ready Next Week. Notice the pattern? Got the Customers Deposit already. My Warning to anyone dealing with this Upholstery Shop. Read ALL the Reviews. This isn't the 1st time this has happened. It's a Review on here, if I've read it, I promise I would've never subjected our Customer to this Nonsense. I'm taking time out of my Extremely Busy Day to warn people. This Shop is the Worst of America in a Disgrace to the City of Livonia, where our Company also is located. As of 09/10/26 I physically go in John's Upholstery in pickup the 4 Chairs & 2 Bench Seats. Had to ask a guy who works there can he staple the chairs closed, because Fabric & Thread is hanging out. On Top of that, I find out Mel is the Owner SMH. He stopped answering my Calls & still has the Customer $300 Dollar Deposit. You can't make this stuff up. When I picked the car up I noticed multiple dents in the trunk lid. After much hassle and threat of legal action the owner agreed to pay the body shop to fix the trunk lid. If that wasn't enough when I tried to attach the boot cover, which goes of the convertible top when it is down, it did not fit. The shop refuses to provide me with a cover that fits properly or refund the money I paid. The owner is obstinate and aggressive. I would not recommended using them at all.

They did three Pearsall chairs for us and the communication and workmanship were poor. Pictures below speak for the quality of work. We took a pair of rocking Pearsall chairs to them and Richard told us that he needs to open the chairs before he can give us an estimate and he would get back to us by the mid week with an estimate. He also mentioned that for one chair, the foam probably doesn't need to be replaced. I asked him for the extra cost for replacing the foam and he mentioned that $85. I asked him to replaced the foam on both chairs as I wanted them to look the same. We didn't hear from him by midweek for the estimate so we contacted them at the end of the week. We were told that they have already finished both chairs. We picked them up and they have several issues. He has drilled a hole in one chair and you can see the wood split. He also didn't replaced the foam on one of the chairs so the two finished chairs look very different from each other. The other Pearsall chair that they did for us has several supporting brackets and screws completely visible. Very disappointed in them.

Camilla (spelling?) helped us pick out fabrics and even talked us through what the different things mean and what ratings would be good for a dining room etc. they were quick, friendly, professional, and I feel went above and beyond. Truly couldn't be happier.
