Earlier this year, we opened up a personal line of credit and checking account with a personal relationship banker at this branch. It is important to note that we actually do not live in the area and everything was handled remotely. We never planned to use either account and intended them to be used only for emergency purposes. Then about a month ago, I went in to access my account and noticed that there were some service fees incurred that were alarmingly excessive. I tried to call the 800 number to resolve it, however they were only able to remove one of several fees, and advised me to go into a local branch. I went to our local branch which wasn't that close by, and due to the business model of California Bank and Trust that is built upon a personal relationship banking partner with their customers, they were unable to help me. It didn't help also that my original banker had already left the Del Mar location and so I had no idea of who to work through. The local branch said they'd send some correspondences to this Del Mar branch and also recommended I reach out directly to the manager there as well. After three visits to my local branch and multiple phone calls and emails, one month later still no progress has been made. I have given up and have decided to close out my accounts. The only thing is I still need to get my refund back for those service fees before I can close it out. It ended up taking the local branch's vice president and manager to step in and graciously remove those costs out of his own branch's budget and hopefully try to escalate the issue further with this Del Mar location. CBT Del Mar has been beyond frustratingly disappointing and the lack of customer service is unjustifiable.

So when I applied for a payroll protection program I went through Chase. Three weeks after applying my loan was denied and the explanation was they could not document my income with the info I provided. That Info was 2019 taxes and 1099. On advice from a friend who works at Cal B&T I decided to Apply with them. Application went in Monday May 11. The Del Mar branch manager called me (that's right she called me) the day I submitted to suggest a correction on my application and sent me to her associate to open an account at her branch. It's now Wednesday, two days after applying, and my PPL loan is funded. I can't believe they were able to move so quickly. If you need a PPL this is the place to get it. If they do PPL loans this efficiently, they may be the place for all your banking needs.
