Incredible experience with this school and programs. The…read moreteachers are attentive, creative, patient, and supportive. The school founder, Allan has created a community in which students, parents and teachers support each other. Special recognition to Hogan, Angel, and Jordan for the extended commitment to educating children. It's wonderful to be able to send our children to school, knowing that they will be safe, inspired to learn and thrive. My only complaint is that I didn't discover them earlier! My children's complaints are that their school year is not longer! (They followed the private school calendar, which is shorter than the LAUSD calendar). The school and the teachers are true gems.

My kids, ages 6 and 8 just completed ASTEME's virtual STAR WARS CAMP and I can't say enough good…read morethings. The ASTEME team did a phenomenal job! I was around for most of the sessions and was impressed not only with the lessons provided (I learned a lot of things!) but the PATIENCE of each teacher. I heard the same questions asked repeatedly by students (and some parents!) and there was *never* even a hint of frustration from the team. WOW! Teaching over zoom is HARD so I can't give enough credit for the work they did! The activities were great, when the supply box first arrived I wasn't sure how the supplies in it were going to occupy my two squirrley kids for a week but it was like Mary Poppins magic carpet bag that just kept supplying what they needed! My kids want me to give a special shout out to Hogan who taught them (and a technologically challenged mom) how to "code" and my daughter wants Abe to know how much she liked the slime. Also they love Grey, Rosie and Alan, so basically every teacher they had they thought was the best teacher I'd highly recommend this group of educators for your homeschool or camp needs, they care about the kids and their excitement for what they teach transfers to the kids, even the littlest campers!

I would have loved to have sent my child here as I really liked the vibe I got, the staff I met and…read morethe curriculum, but even with what little tuition assistance is available, it's still way out of financial reach for non wealthy parents. I'm a single parent, an essential "blue collar" worker, and I cannot even afford to buy a 1b1b in my own city let alone have my child receive a fulltime Jewish education. Additionally they here really tone deaf things on their website imo (I hope the staff sees my review and realizes I don't mean any bad intent). It says "tuition made affordable". Elementary school tuition is just under $33,000 and that does not include a required temple membership or any of the other fees. They also have listed to "reach out to grandparents and other family members for additional assistance when appropriate". That really rubbed me the wrong way as to me it suggests to me that that I probably have family who could help me pay for it year after year. My advice to any parent or parents in my situation who aren't the stereotypical MOT living the good life in the 310, apply to every LAUSD school that you are interested in through school choice. While the schools you will likely want your child in will have a lottery with hundreds of families competing for spots, you have a chance of getting 1 of them as from what I understand from moms I know. I'm planning on doing this along with enrolling my child at a nearby synagogue for Hebrew School once a week and supplement this all with family events through Chabad and the Jewish Federation. It's not what I wanted ideal but I have limited options.

A letter from a grateful mom (and a linguist)…read more Dear Parents, I want to share our family's experience with WorldSpeak School, where my child is currently enrolled. As someone who has been researching bilingualism since 2009 and now works in higher ed (UCLA), I've spent years learning about the benefits of raising multilingual children. When a colleague - who had sent all three of her kids to WorldSpeak - told me about this school, I knew right away it was the place for us. I registered my child as soon as I could, and it's been one of the best decisions we've made. WorldSpeak offers full-immersion programs in Spanish, Chinese, and Russian. It focuses on every child's natural ability to pick up new languages during their "window of opportunity," when their brains are especially receptive to learning. But it's about more than just language - kids here develop academic skills, explore music and arts, learn life skills, make friends, and have so much fun along the way. What makes WorldSpeak stand out is how it connects cutting-edge research with real-world practice. Studies like those by Bice and Kroll (2019) show that even children who grow up speaking only one language benefit from exposure to linguistic diversity. Hearing other languages - even when they don't fully understand them--helps shape their brain networks in meaningful ways. Even more remarkable, Sundara, Ward, Conboy, and Kuhl (2019) found that as little as five total hours of exposure to a second language can leave a measurable impact on young children's language learning. Why does this matter? Because the benefits go far beyond just speaking another language. Research into bilingualism highlights cognitive advantages, particularly in executive functioning - skills like focusing attention, switching tasks, and problem-solving. Studies (Bialystok, 1999; Bialystok et al., 2004; Costa et al., 2008) have consistently shown that bilingual children often excel in these areas, giving them tools for success in many aspects of life. And here's something exciting: WorldSpeak is currently looking to form a new Italian group and is always open to adding new languages. If you know families interested in an Italian program - or any other language - you should definitely let them know. Finally, what truly makes WorldSpeak so special is its wonderful teachers. They create incredible experiences that go far beyond academics or language learning. The care and attention they give to every child make this school feel like a second home. As a linguist and a parent of two trilingual kids, I can't recommend WorldSpeak highly enough. It's been an amazing place for my child to grow and thrive, and I hope more families discover what this unique school has to offer. WorldSpeak currently has two locations in West LA, making it convenient for families in the area.
