We're new to town and have been trying new places people have recommended. This place did not disappoint. As soon as you walk in they greet you and it feels very homey and welcoming. It reminded me of back home (South Texas). The whole staff were very friendly and nice. They were very patient as it was our first time. We got some mexican sodas, two pounds of barbacoa, two cups of menudo, warm corn tortillas, flour tortillas, and some salsa verde. Everything was so delicious. The green salsa isn't too spicy it's just the right amount of heat to where you can still enjoy it. The tortillas were so good too. The barbacoa was definitely some of the best I've had. I will say if you're not a big fan of messes maybe pay the extra fee so they can cut the barbacoa for you. Overall we enjoyed the food and the prices weren't too bad for the portions. I will add to show up early as they do get busy and sell out quick. Next time we go we will definitely try their tamales. read more

Best tamales in the area, but you better get there early in the day. I just missed the last spinach and cheese, man in front of me got the last dozen. Luckily there was one dozen pork left. These are the worst tamales I have ever tasted. Dry, very dry! No flavor. I can tell machine made by the way it looks. The lady at the counter admitted they are machine made. I went back to talk to them, to no avail. They said they couldn't do anything. Wasn't given any sauce. Learned my lesson. Always try one before buying. I love their tamales. Every flavor is excellent. Their hot sauce is extra hot, so choose the mild unless you're a dragon.

The Tamales are really good, but a bit small and thin. The look like small rolled tacos. But aside from that they are really good!

Normally wouldn't take the time to do reviews. I'll keep in short, if you're looking for good tamales verdes this definitely not your place. The tamales verde have little to no traces of any sauce ever being there. I was explained that the green sauce "dilutes" as it cooks. Which make of that what you will. As you will see in pictures it definitely dilutes to where you question whether there was ever any to begin with. Which I don't under why complete dilution would ever be risked. Since anyone that has ever had tamales will tell the sauce is all the flavor. They taste as they look. As for the tamales de rajas, these were actually good. However, they were also very tiny. Almost small churro size. But maybe the prices correlated with size. Staff is friendly I must acknowledge so overall my rating is a 2/5. read more

After reading the reviews about the homemade tortillas, tamales and carnitas, I drove 30 minutes to the Tortilla Factory for the flour tortillas. Imagine my surprise when I was told they stopped making tortillas in house sone time ago despite their website making a big deal about the tortillas. I was directed to the refrigerator where a few cold, hard lumps of very small machine made tortillas were sitting on the bottom shelf. I would take Mission tortillas from the grocery store any day over these poor excuses they tried to pawn off on me. After the long drive, I settled for some carnitas and chicken tamales. The next day I unwrapped the carnitas to find about 4-5 tablespoons of congealed fat on the outside of the foil; not very appetizing. Once heated, the carnitas were about a 4-5 on the 10 pt scale but the way they were packed to go definitely left a negative impression. The tamales shocked me; they were the smallest ones I have ever seen, about the length and diameter of a frankfurter. I just threw them away since the filling was so little as to be inconsequential. So, after much anticipation, I add the Tyler Tortilla Factory to my growing list of Mexican food disappointments in Tyler. read more

The corn tortillas were thick and hard. I threw the entire package out after one bite. The flour tortillas were small and mediocre. The majority of them were smaller than the corn tortillas and they tasted 100% like store bought tortillas. The flour tortillas from the Super 1 deli taste more authentic than these did. The only reason they got 2 stars is because the green salsa is phenomenal! For me, it's not worth the drive over there. read more

This is a little hole in wall place in low neighborhood with 4 parking spaces for grab & go food purchase. THE BEST TAMALES & homemade salsas & tortillas, just to die for!! Nicest people ever, very customer service oriented. Call ahead for spicy tamales, they go fast. Grab a Mexican soda while you're there. read more

Good tamales. We especially like the beef, and spinach and cheese tamales. People are helpful. We did not care for the tacos. Since we discovered this place, we have ordered tamales every week. Ive been living in Tyler at least 32 years and I have never had a better tasting tamal anywhere else except for the ones my mother and grandmother made when they were alive ... Rating is the lowest possible. The worst tamales I've ever paid for. I'm not sure if they still sell canned tamales but if they do, I will guarantee they are better than those from the tortilla factory. They were extremely disappointing and after sampling them, we threw most of them in the garbage. An old Tyler tradition, this is the place to go for tamales. It is Tyler Tortilla Factory though, not Tortilla Tyler Factory. Open 6 days a week (closed on Monday!) they have different varieties made to order as well as the usual pork tamales. Awesome tamales. We stopped by and got a dozen of the jalapeno and cheese. When you order, they given you a side of fresh made salsa to top them off. We got the salsa verde which is their medium and it was great as well. The selection includes beef, pork, spinach, chicken and a couple of extra spicy types too. They also sell larger quantities of salsa and both flour and corn tortillas plus a few other items. Call ahead and they will have your order ready when you get there. I can't wait to go back and try some other tamales. Don't plan on eat in, they don't have any tables. We sat in our car and chowed down a few. Delish. Sorry no pics again.
