I do not use their regular post office services so this rating is for the passport service. However, this post office is so tight and small and the day we were there at 10 am there was already a conga line of senior citizens almost to the door so I know I wouldn't like coming here to mail a package. Anyhow, the day we came to renew our son's passport, the lady at the counter was coughing all over the place. When you work retail you should cough into a tissue or kerchief...It may not look professional, but I rarely get sick and if I do I lift up the collar of my shirt or jacket and cough into the fabric so it doesn't splatter 100 miles an hour all over the counter or at someone. Well, lo and behold the laws have changed since 2011 so when you get a passport for a child you must make an appointment and both parents and child have to be present and you have to bring the child's birth certificate. Well, I had filled out the form and not really read it, but I thought that submitting my kid's original passport was good enough and better than the birth certificate. First, the passport lady was helping an elderly man out, and I didn't know we needed an appointment, but she asks if I had one and I said no. Then she sticks out her hands to take our paperwork to start working on us and she asks for the birth certificate and I said, "Oh, we forgot it, but we can come back in 10 minutes since we live so close by." Then all of a sudden she changes her mind and says, "Well, we're booked for the rest of the day. No, you have to make an appointment. The next we have is next Wednesday." I asked her if anyone didn't show up today could she call us, but she said no. Well, that was one week away! So anyway, I make an appointment for next Friday instead. In the meantime, I call all over and find out the Bailey's Crossroads post office is booked until February, but Engleside in Alexandria has an opening anytime starting Monday so I make an appointment. I don't know what goes on during each appointment so I am literally expecting a full 30 minute interrogation or whatever during this "appointment" with the passport lady at Engleside. The Jamaican lady there was so nice and swift. We had an appointment, but she didn't even ask us if we had one! There was one person ahead of us, who had been sitting there before we got there and it only took 5 minutes, and then with us it took, maybe 10 minutes because I was asking so many questions. So, lo and behold, I am thinking that these appointments are going to take a long time where the passport person has to go over the application, ask questions, do this, and do that, and it only takes them 5 to 10 minutes each so that Indian lady in the Franconia post office had our phone number since you have to leave your number when you make an appointment so on that Thursday we went to see her she could have snuck us in for a measly 5 to 10 minutes because she was about to service us if I just had had that darn birth certificate. So I had to take my kid out of school just for the purpose of going to the Engleside post office since the appointments are 10 to 3:30 pm on weekdays only. I bet if I were to randomly go into the Franconia post office during those times on the days before my Friday appointment there would have been plenty of no shows or a lot of down time between her appointments that she could sneak people in. She could have put me in between her "appointments" on that Thursday that we went... Anyways, I don't like this post office in general because it is so tight with the passport desk and the regular mail services. I will never go here. Instead, we go to the one on Pickett Street, which is huge. read more

Hate to pile onto all the other negative reviews, but this is a place to avoid. I've given them a few tries now, and always get incompetence with a side of attitude. One employee in particular is rude, throwing shade from the second you walk in. I try my best to avoid the dude, but somehow always get sent to his register. Today, after a managerial type guy had taken 10 minutes in the back room verifying that the envelope I sent 10 days ago was indeed lost ('Umm, they must have gotten too much mail in Richmond that day, and it was never scanned'), he offered me a refund on the 7 bucks I'd spent to send the original document. As I had no hope of ever recovering the original paper, I'd printed and prepared a duplicate beforehand. But of course, this manager can't just handle it himself, so he sends me to the angry guy's register. All Mr Attitude had to do was follow EXACTLY what his manager had told him to do, and mail my 2nd envelope without charging me. But instead, he decided to ask me to describe (twice) what envelope I'd sent it in, and when, take another look at the tracking papers his own manager had printed, etc. Then, he pulls out an 8.5 X 11 inch form I have to fill out for the 7$ refund (name, address, destination, email, etc etc)...the whole 'fill this out while I help the next person' routine. Umm, sorry, bro - I'll just pay the $6.65 again, and spend the extra time here on Yelp, warning people to stay away from this USPS, and go to the UPS store instead (which is what I'm gonna do from now on) read more

This place is almost worthless, unless you just happen to be driving by, and needing to drop off some mail to send. No carriers come in or out of here, so there is no package pick up. Skip it unless you happen to be driving down Franconia and needing a book of stamps or something. read more

Franconia USPS disaster. Drove out to retrieve hold mail & was told it had been delivered though I had indicated WOULD PICK UP. Week later my hold mail was delivered. AVOID this USPS. totally incompent. read more

I think this office is a black hole or what else to think. First they marked my package as "not deliverable", even though the address is perfectly correct. Called at 8 am, someone picked up and told me to call back at 9. Called shortly after 9 am, it's been almost an hour that I have been trying to reach them, and it's either no one is picking up the phone, with ring tone ringing for minutes, then I just re-dial and again, no one is answering. 20 minutes ago someone picked up and immediately hang up on me, I heard male voice. I have packages being lot forever by this location - twice in the past couple of years. And now this headache. This PO needs a serious employee shuffle. It is supposed to provide a service to us, customers. Ugh. read more

Post office never answers the phone and packages that say "delivered" to my home never arrive. Spoke to the manager and they never call back. I have to call another post office to transfer my call there for me to be able to speak with some. I get a different story every time. This is very irritating and I believe that the entire PO is in cahoots with peoples mail and packages being taken. read more

I have been calling them non-stop since they supposedly opened at 9am. So far I have been hung up on at least 5 times, no one actually answered and said hello, they just picked up the phone and hung it up again. SurePost strikes again, post office lost a package and I'm simply trying to find it. read more

I went into the Rose Hill post office on the morning, 7/24/19 at approximately 10am to buy a single stamp. When I arrived two people were already there with no one behind the counter, we waited 4 or 5 minutes before Miss USPS counter person walked out from the back with a facial expression that reeked of attitude. When my turn arrived I decided to be extra nice as I thought it might help her bad day be a bit brighter or at least spare me the same attitude that was thrust upon the female senior citizen before me. That turned out to be wishful thinking. After requesting a single stamp I was handed one that said "celebration", I explained to Miss USPS counter person that a friend had died and I didn't want to put a stamp on the condolence card envelope that said "celebration" so I requested a different stamp. I was rudely informed that this was the only stamp she had that could be sold individually as she could not break open another book. I then asked if any of the other unattended teller counters might have another type of stamp, this is when her attitude became very disrespectful while informing they did not and that I would need to proceed to the entrance hallway to buy my stamp from the machine. She was so nasty I told her I wanted to speak with her manager. She returned to her counter to complain about me very loudly to the next customer never attempting to contact the manager. So, I questioned if she was talking about me knowing she was as I heard her loud and clear and again requested the manager. This is when her already horrific attitude became deranged and she started yelling at the top of her lunges that, and I quote; "I'm tired of this sh!t", " I don't have to take this sh!t" and then pointing toward the exit hallway said, "get you're a$$ out there and wait for the manager". As if that wasn't enough, while still running her mouth and stomping to the back to get the manager I suggested she should probably find a job outside of the customer service field when she screamed at me that I should " fine another hand". This really hit home as I only have one hand... Shortly thereafter Mr.USPS manager man showed up, I quickly knew that he was not going to be able to help most likely due to lack of experience and/or training so I simply requested he write Miss USPS counter person's name down for me as I didn't know who she was at the time. While Mr. USPS manager man disappeared in the back to do whatever it was he needed to do in order to accomplish the task of writing a name on a sticky note, another very kind lady offered to help. She also offered the "Celebration" stamp so explained my concerns to her, she then while walking over to Miss USPS's counter asked if she still had the "love" stamp book that they had broken the day before. Sure enough, Miss USPS counter person did indeed have at her counter another book of stamps with the word "love" on them that she could have offered me from the begging that would have averted this entire situation including her mental breakdown. I believe Miss USPS counter person was experiencing more than just a bad day, she might be suffering from xenophobia and possibly be in need of psychiatric counseling and/or medication. At the very least an anger management course would be extremely beneficial. read more

After several phone calls, a face-to-face visit, and several emails, they still have not helped deliver a lost package or at least advise me on who I could contact that would actually pick up the phone. Hopefully USPS will give you the option to choose where you'd like your package to get lost in the near future, because this certainly is the last place I'd pick. read more
