So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. One gesture that I thought was just so classy, was the owner called in the middle of the move to check-in on how things were going - I really appreciated that. I worked with a different moving company 2 years ago that left me scarred for life with how rude and unprofessional they were. I ended up having to finish the job myself (moving my giant couch up four flights of stairs), so when I knew I was moving again, I did my due diligence and sought out a few quotes. Another company quoted me almost $800 and required a 3 hour minimum for the job!! $800 seemed steep and I knew the job wouldn't take that long... Along came Bookstore Movers who quoted me a reasonable $470 minimum for two hours of work and a maximum of $680 for 3.5 hours of work (price breakdown: $140 per hour with 2 hour min. plus a $190 truck fee). I received a quote within a few hours of requesting it. There was no deposit required and the date was booked. I received detailed emails leading up to the move about FAQs, tips for a seamless move, and the names of my crew including contact info for the crew lead. Abdul (crew lead), Niiwayo "Y.O", and Milly were SO fast and friendly. They wrapped every single item with care in drop cloths and got to moving immediately. Despite the 90 degree heat and a total of five flights of stairs, the job was finished in 2 hours. I was SO impressed. I was so traumatized by my last move that I literally had to walk away while they moved the couch in but before I knew it, I got a text from my boyfriend telling me they had fit it through the door and our living room was all set up. I was so relieved and happy to work with them. If and when we move again, (hopefully not anytime soon, lol), I will 100% be contacting Bookstore Movers... and you should too!

After reading reviews here, reflecting on my own experience with A.M. a few weeks ago and considering my knowledge of moving and packing I have to give Available Movers a full 5+ stars! If you are shopping for moving companies and you have minimal moving experiences or even none at all. Take some time to educate yourself on the process first and so your expectations are planted correctly in the first place. Originally I got an $80 p/h estimate with a $125 service fee. Ultimately I was charged $85 p/h but only a $110 service fee. The difference is negligible and I did not care about the difference. I have to also add that my original estimate was for a weekend that had already passed and not the same as my move out date wound up being. I'm particular and as I've pointed out already have a lot of moving experience. What I don't have is limitless strength and a 26' box truck. I did all the packing and cleared out small stuff and boxes in the weeks before the move. Available Movers came in moved all my big heavy stuff, I wanted them specifically for no packing, no disassembly and no re assembly. The stairs were a burden and take tons of time away but even still they got me out and back in a place 2 miles away in a little less than 4 hours so I was more than happy to pay for the 4 hours and tip the guys! I would definitely call Available movers again and coordinate another one of my moves with them! Thanks guys!

We chose JK Moving because of its reputation for quality and care, which makes our experience all…read morethe more disappointing. Our belongings were loaded in Chantilly, VA, on May 30. The moving truck arrived already more than one-third full with another customer's shipment. About five hours into loading, it became clear that everything would not fit. The driver asked to place some of our belongings on the truck's exterior tailgate platform. I reluctantly agreed only to outdoor furniture because, by that point, we had little choice. Our belongings were being moved into storage, and the crew knew this. When we finally unpacked several weeks later, we discovered just how far the crew had gone to make everything fit. Without our knowledge or permission, at least five wardrobe boxes had been unpacked. Professionally cleaned and pressed clothing was removed, rolled in packing paper, and stuffed into open spaces throughout the truck. More than 40 dress shirts, numerous formal dresses, and nearly all of our hanging clothes were left badly wrinkled. We also discovered that a box of clothing had been transported outside the truck, despite my specifically saying that no clothing should be placed there. The crew also dismantled nearly every piece of furniture that could be taken apart--including items that clearly did not need to be. Table and chair legs were removed, a small kitchen table was disassembled down to its hinges, and even the shelves inside our refrigerator were removed so boxes could be packed inside it. Because our belongings were delivered into storage rather than our home, no one from JK returned to reassemble these items, leaving us to spend many hours doing it ourselves. Ironically, the estimate and price we paid included delivery into our new home and reassembly of everything the crew took apart. This experience left us with the impression that many of these decisions were driven by the lack of space on the truck rather than by proper care of our belongings. Unpacking our clothing without permission, transporting items outside the truck after we specifically objected, and unnecessarily dismantling furniture created a tremendous amount of extra work and frustration. Based on our experience, the level of care we received fell far short of the premium service we expected from JK Moving. I have sent them photos along with this review and haven't had any response.
