This is our favorite place to go for any special occasion (or even if we just feel like having a nice date night). I can't count the number of times that I've been, since I first tried the place in 2008 or 2009 (after moving to Tyler from the west coast). Bernard is almost always on hand to keep an eye on his "baby" and I've never had a bad dinner here. (Their lunch menu is a little light on choices, and I'm not a fan of the salad dressing used on the salads at lunch, but it's still a great place to take a client for lunch). Their dinner service is really where they shine though. The food is amazing, the ambiance is perfect for an intimate meal, and they always have amazing specials! (My favorite is when they have lamb... it is simply the best. My husband loves their seafood, but they do EVERYTHING well, and the bread and olive tapinade is so good that it's hard not to fill up on it while waiting for your food.) If you're adventurous, I'd suggest the escargot (after my husband tried it once, he now orders it every time we come here). If you simply want a decadent appetizer, the baked brie is wonderful. They also do a really good French onion soup. I really don't have anything bad that I can say about Bernard's, other than I wish it was open on Mondays. read more

Everyone in my group ordered the salmon and raved about how it was excellent, and the mashed potatoes and side salad were amazing. I had the steak and it was good aside for the fact that I would have preferred more seasoning. I probably wouldn't order the steak again but still, overall very good. Bernard's Mediterranean in Tyler feels like stepping into your grandmother's house, especially in the cozy wine cellar room on the left. The Veal Nicoise is a must-try, along with the escargot and stuffed mushrooms--absolutely delicious! While I wasn't a fan of the red stag dish, the dim lighting, hospitable service, and owners personally checking on guests make for a warm and welcoming experience. As real aficionados of Mediterranean food, we were all set to enjoy schwarma, fatoosh, shish kebab, etc., but imagine our surprise when no Mediterranean dishes appeared on the menu! There must be a story here. However, the restaurant was not without its upscale appeal, with white tablecloths even for lunch. The single server was quite attentive, even though obviously in high gear among the eight or so occupied tables. The lunch menu consisted of perhaps a dozen classic dishes, mostly with Italian influence, and the prices were definitely in line with a good value. I chose the redfish special, which was very tasty, but the star of the show was the plentiful crusty bread, served hot in a basket along with a wonderful tepanade. Yes, we had to order more of the wonderful bread. My partner had the veal piccata, which was a huge disappointment. The veal was shockingly chewy, and she had to leave a portion that was cut too thick, as it was just too tough to manage. The other missing element was the customary lemon flavor in the sauce. I can't imagine what happened here; this seemed so incongruous with the rest of our very satisfactory experience. read more

A couple of weeks ago we went back to Bernard's after a 4 year hiatus. We had an inattentive waitress during the days of covid which just soured us. Fast forward to lunch in August 25...we have enjoyed it twice this month. The service has been so good and the food has been delicious as could be. We back baby! read more

My wife and I and another couple were in this restaurant this past November celebrating a birthday. We experienced a blatant fraudulent, misleading, and deceptive business practice of this establishment. Primarily based on THEIR website (www.Bernards.com) somewhat reasonable menu prices, we decided to visit this establishment. Upon being seated and ordered drinks, we discovered the prices on THEIR website and the prices on THEIR menu were vastly different. Just one example is their Filet Mignon Bearnaise was advertised at $37.95 on their website and their menu price was $47.95, a 22% difference. All the entries we checked had close to the same price difference. When we asked our waiter about the vast difference, he told us that he spoke to Mr. Bernard (who was in his restaurant at the time) and was told he said he had no affiliation with HIS business's website and the menu prices were the prices we must pay. If we hadn't already ordered drinks, we would have left immediately. At the very least, this is a very deceptive business practice and one that potential customers need to know about. read more

Nice entry - they require reservations as most nights are full; so going in on time sent to bar area - quickly served a glass - we were celebrating 2 birthdays in our group of 4. Easy up front parking nice in the rain for August. Kind of hidden in back area off Broadway - but easily found. Food was just ok; Veal was tough - nice mushroom sauce on it; basic mash potatoes and I opted for asparagus - which was funny 2 spears were served tasty but would not order the veal again. 2 guests got the Halibut - came out as one line of seared just ok; seemed fresh grilled but no taste and was hoping for more of a fillet serving - same veggis - potatoes - last dish was Chicken Marsala - which was basic - again nothing exceptional. Staff was good - very nice and quick. Kept wine flowing - drinks. They did bring out complimentary birthday desserts - nice. read more

Just finished a wonderful anniversary dinner here. Nick and Casey were excellent co wait staff. They saw to our every need. The food was delicious. The bread and tapenade are some of the best I have ever eaten. I loved the "house" creamy Italian dressing on the very crisp salad. My entree was creative and tasty. My husband's steak was cooked exactly as ordered. The restaurant has a very romantic, intimate vib, even though most patrons were there just to eat. The regular menu items are affordable,about the same as Olive Garden and the steak prices compare to Longhorn or Saltgrass. Of course, the specialty items are more expensive, but for a special occasion, acceptable. We highly recommend this restaurant. read more

My first time at Bernard's convinced me of what others have written in reviews: I agree it's one of the top restaurants in Tyler. I enjoyed the atmosphere. It's a good place for a date night, but we did see a large party in the dining room as well. The menu options were surprisingly well-priced. We started with a crab cake appetizer, which I'll get everytime now. It's full of lump crabmeat! I enjoyed the chicken florentine and was glad they accommodated my request for no capers My husband had a salmon dish topped with crabmeat: we BOTH enjoyed his dish too. Bernard's is the BEST place in Tyler! My husband and I have gone here for a date night or special occasions and it's never disappointed us. Very friendly staff and owner, we always feel right at home. I have ordered the scallops twice because they're THAT good. My husband's favorite is the Chilean sea bass. The filet forestiere is also out of this world. But...let's talk about that bread! With the olive oil tapenade...just wow. We probably look forward to this most when we visit. We've tried the fried calamari and stuffed mushrooms as appetizers, both delicious. Tuxedo cake is amazing. Suffice it to say, I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality. Some have commented about the chairs/restaurant needing updates, none of this has ever bothered us, but last night they had a sign on the door that they'll be closed at the end of this month, so I assume they're doing some remodeling. We not only had a lovely dinner, we had a lovely evening. The staff and the regulars at the bar were so welcoming and friendly that it added another layer of delight to the amazing food. To start off we had an Italian amber beer that may be the best amber beer I've ever had, with the perfect rustic bread and olive tapenade. Should have stopped there! Then stuffed mushrooms and rainbow trout stuffed with crab and a sundried tomato sauce. Such generous portions we had to forego dessert and I'm sure the Carmel cheesecake would have been out of this world. The owner even sat down to have a glass of wine and chat with us.
