One of the best times I've ever had out on a charter boat. Even if we didn't catch fish, this would have been a great day. Matt, the captain really knows his stuff and is an avid fisherman. He was almost just as excited as we were with each fish we caught. We went on the boat in the afternoon for about a 4 hour trip and caught 4 keeper salmon (2 Chinook and 2 Coho. One above 20lbs) and probably got another 4 or 5 salmon that were too short. Matt's fishing boat was nice. The inside was comfortable for when we were driving out and back. His fishing equipment was excellent as well. He had tackle and gear to cover all situations. When we started he quickly rigged up 4 rods all using different techniques to see which one would be the most effective. As the fish started hitting he would change the set up of the rods to the most effective technique and caught us more fish this way. After the trip he filleted up the fish for us nicely and bagged them up for us. We had a huge dinner later that night. Nothing is better than fresh salmon. I would highly recommend this charter. Even just being out on the Puget sound without fishing is a great experience. There were great views of downtown Seattle, we saw some dolphins and bald eagles as well. I am an avid fisherman and have fished my whole life and I have been on many charters in the past and this was by far one of the best experiences. read more

My daughter & son-in-law gave me a great Christmas present...a fishing charter outing with Tyee Charters. Being from Wisconsin, this was a new experience for me. Took the trip in late July with my son-in-law. What a great experience Matt, the Captain provided. We caught decent numbers of fish due to his experience. The fishing seemed a bit tough this day, however, when all was said and done, the boat was limited, with lots of bonus fun. Like watching the Orcas go on a feeding frenzy very close to us. Or trying to reel in fish before a seal took it away. Matt is very cognicent of the laws and clearly obeys and explains them. We returned many salmon to the water because they were native. He is also very experienced in knowing how and where to fish, and doesn't necessarily go where the crowd may be. Hats off to this charter for this great experience! read more

This was a really wonderful experience. Scheduling and booking with Matt was easy. He met us in the marina on Bainbridge Island. Working in small quarters in a COVID world is not always easy, but Matt made it comfortable. Our party of four was the only one on the boat. Matt clearly wanted to make sure we CAUGHT FISH and we did; caught our limit of Coho Salmon. Matt was fun to banter with, pretty low keyed, and clearly knows what he is doing. He was happy to clean and fillet our fish when we were done; and we were joined by a harbor seal who clearly has a relationship with him and appreciates the remains that we weren't taking home. My husband, father-in-law and I had a fantastic time with Matt from Tyee Charters. He has been doing fishing charters for 20+ years and it shows. Matt wasn't just there to drive you to a fishing spot and bait your hooks, he worked really hard to help us catch 5 King Salmon and 10 Dungeness crab. He worked the entire time checking the depth, the fish finder, adjusting downriggers, re-baiting and so on. Matt also patiently answered all my questions about fishing in the Puget Sound, down riggers, what type of bait and why... After we came back he cleaned all of the King Salmon and crabs for us. He even taught my husband a great crab cleaning trick. At the end of the trip we walked away with an amazing memories, 50+ pounds of King Salmon and 10lb of Dungeness crab. read more

Went out with a group of friends, Matt was super flexible with our departure times since one of the guys had to be present for his wife's pregnancy check ups. We decided on a 1 PM departure time the night before. He does two runs per day so as a result he ran late on his morning run, not a complaint since he called me 3 hours in advance to adjust the time. We went out at 2 PM and were out for a solid 4 hours. Unfortunately we didn't catch anything, but such is the nature of fishing. That being said while we were out Captain Matt was a wealth of knowledge about fishing and the area. Normally when I've been around any tour guide it was awkward, but with Matt it was great, he kept a natural feel and after about 5 minutes it was like he was one of the guys. We are a bunch of navy boys so its a bit on the "dirtier" side with our conversations but Matt added in with 100% professionalism and was family friendly even though we weren't. He is a true professional and I would recommend 11 times out of 10. I do plan on scheduling many more trips with him. read more

1 star. I called Matt and left a VM. He got back and left a txt saying he could accommodate my crew on the 18th of July, 2017. I txtd back and said ok, just need to confirm with my party (of 5 total). Mind you i called him asking for a range of days so as to HELP him with scheduling.This was on Sunday June 25th, 2017. I told him I needed TWO days max (on or before 6/27/17) to coordinate as we are all converging on Seattle from all over the U.S. and it might take a day or two for folks to get back to me. Here's my BEEF: Matt didn't say it's first come first served because if he had I would have asked for a first right of refusal, i.e. he would txt me and tell me it is time to "fish or cut bait" and to decide. IF HE HAD DONE THIS I WOULD HAVE made my decision immediately and would have booked the trip. I DID NOT KNOW THIS THOUGH. So, I called Matt today 6/27/17 (within the 2 day time frame that i committed to) to tell him it was a GO and he gives me the "too bad so sad first come first serve routine". Hey MATT....I WAS FIRST YOU JERK. All I needed was a txt. Unprofessional and disingenuous. Thanks for nothing. read more

My son and I had a terrific afternoon with Matt. He has a great boat, first-class equipment, and works tirelessly to make sure you have an enjoyable experience and catch fish. Matt knows good spots in the area to fish and moves around as needed. We were catching fish non-stop including a 25-pound king salmon my son caught. We had a great time, caught fish, and I enjoyed talking with Matt, the owner and captain. However, our second (attempted) trip was a complete FUBAR. Matt apparently wrote down my email address wrong, and then gave our spot away. My brother and I didn't figure this out until 4:30 am that morning, when we were actually driving to meet him. That could all be put down to bad luck (though I suspect disorganization also played its part), but what really grated on me was Matt's attitude. He was completely unapologetic, had no suggestions for how to make it right, and kept trying to imply that it was my fault. One star for horrible customer service. There are lots of charter services in Seattle -- my strong recommendation is to use someone else. No point in hanging out on the water with someone who treats customers that way. read more
