Fab little park in Poulsbo!…read more After roaming around downtown, we were looking for a place for the kiddos to blow off some energy. My dad asked around and we were directed here. Parking is bountiful, there's a dedicated lot, and failing that, ample street parking. The park has a small grassy area where several people had blankets spread out, picnicking and soaking up the sun. There are several picnic tables to sit at and watch the kiddos play. The play structures were well-maintained. My kids had a great time, the other kids there were very friendly and welcoming. I'm glad we stopped by.

You can easily walk to shops on Front street where you'll find pizza, coffee, antiques, art, chocolate, schnitzel and more. A public restroom building in the park was closed during our November visit. The Austin-Kvelstad pavillion is a covered patio that would keep you dry in a drizzle, but is open to the wind. The park sward is intersected by concrete paths, the pavillion and a waterfront boardwalk that extends beyond the bounds of the park along the waterside. The park was busy on a sprinkling November day. Plenty of pups out for a walk with their humans.

The paved road is a tiny ribbon with edges that teeter off into the dirt - not gently sloped. City of Poulsbo Parks and Recreation department has liability here - waiting for the lawsuit shoe to drop. Once inside however, you can enjoy several nature interaction features, even nature solitude, while the children's playground has been revamped as of 2025. The park manages to fit in many things such as the following -- * A designed, interactive, children's educational garden managed by trained "Master Gardeners." Here, tons of produce are grown and donated for charitable food distribution. Imaginative and whimsical garden sculpture will draw surprise delights, and thoughtful plantings offer live lessons of ecology. * A "community garden" with multiple raised growing beds, where citizens rent a "patch" to grow their own fresh vegetables (and it has a compost pile in the back if you want to drop off your kitchen scraps). Rent includes gardening tools, watering hoses, and a generally well-run operation. * A skatepark, basketball courts, picnic shelter with multiple picnic tables for the community to hold events * A fun quirky children's playground with fun swings and slides * A view through the trees and downhill, of Poulsbo's downtown and harbor, flanked on the far horizon by the Olympic mountain range, an excellent place to watch a summer sunset. Sadly the park benches face in the opposite direction from this jaw-dropping view--back towards a worn walkway and old picnic table. The imagination of bureaucracies and their workmen of how people might behold nature and appreciate its grandeur is seriously impaired (such a view of the Olympic Mountain Range and they set up seats facing the opposite direction?!) * A few single-track foot trails into the woods around the perimeter of the flat, artificially planted lawn lead into wooded hillsides and offer shady nooks, rich with bird calls, to escape from the open hilltop monoculture of grass * The central flat expanse of monocultural grass is a horrendous ecological desert, a big zero--but fits the American settler desire aesthetic of claiming land into the wide horizon. (Beware the many entitled dog owners who run their pets without leashes on this wide open space, yet another City liability -- waiting to become a law suit.) This park is used by many people and is wonderful for people watching, while still having space for your own private experience of communing with nature.

On Saturdays it is open and more can be learned. Even the Park House is an old Farmhouse restored with some history to it. Seems Well Kept, Nice Equipment and the restrooms are clean. There is a phone number posted in the Covered area in case you want to reserve it for future dates. Close & easy to get to when you don't have time to go far.

The cabin gives a glimpse into life from a long time ago. Finally, we reached a small parking lot in a wooded, grassy area on a hill that overlooked the water. There was a stairway down to the water. The stairway has seen better days and given how slippery it was, a number of us decided to stay on the hill. Some of our group ventured down on the floating dock which was about as wobbly as the stairs. The dock was a nice setting for some beautiful pictures! This is a nice park for a picnic, to eat your lunch in the car, or to have a few minutes of peace to yourself.

This was first time playing disc golf and this course offered plenty of challenge. I wasn't…read moreexpecting the terrain to be so "hilly" but it made the game more fun. The course is fairly well labeled and the trails are pretty easy to navigate. I recommend sending someone in your group to be a spotter before your first throw though as it is easy to lose a disc here. This was my wife's first time as well and she loved being out on the trails. The entire course is roughly 1.6 miles and almost entirely par threes: I think there was one par four. Overall I would suggest this to anyone living in Poulsbo who is looking for something fun to do outdoors.

We wanted to visit this place really bad and I take full responsibility for not researching it…read morebetter but once we got there we found out it costs $25 per person to go in, the pictures I saw of the grounds seem to indicate it's probably worth every penny but we ended up turning around and driving to a nearby park with amazing views for free. Maybe I'm naive, I'm definitely on a budget but I think nature should be free or at least more affordable for all to enjoy, the very nice employee let us know that they do have some days when entry is free or pay what you can but it's some special day like the 3rd Thursday of the month but only if there's a full moon and raining.
