UAMS Health - Simon C. Mears, M.D. - Orthopaedic Hospital Dr Mears is an excellent surgeon. I'm very grateful he did my left hip replacement after I fell. He was precise and I have zero complaints. I would recommend him to anyone. Dr. Mears staff at UMAS Orthopedic Hospital were wonderful. Every one except the APRN were great. The APRN I believe was on a power trip and wanting to show me who was in control. She did nothing to help me and was very condescending to me every time she was in the room. However the Techs, Nurses and Dieticians were amazing. Such great people and very helpful. The nurse in the recovery room was awesome. She even came to see me the next evening in my room. I totally felt blessed to have the complete staff that I had. I wish I could remember all the names because they deserve recognition. I recommend UAMS Orthopedics Hospital 100%. Sarah my last Nurse was so helpful in finding me a pain Med that wouldn't lower my BP when the APRN wanted to give me low dose Toradol which does nothing for pain. Nurse Sarah went above and beyond to find something that was truly helpful at least for almost 3 hours. It was tough having no pain meds for many hours but I made it. read more

Horrible. They released my aunt, who was having multiple seizures, found naked and raped on the side of the road, and they said there was nothing wrong with her!! They lied and said she had no seizures while there, but the day she was discharged she had THREE!! They knew she was having hallucinations and said it was because of the seizures. They said there was nothing wrong psychologically either (after being drugged up and RAPED). We took her all the way to the Cleveland Ohio Hospital, where they admitted her immediately for over 7 days, they were horrified by her treatment at this hospital. She needs 24 hour care. This hospital is so ridiculous, and should be shut down for malpractice. read more

I had surgery on 02/13/2026. The procedure was done by Dr Timothy Langford. From two weeks before the procedure until the moment I was released to go home every person I dealt with was professional and helpful. Dr Langford exudes confidence and has a great bedside manner, listens and explains things with ease. The surgery went flawlessly. My recovery nurse (Emily) was kind and compassionate. After I was placed in a hospital room I enjoyed the same first class level of care. I do want to specifically mention Olympia (nurse). She went above and beyond in every way. With nurses like Olympia UAMS can only soar into the stratosphere of medical care. Thank you to everyone who had a part in my care. read more

The nurses were absolutely amazing but the doctor I saw in the ER jumped the gun and scared me to death talking about cancer and fistulas before my test results were even in. That was so wrong on so many levels. The billing department is pathetic. They didn't properly bill my insurance company and the woman on the phone in billing was really rude. I had surgery on December 1st and here it is the end of February and they sent my regular primary care physician not even half of my surgical notes. Deborah Apo Today The ER at UAMS Little Rock is the worst ER I have ever been to. I would not even take my pets there. If I am dying I'd rather stay home and die, then die in that facility. As soon as you go into the ER, from the security guard to triage, they make you feel like you are a burden to them. Not to mention the very long wait. I was not able to hold food down, and after I got triage the nurse put me in the middle of the overcrowded waiting room. I got yelled at by other patients for being sick, several nurses and staff just waled pass me until one threw a emesis bag at me. I was freezing and also needed a wash cloth to clean my self up. I've been diagnosed with liver cancer, and I have a very large mass on my liver. I've been hospitalized twice for about 5 days each time, and have undergone numerous procedures. I've been very pleased with the doctors and nurses at UAMS. Everything about UAMS seems first class. No hospital is perfect, but I can't imagine going anywhere else. Only good thing I can say about UAMS is that they have some great doctors but as far as patient care, it's a disaster!! Care techs come in check your vitals but didn't check to see if you were clean. All they were concerned about is getting your blood and giving you medications but if you ask them to do something for you, you'll never see them again until maybe the next day. My mother has had two surgeries here to remove a cancerous part of her intestines-- one to remove it, and one to undo the ileostomy after she was healed. Dr. Kang was the surgeon both times and I will say that while he was very short with us he was still professional and handled our questions very well. The rest of the surgical team and all of the nurses were very kind, conversational, and helpful. The staff working the registration desks were also very helpful; a few were short with their words as well but they did their jobs very well. The only true negatives that bring this experience down to 4 stars was that even though we were told to be checked in by 7:45 (AM) both times & arrived early both times (before 7) my mother was not taken back for her surgery until almost 2 (PM) both times. I have no issue with how long the surgery took of course, but it was a very long and tiring process even before it even started. The other negative was that-- according to my mother-- the food was tasteless to downright bad at times, but we're unsure if that was due to dietary restrictions. The café in the lobby was very good but always busy and a little pricy. I would still say it was worth it. All in all, I would recommend UAMS for their surgical teams and the caring staff-- just with a small disclaimer of being prepared to wait! read more

My brother has been to UAMS twice in 2023 for heart related problems. They lost him twice after procedures. They dismissed him while he was hallucinating from low sodium levels in hospital pj's. His clothes were missing both times he left and someone stole his wallet the first time.​ read more

I was a part of the DMS program and I was cornered into withdrawing. Lori, Layla, and Megan pushed their teaching responsibilities onto the sonographers we shadowed during our hospital rotations and we were rarely on campus, except for "class time" which was only a few hours every week. My downfall was when I had my rotation at Her Health in Fayetteville, AR where I was subjected to bullying from the other sonographers and when I expressed my concerns with Layla, I was called an "introvert" and essentially to suck it up. I tried my hardest to endure what I could, but in the end, I lost the war. If you plan on applying, keep your head low and document everything you can when it comes to any concerns about the Layla, Lori, or Megan because they have the upper hand. My only hope for any higher up that reads my review is to look into the program and really examine what is happening, and why their "withdraw" rate is high because I know for a fact I am not the only one this has happened to. read more

I could hear the front desk (admins) discussing their personal (inappropriate sexual feelings) matters with each other as I stood there filling out my form. They have tight security (LR and Arkansas has extremely high gun violence) - I didn't really feel safe sitting in the ER and the people around me waiting to be seen look like they crawled in from the sewers. After getting over 200k from my insurance or my DMT company as well as 800 out of pocket. They then tried to turn around and sue me for 800 more. Which I said I would easily pay if they would have told me or shown it on My chart. But nothing was shown or said due. I was told they tried to call me a year ago to pay for it, but left a voicemail. Their predatory tactics are disgusting and this is what medical has become in the US. A disgusting corporation preying on the patients. You'll get the money I owe because I pay my bills. Currently been in the ER with my Uncle for 11 hours and still haven't been seen. He came in with major chest/abdominal/back pain and has already vomited. The staff are being very rude and giving everyone the run around on when we will be seen. A lady just came out to leave and said they are not as busy as they say they are. Never have a great experience at this hospital. I called several times to get address for my colonoscopy. Late afternoon before procedure they called to tell me it had been rescheduled and I had already started the medicinal prep for the procedure. I got them to change it back to the original date but they changed the time. On arrival the check in person was unfriendly and seemed bothered whenever anyone arrived to check in or ask a question. Was escorted to a room full of people on cots in hospital gowns all waiting for their procedure. Had to walk across the room with my gown open in the back to the cot assigned to me. Negligent! The dirty bed linens from the previous patient were left in my room for 2 days, we had to tell staff to come get them or it could have been longer. I was taken here due to an accident. I had a hematoma in my left leg, it was obvious, my left leg was swollen twice the size of the right leg. Even after telling the nursing staff and doctors, the required compression was not given and now I have a permanent disability in my left knee due to this negligence. I was not fed for 3 days, then told it was due to an oversight. Terrible. Horrible. Disgusting. Third world practices. read more

I got in induction for my daughter. I had gotten a fever, they broke my water too soon so I had to get on a IV Benadryl, not knowing it would make me feel out of it. During labor I was 9 cm dilated but they decided to go head and it proceed with me to start pushing. I don't remember the first half of my labor because I've never been on IV Benadryl, was so out of it and dealing with a fever. I had trouble pushing couldn't feel anything so it was hard and my first pregnancy, and recovering from fever. The end was scary because they said we had to get her out, and some nurses said " she's not even trying ". She came out not breathing she was stunned they said . She's alive and well I love my daughter. As a healthcare work Not all labor is the same. As nurses who are in L & D keep negative comments to yourself. You don't know what a woman going through physically and emotionally. And being rude & snappy when I'm saying the same compliant at least show empathy and reassurance. read more

I came into the ER via ambulance; had been sick con for over a week. after being triaged my wheelchair was parked next to front desk. After waiting for over 2 hrs I asked receptionist if I could lie down somewhere because I was extremely dizzy & felt like I was going to pass out. She said "Not yet". I was left alone for another hour. I couldn't sit up. I was placed in a room with an RN who tried 4 times to get a tube to go into my stomach. It went into my lungs instead. I was admitted to the floor. I asked for my regular arthritis pain medicine , because I had not been able to keep anything down in several days. I specifically asked " No narcotics" because they increase my dizziness . I was given Morphine IV & almost fell out of my wheelchair. in my hospital room I witnessed staff members emptying a used commode with no gloves on; no handwashing or sanitizing, they went straight from dirty commode to computer; charted, than wheeled computer out of the room. I was an inpatient for 2 days. multiple miscommunications between doctors & nurses. incorrect orders followed; tubes inserted incorrectly. I was told I might need surgery & have already refused to have it performed at this hospital. read more

I'm giving this hospital a 3 star because of the night nurse Janette. She is the best, and most professional, caring, and her word is her word. She made sure she he doctors came in and gave us the results of cat's hands and everything within the hour. If I was just giving stars for nurse Janette I would give five stars. If I was riding the hospital overall I would do one star. They do not come in and clean. Well. The student nurses in there or horrible. I'm referring specifically to the stroke victim floor, that would be the 8th floor on Hall H. The student nurses left my grandmother's sitting in a bowel movement for over 20 minutes and I had to change her in the bedding myself. They do not come in and work with her like they're supposed to. They told me and other family members. It's our responsibility to rotate her brace on and off every 2 hours and every other responsibility was on us, not them. The CNAs were decent. They did their job well. The nurses are burnt for a lack of better words. If I knew Jeanette's last name I would definitely add it in here because she is wonderful. I could go on and on about how bad this place is. It was over 87,000 for a medevac bill. The speech therapist only spent maybe 4 minutes in there working with my grandmother. We asked if we could try to do something and she said if she won't do it for me I don't know why she should do it for you. That makes no sense. She knows us better. And actually the family did get her to say words, move her legs and take little sips and try to eat. The physical therapy that has been working there is actually really great. They do their job and they're caring and loving and throw in extra massages. But the nurse is there. They just don't care enough. Let me remind anybody that has a job, if you find a job that you love, you'll never work a day in your life. Apparently these people are burnt or do not love what they're doing because they are horrible. We wanted to make sure she went to Little Rock because we assumed it would be better and heard Little Rock hospitals are better than hot springs but obviously not. One of the day nurses left the butterfly ivy laying on top of my grandmother's bed opened. They put in a feeding tube in her stomach in the medicine that they give her comes out of a container and it was dirty, and one of the day nurses knew that it was the first day of my grandmother having her feeding tube and her stomach in and she was very rough with her and made her cry and scream while she was giving her her medicine. If you have a stroke victim and your family do not send them to UAMS. AND IF MY CHANCE YOU DO MAKE SURE YOU USE NURSE Janette SHE IS AMAZING AT HER JOB IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. read more

Not pleased with this hospital. 1st They lost my dads teeth. 2nd The room was filthy. 3rd They make you wait an unnecessary long time for everything. 4th They change Drs too often. As well as we had a different case worker every day and met only one. 5th. After spending 9 days there we still do not know what is wrong. On Tuesday we were given a diagnosis and on Wednesday we were told well that's what we think. He was treated for an infection we were told he had, after transferring him we were told he was treated for an infection they aren't sure he had. With all this stated I would like to say that some of the staff is extremely kind, caring, and thoughtful....followed by some who are not. read more

Tonight I didn't care about his patience or their time as much as he cares about his ego. not a single staff member reviews your chart before you come for an appointment. Each staff member that came into the office ask the same exact questions. Now let's talk about the front desk they look through you barely speak they might as well have robots at the front desk and making appointments. I have visited the UAMS Orthodepic Clinic on Shackelford four times. The first visit I left after a 45 minute wait before being seen. Today is my fourth visit and one hour and 20 minutes into it and still have not seen the doctor. In not one of the four visits have I been seen on time. Prior to this visit I called the clinic office manager who said she could not guarantee that I could be seen on time. This will be my last visit to an organization that does not value my time. Having to wait longer than 15 minutes for a scheduled appointment is a no go. read more
