I rented a U-Haul truck from this location for a long-distance household move from Winnipeg to…read moreDallas and experienced a serious and dangerous mechanical failure that should have been prevented with basic inspection and maintenance. Both inner rear tires (on the tandem axle) were missing valve stems at the time of rental. As a result, the tires could not maintain air pressure and ultimately failed at highway speed. This created an extremely hazardous situation and put my belongings at risk during transport over a route of approximately 1,500+ miles (roughly 24+ hours of driving). After the failure, I was stranded and had to wait over six hours for roadside assistance. This caused major delays, significant disruption to my move, and added stress to an already time-sensitive relocation. In addition to the tire issue, the truck was in poor overall condition--dirty and clearly not well maintained. However, the primary concern is that the vehicle was released to me in an unsafe condition. A basic pre-rental inspection should have identified that both inner rear tires were not roadworthy due to missing valve stems. This situation reflects a serious lapse in safety and quality control at the rental location. I was sent out on a long-haul trip in a vehicle that was not fit for safe operation. Given the severity of the issue, the risk involved, and the significant inconvenience and delay I experienced, I am requesting appropriate compensation for this incident. I would like to understand how this occurred and what steps will be taken to ensure this does not happen to other customers.

This was by far the worst u-haul we have ever dealt with. We had made all the arrangements and done…read moreall the paperwork the day before we were scheduled to pick up the truck. When we arrived, the lone clerk was dealing with another customer. They went out to get their truck and we were left standing there for about a half an hour. Turns out their truck was dirty and needed to be cleaned. To be honest, we weren't all that upset at first but as the time dragged on and his apparent lack of concern for us became apparent, we began to get a little peeved. He was totally unapologetic when he finally returned to look after us. But, we needed a truck so we proceeded. When we brought the truck back a few hours later the real fun started. It took the same guy over a half an hour to process a $20 payment. He couldn't figure out how to work his debit machine. After about 20 minutes we asked him if he could get a manager to figure it out because he had already wasted so much of our time. He identified himself as the manager. We gave him a $20 bill instead of the debit card and it took him over 10 minutes to process that payment. When we voiced our concerns about how much of our day had been wasted he couldn't care less. I will still deal with U-haul but will never return to the Inkster location. Do yourself a favour and head to the U-Haul on McPhillips instead. They are polite and efficient.
