Reading some of the reviews was a surprise- my experience was not perfect, but I got everything that I needed from my program. Mindset matters- I greatly appreciated Katilyn, Tam, Bianca, Dr. Suhad, and the admin team.

The program is accredited, which is great. Dr. Suhad is an amazing professor. She is down to earth and just brilliant. I couldn't imagine learning about sonography from anyone else. Melissa, my clinical coordinator, is very encouraging and I appreciate all of her help during my clinicals. I want to be 100% transparent about my time here at SUI so I will also speak about some things that can be improved on. I believe that better communication and full transparency will take this program to the next level. I think that the amazing staff, like Dr. Suhad and Melissa, are taking on a lot of responsibility and if their burden was shared with possibly more staff, the program would be so much more amazing. Yes, I finished the program and got my EMT certificate, but I was not very satisfied with the learning experience. I went into the course because I actually wanted to understand the material and build a strong foundation, not just pass the exams and get certified. A lot of the time, I felt like I was teaching myself. The program is obviously accelerated, but the bigger problem for me was the lack of structure. The first half of the day was usually lecture and the second half was skills, but we would sometimes finish an hour or more early and just be told to work on homework. I would have much rather used that time to review difficult topics, practice scenarios, or ask questions. Our main instructor was newer, and you could tell at times. The lectures were not very helpful for me, and most of my actual learning came from studying independently using the materials they gave us and other resources. Some of their study materials were useful, but practice exams were often released only the night before or a couple nights before an exam. That made it hard to use them to actually learn the material instead of just figuring out what was likely to be tested. We were also required to buy a workbook that cost around $100 and complete assignments from it, but the work was mostly just signed off without being seriously reviewed. That made it feel like expensive busywork. There were also some things that made the class feel less professional than I expected, including entertainment clips or movies being played during downtime while people were trying to study. I eventually brought some of my concerns to management. To their credit, they were receptive, and I did notice more effort and organization toward the end of the program. The skills instructors were probably the strongest part of the course. They were helpful and did a much better job preparing us for practical testing and patient assessments. So overall, if you just want an accelerated route to certification and you are good at studying on your own, this program may work for you. But if you are choosing an EMT program because you really want to learn the material and feel confident in what you are being taught, I would personally look into a longer program or compare other schools first. I got the certificate, but if I were choosing again based purely on the quality of the education, I would probably go a different route.

Had a motor project and passed us all even though none of us got the motor to work. He didnt really even try to get it running. You don't learn in the traditional way. You don't learn from A-Z. They will throw you in wherever the class is currently at. So you maybe learning the very end of the book before you even learn the beginning of the book which is bad if you are completely new to the subject and don't have any knowledge or experience. You don't jump into HVAC right away which is normal. You'll be doing electrical theory but my instructor didn't even go over HVAC electrical. I was learning more how to be an electrician then HVAC technician. Once I got into HVAC I was told in was going to take my certification test at the end of that month. Which is beyond stupid. They gave me a study packet to help prepare me for the test. By the time I had to take the test I failed of course but wasnt worried. Was told i had 3 attempts to take the test. The very next day after I took the 1st test i was told to take it again, and again I failed. The day after the 2nd test I was told to take it again and use the study packet because the head of the campus wants us to pass. Probably to give him a bonus or something like that. Well I'm not going to pay them to cheat on my future. I tried to talk them but the head of the campus "wasn't in today". I tired to call and kept going in to talk to him about why they wanted me to cheat. But kept getting the same response. I called them and told them I was dropping out because the cheating was the last straw. Then it seemed like they actually cared about my problem. I finally got calls back from the school and told them why I was leaving but the lady seemed not to really be paying attention and wanted me to go in and sit down with the head of the campus. I wasn't going to waste my time with them anymore. Said in was going to go in but didn't. I told them about it and they didn't seem to care until I left.

It worked with my schedule and gave me the tools I needed to excel at what I do. It is an excellent program!! It is a 10 week program that's financially affordable and you're able to complete even if you have a full time job, I know I did! You will meet with your instructor twice a week, one day you will do your classroom portion and the next day you'll be doing your practical/ lab portion with your classmates. Your instructor will help and guide you along the way, you will be able to find an externship which will help with your experience and in finding a job!

I even decided to e-mail one of the students that was tagged in a picture to ask her how she liked the program. She said she loved it and had nothing but good things to say about it. I think there are only 2 Assist to Succed programs as far as i know and one of them is in Oroville. So i am happy that there is one in Elk Grove, since that isn't too far from where i live. I decided to show up in person and ask questions and get more information. I didn't have a car at the time and the money, eventhough this is far cheaper than going to one of those other colleges. I wasn't going to sign up right away, but wait for the next class instead. Becky was really nice and explained how the program works and i left feeling good about possibly starting something new. However, i never did sign up for the program at that time. Here we are a year later. I went back 2 weeks ago with a friend of mine, because the both of us were considering becoming Dental Assistants, so she came along with me and we met up with Becky, the instructor. Again she answered all of our questions, showed us around and told us what all the program entails and what we have to look forward to. We even got a folder outlining what we will be learning, dress code, registration form etc. She's super sweet :) she gave us a card and told us we could feel free to contact her and ask her more questions if we had any. I am actually excited about this and know i could start a new career and just learning something different in general, which always exiting and a bit nervous. This time i will actually attend the school and my friend will too. We are actually going back this week with our filled out forms and down payment to secure our spot. The essay is required to complete/pass the class. She refused to grade my essay regardless of the fact that I followed the rubric, and had citations from the required and scholarly sources directly supporting my thesis. She refused to grade my essay because she personally disagreed with my thesis. Please DO NOT waste your time with this college unless your goal is to become a cosmetologist or hair stylist. The classes are not tranferable to an accredited community, or state college, and are certainly not transferable to a UC.

At the time of signing up for financial aid and student loans, they wanted to do a credit check for the parent of an adult student. When asked if it was a soft or hard credit check, they stated soft credit check and it would not affect the credit score. A few days later the hard credit check inquiry showed up. They refused to give copies of the signed documents for the student loans. After the financial aid was approved. The admin kept asking what stage was the process in. Information they should already know. Because their call was not returned on demand they denied enrollment. They are unprofessional and committing fraud to receive federal funding.

Today im 4 months in on a 6 month course. We have done so much safety and precautions in order to make sure all students are safe. We have wired so many labs. I feel we have done so many labs that i feel comfortable take charge and leading my team in some labs. This school does more than just teach you about electrical but to have to get a job. How to create a resume. And how to be more confident. I was in my shell when i first joined but today I feel comfortable speaking in front of the class to show how if wire something in. They also educate the community about the importance of raptors in our ecosystem and the harm caused by attempting to keep them as pets. In this mission, they are assisted by the "Ambassador Birds" -- birds that are unreleasable, due to disabling injuries or being imprinted on humans. The volunteers milling about, or, with Ambassadors on the glove, are friendly, patient and very knowledgeable. Tito further this mission, they (birds and humans) travel to schools and hold two open houses per year (Spring and Fall). The Open Houses are all-ages, with local businesses providing free snacks, beer and wine. super Owl Brewing (yes, that is SOB) is a consistent beer donor.

I was on Facebook when an…read moreadvertisement for a free open house at the California Raptor Center at UC Davis popped up in my feed. We went today. Apparently, these open houses happen in May and October every year and Center is open throughout the year to the public. You can see rehabilitated birds that can no longer be released to the wild that are often used for educational purposes. During this open house, we had live experiences with birds and volunteer handlers. We also enjoyed wonderful, free snacks and beverages. The Raptor Center relies solely on donations and is a wonderful way to spend an hour learning more about native wildlife in northern california.
