Wow.... This place is unbelievable! We reserved a moving truck 1 week ago and was given a confirmed truck rental. They called today.... This company totally ruined our move. We in advance of moving, did an online reservation for moving day. Email was exchanged with what we wanted and when. Long winded email just a form document stating blah, blah, blah. Confirmation email from them followed. Day prior to the move I went to their yard to purchase some items and asked if everything was okay with the scheduled pickup of the truck.... Yupp that's right THEY DO NOT HAVE A 1 WAY TRUCK ANYWHERE IN BC!!! I have purchased a home 400 kilometers away and sold my existing home. My closing day is in 2 days and I've hired movers on both ends to load and unload. They gave me a number to call for help... yeah right, help (haha) they repeated the same story NO TRUCK. Because, on the contract it says "there may NOT be a truck you want available that day. But they will call my before 6 as stated on the contract, to give me this information". DO NOT RESERVE A ONE WAY TRUCK FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! It turns out, that most U-Haul locations, including this one, have plenty of vehicles for LOCAL trips only and nothing for a ONE WAY trip. I reserved my (one way) truck 4 weeks in advance to move from Coquitlam to Alberta. The confirmation email stated the following: "at times, the size, location or time you have requested may not be available. In that situation U-Haul is committed to finding a solution" THANK GOD I called them a day ahead to confirm the rental situation. They informed me they had ZERO trucks, of ANY size anywhere on the Lower Mainland for a one way trip and that I would have to travel to Vancouver Island, the Interior or AMERICA to pick up a truck!!!!!!! The lady on the phone was extraordinarily rude, she told me there would have been a disclaimer when I booked!! Yes - had that disclaimer said "our solution to finding your equipment may include you driving to another country to pick up your vehicle" I would have looked elsewhere. The customer service rep was awful - she only softened when I literally started crying on the phone to her. I had someone flying in to help me with the move, my whole house was packed, I had other people moving in - they should absolutely be ashamed of themselves for the way they conduct business. I drive by this Coquitlam U-haul location every day and they always had hundreds of vehicles there, all sizes, shapes, models etc - so I didn't think it would be a problem getting my truck from them.... They almost ruined my move entirely. Luckily I was able to pivot because I had a days warning, if I hadn't called, I would have been blissfully ignorant thinking all was well until they would have called me at 5PM the day before my move informing me that the closest truck they could offer me was a 6 HOUR drive away. Yes - a 6 HOUR drive - THAT was the "solution" they offered me. Honestly, I would never use U-haul again because of this. Reading through other reviews it seems clear this is a persistent issue for users, so please use my experience as a lesson learned, a Cautionary Tale if you will! read more

U-haul Coquitlam damaged our newer a car while putting on a tow hitch. The employee who did the damage was rude. They did admit to 3 parts of the car they damaged; but told us we had to use the one repair shop they decided on... no way. You'll be waiting for over an hour for them to deal with you too. No, we did not go there mid month or end of the month. For your protection take photos of all areas of your car and close up photos of the area they are working on so you can prove everything then go through ICBC. If you're renting a truck they never guarantee they will even have one for you. They will "confirm" then say they don't have a truck for you as it's not a guarantee it's just a confirmation. They will tell you they can't help it if someone rented the truck but didn't bring it to their location. They will not help you get one from another location either. read more

The attendant signing me up took my drivers licence and didn't give it back. I had to get it back when i returned the vehicle. He didn't check the vehicle before i took it out. The fuel level was under their expected level for return. I took a picture of the level for my records. I put fuel in the vehicle before returning the vehicle, bringing it to the level of the initial rental. I bring the vehicle back and the attendant was too busy to check in the vehicle, so he would check it in. Having swept the vehicle out and being confident it was clean. Get the email invoice of a fuel charge and a cleaning fee. absolutely livid. call the location to get resolved and get directed to a central dispatch. drive to the store, a huge waste of time!!! attendant said it was drywall dust. i used the vehicle haul wood, not drywall. spoke to complaints and got nowhere. WILL NEVER RENT A U-HAUL AGAIN!! BRUTAL EXPERIENCE!!! read more

Staff w ere in some cases rude and unprofessional. When asked to back up with the trailer I was asked and surrendered my keys to the attendant to move it To the correct location. I believed it was a suitable location. The attendant was unable to start my vehicle he said he put in nuetral to start but couldn't turn it on. He asked me to turn it on,? If your staff is unable to drive a standard vehicle why wouldn't they indicate that? They could have damaged my vehicle. He was quite difficult and rude to my boyfriend. The cashier indicated we would be charged for 2 days. Pick up 5pm Friday to 5am Sunday. That is not 48 hrs. When I called on the phone the person indicated on phone I would have it till Sunday. There was no indication to return by 9 am Sunday. Be wary of this place. read more

I just saw here that they did the same thing to others so they do these systematically "you had your chance to look at the truck" remember these word you will here it from them before anything, if you are going to rent a truck do these make sure you take a high-resolution picture especially the top part of the truck otherwise, you are setting yourself for a charge on the card a charge that you had nothing to do with it 2-demand someone to come with you for checking the truck do not fall in a friendly talk that is a setup for the next move do not do their job and you do not have an eye for it anyway 3-when you bring the truck back, stay for the charge do not just walk away that is a recipe for a charge on your card as much as they like. If you do not do these steps even with the insurance which is $15.00 daily these trucks all have damaged anyway and you will pay for it and no they will not show you anything and their argument is so weak that you want to take legal action just to make the pain go away other take picture of millage and gas too read more

I usually rent from U-Haul because it's easily the cheapest in town. One time I rented, the customer service guy took FOREVER processing our rental. We waited in line for 30 minutes then it took another 45 minutes for them to get it done. The last time, the rental process went smoothly but the truck had been broken into while we were in possession of it. Called their customer service rep about it, they tried very hard to accommodate us and get us a replacement truck but I ended up talking to 3 different people, all of whom had a different plan of attack for this problem so it was very confusing and poorly handled. In the end, we got a replacement and there was no further damage done. This last time, I needed to be able to pick up the truck an hour earlier than they opened and I was willing to pay extra for this. I called their main customer service line who said they'd send a message to the manager of the location to call me. Does the manager call? Nope. 3 days pass by and all the available rentals disappear. What annoys me is that it's not actually possible to call their direct number. All listed numbers are forwarded to their national call centre so I had to physically go to this location to try to get this done. Waste my time and in the end, screw me over. This is how to not get repeat business. I'm perfectly fine paying extra to go elsewhere. read more

I don't think they even deserve 1 star. The ladies working at the front are rude and turns it around and blames the customers for their mistakes. My husband bought hitch off their website and called the store to make sure they had it on site and to confirm the appointment. We drove all the way from white rock and once we got there, they didn't have the hitch in stock. All they needed to do was apologize but instead got hostile and got very rude. We plan on getting in touch with Uhaul and see what they can do to make sure this doesn't happen again and they should also do employee training. read more

Not sure why all the poor reviews for the Port Moody U-Haul location. I've been using these guys for well over a decade and had no issues. If you move enough, you would know moving places are always busy at mid or month's end. Lot's of people complaining about having their reserved trucks not being available. What's wrong with you people!? If the previous customer does not return their trucks on time or if a truck breaks down, it's not U-Haul's fault!!! These things are out of their control no matter how much you complain. I'm sure if they had a spare right sized truck, they would accommodate you. People complain when things don't go their way. But don't write reviews if things go right. Personally, I had no issues buying or renting from here. I made a reservation at this place online for a 10' truck, and got an email confirmation for it. When I get there they tell me my reservation is for a 20' truck and that I was suppose to pick it up on the other side of town. This upset me because I traveled 2+ hours to get to this place and they had nothing that I could rent, when I tried to explain everything to the guy at the counter and show him the email he just shouted at me, told me to leave because of how busy he was and didn't want to deal with me. Now I'm stuck 2 hours away from my place with a shit load of furniture that I can't move Horrible customer service, do not go to this place. read more

Really didn't appreciate how they wasted my time. If you HAVE to rent from U Haul, try the Christmas Way location. Had a much better experience there. Rented a van. Asked at time of rental if I could prepay Port Mann toll. They told me I couldn't, but gave me an email address to email once we had paid Treo for the toll. Paid toll and sent the email the same day, with proof of our payment. 2 months later, I get an email saying my card had been charged, but no reason attached. I emailed again, attached the original email, and let them know that I was going to do a chargeback through my credit card company. They emailed in a week saying they had "just got my first email" and would "look into it". A month later, they hadn't emailed me or reversed the charges. read more

I am not one to write a review but in this case I felt the need. I reserved a truck and car trailer recently and when I arrived at the Barnet Hwy location to pick up the truck and car trailer I was informed that the trailer was not available. They were able to locate a car trailer in Chilliwack, since I was heading to Salmon Arm I was willing to stop in Chilliwack and pick up the trailer. I was then informed that the trailer would have to be returned to the Chilliwack location. When asked about the extra kilometres i was told that this would be at my expense. So I declined the option. i was then told if I rebooked the truck and car trailer they would have a car trailer available for the following weekend so I agreed. I arrived at the the same location and guess what no car trailer WTF. Completely frustrated with the lack of customer service and U-Haul not willing to come up with a solution I drove off. Over the years I have always rented from U-Haul but that ended yesterday. I hope if you should rent from U-Haul you have a better experience. read more

Worst experience ever! If you want to save a few bucks but possibly have your move ruined go here! I rented a one ton truck for my move Dec 1st at 1pm, and had movers coming to load the truck at 2pm. When my parents who were helping pick up the truck arrived at 12:30 pm they were told the truck was broken and the only thing they could get was a cargo van. This would not have fit even half of my apartment. Unfortunately they were so confused and at a loss for what to do, as the staff were super unhelpful, they took the truck while I was left to scramble and call customer service myself. There I was told that Uhaul could do nothing for me and there were no alternatives. I ended up calling four other companies only to have the last recommend a company I'd never heard of (Driving Force - they were great!) and they thank god had a truck coming back that our hour! Of course by the time my parents came with the useless Uhaul van and went back to get the truck, we lost two hours from my movers meaning we paid for two ours of nothing and had to do a lot of the work ourselves. After two hours my elderly Mom had to drive the Uhaul van which wasn't even used back to where it came from and we still got charged for it. Very disappointed in the customer service, and the fact they didn't even try and find us another truck with a different company or recommend anything since they knew it was broken. I also received a text at 11 am that day simply saying my Uhaul was ready to be picked up! Nothing indicating that it was no longer the size I had ordered. Clearly moving is bad enough, but I basically had a panic attack when this all happened. In the end I paid more than double and next time will go for a more reputable company. read more

Never go to this U-Haul. Our reservation was messed up and the truck broke down TWICE!!! I reserved a 26 foot truck online using the U-Haul website along with blankets, two dolly's and two flat dolly's several weeks before my move. When I arrived, they told me they don't have any flat dolly's and the regular dolly's are on a first come/first serve basis and they only had one. So much for my reservation. Then when we got the truck, it was too low on gas to even make it to our house, so the first thing we had to do was put gas in. Next the truck had lots of trouble starting at the gas station. We got it started and got home, loaded the truck, which took a few hours, then when we went to leave, the truck wouldn't start again. We tried a few times, then it wouldn't turn over anymore. We called the 1-800 number and they sent a towing company to jump start the truck. We got it going and drove to our new house....unloaded the truck, which again took a few hours. Surprisingly, the truck did start when we went to return it. But then about 5 minutes into our journey, the check brakes light came on. We checked and the brakes still worked, so we kept going. Then about 2 minutes later, we started loosing power.....the engine was overheating. We pulled over and called the 1-800 number again. The call center was apologetic, but said I had to wait for the tow truck again. I explained we had enough, we were done with the truck and all the problems and offered to return the keys and they could deal with their lousy truck. We were told if we weren't with the truck when the tow truck arrived we would be charged an abandonment fee. They did offer to let us go home and they would call us when the tow truck arrived and we would have to go back to give the driver the keys. This was the worst moving experience and worst vehicle rental experience I have ever had. After speaking with the manager several times, they finally offered to "discount" the rental by reducing the cost per kilometer and giving me free blanket and dolly rental. Overall it probably knocked off $80 from the bill but it still cost me $70 for a move that took about 12 hours when it should have taken 8 hours. No matter how much I complained they said that's the best they could offer. read more

Avoid this place. I had the worst experience ever with these guys today, and will never go back. I actually think this place is a combination of inept and unprofessional staff fronting for some kind of wily scam operation. Totally said they'd have my 17' truck today. Even called ME to confirm that, which never happens. Showed up to get it. They said the previous customer wasn't done with it yet. Gave me a 26'. For a 38 km round-trip jaunt (driving total of maybe 40 mins) it took $40 to replace the gas on this colossal 26' machine I never wanted in the first place! Would not give me a gas rebate for this inconvenience and expense that was their fault. Also, the story changed when I returned the truck: a different clerk said my original 17' had "mechanical problems." Don't go here; don't do it to yourself. I have lots more to add about past order mix-ups, two charges on my credit card for one rental, not mentioning or releasing that "hold" on my credit card you initially have no choice but to succumb to, a call centre agent taking 4 or 5 mins to find me on her computer, then putting me on hold for a solid 6 minutes... Go elsewhere. There's no price tag on your sanity or peace of mind. read more

I needed to move a couple large items and pick up some furniture from a Vancouver warehouose. It's nice that this is an actual U-Haul store instead of some random convenience store or small office of some sort. They have a large fleet of vans and trucks, and competent staff in my experience. I reserved a cargo van online a few days beforehand and when I got there they were able to check me in quickly and efficiently. I was in and out in under ten minutes. The van was a new with only 11,000 kms on it so I had no issues with the vehicle I got. Again, the transaction went smoothly upon my return. No issues and I was in and out in about five minutes. I'd recommend these guys as they have a large fleet of vehicles and they are U-Haul pros instead of a convenience store owner looking to make a few extra bucks. I will take off one star because the parking situation there is not great. Cars were crammed everywhere and parked wherever there was space. That part could use some more organization, but overall, positive experience. read more

Visit#1. show up for appt to have hitch and wiring installed. Told noone is there to do it (thanks for the call ahead of time so i don't bother to come in). #2. come in for install, guy does it but only installs the hitch and no wiring. #3 come back and ask where is the wiring? guy says he didn't know to install it. #4 wiring is installed. doesn't work. #5 guy installs wiring. All seems fine. go to Ford for regular maintenance and they show me under my vehicle. they are laughing at how pathetic the install is, wiring hanging all over the place, just tucked in here and there. Wrapped around the hitch where it will eventually end up breaking and shorting out. #6 (today). 8am appt to get wiring removed as i have had enough. 845 by the time i get to front desk because there is 1 person working the desk. told to come back in 1-1.5 hours to pick up. show up an hour later, car is still sitting there, untouched. ask the guy that was standing there that did the wiring on visit #5 why no one is removing it? said he doesn't know. Will do it now, 1/2 hour tops. almost an hour later he drives up. asks me why i take the wiring off? i asked if he looked under and saw the wiring hanging everywhere? then asks me who did it? told him that he did. Decides to actually argue right there with me about him not doing it, etc in front of a line of people. I know for a fact that he did it because he was the one that was telling me the first guy that did the wiring did a crap job. he did no better and actually had the balls to argue with me about it. I am giong to make sure that i post a review on every site imaginable about uhaul. uhaul cares? more like uhaul don't give a crap. read more

I booked a u-box container for pick up tomorrow at the Barnet Highway location. Without notifying me, they changed the reservation to their Surrey location - a 30 minute drive away, across a toll bridge. The only reason I found out was because I called THEM to find out what time the u-box was available. They were unwilling/unable to honour the original reservation, even though I had a written confirmation with the location listed as Barnet Hwy location. read more

I rented a minivan for a couple of hours to move some furniture within 20km mileage. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The car was very clean and in good condition. Last but definitely not the least was the price: just $19,95/day + mileage, which in total was under $40. Way to go. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Absolutely horrible service. I rented a 15" moving truck for pickup at 8am on March 31st 2018 with plenty of advance notice. At 7:30pm (only 12.5 hrs notice) on March 30th, I got a text message for my booking confirmation for a 10" truck for pickup at 4pm! This was the evening before I was doing a large move so I didn't see the message until 8:30pm. I then spent on hour on hold to speak to a U-Haul rep to be told that someone did not return a truck and the only truck they could give me was 10" at 4pm pickup. Why are they booking trucks so tightly that if that happens they are completely screwed? I'm sure that is a situation that happens frequently. After 30 minutes of negotiating they gave us extra KM's to use for free since we would be making multiple trips with the truck that was too small. However, I was moving an hour's drive away. What about the extra gas I would have to pay? I'd actually end up paying MORE to have a smaller truck and make multiple trips. Also, because of such a huge time difference in our moving time none of the people I had helping me were able to make it. Luckily, I was able to get a FREE 15" truck from our storage locker (sentinel storage) earlier so we could start at noon. I still had no helpers though so I didn't even finish moving until 4:45AM! I will never be using U-Haul EVER AGAIN! read more
