My experience with Deseret First Credit Union has been nothing short of frustrating. Their auto…read moreloan processes and digital tools feel years behind other financial institutions. To start, their auto loan interest rates are not competitive compared to many other credit unions and lenders. Unfortunately, the problems don't end there. Their website is poorly designed and extremely limited--you cannot properly manage your vehicle loan online. You can't see where payments are debiting from, you can't make principal-only payments, and you have virtually no control over your loan through their digital platform. It gets worse: if your scheduled payment date lands on a weekend, they debit on the closest weekday. However, the website will display a giant red "PAST DUE" alert, urging you to pay immediately. I learned the hard way that this is simply how their system works. I made an unnecessary extra payment because of this misleading message. When I called in, I was told that nothing was wrong with my auto-draft and that this "past due" message always appears in these cases. To make matters worse, the majority of that unnecessary payment went straight to interest. When I asked to cancel the payment, I was told I'd need to call back in a few days to request a refund--another inconvenience caused entirely by their poor customer experience. The combination of outdated systems, misleading account information, and lack of transparency has been incredibly frustrating. I cannot move fast enough to refinance my vehicle loan elsewhere.

They do have a tendency to charge ridiculous fees for overdrafts and transfers, but on the flipside, they offer a huge range of services. Not my favorite bank, but certainly not the worst. The employees here are fast, capable and polite, plus they have extended drive thru hours (until 6, I believe), so usually doesn't take long to get through.
