This is my preferred farmer's market. It's small, friendly, and not full of crowds or boutique organic goat cheese sellers.

Since this was totally unprepared, I asked if they could give me a box thrown near their truck, the buzz cut lady was like next time, you better come with a bag..... I said I was just stopping by unexpectedly. So people have to be shamed without a bag when shopping in farmers market now? Is there a better way to recycle those boxes than giving away to their customers? Nowadays white lady can just find every opportunity to educate you, when you are shopping, you are walking, you are eating in a restaurant, because they are just so precious and privileged. Ps: when you check out every item, they have to ask you the same question: is it conventional or organic? Girl....if you are farmers market, maybe you should just sell organic, otherwise, there is a Giant 2 blocks away so I can avoid this hassle....

And, they have specialties that I can't find elsewhere and are absolutely delicious -- snap peas and okra are great examples. No other markets can equal New Morning Farm's corn, tomatoes, peaches and nectarines. However, what I enjoy most about New Morning Farm is their staff. They are always pleasant, polite and informative. After a while, they become like family for early shoppers.

While the…read moremarket is usually at the elementary school, it sometimes took place at the Bethesda Farm Women's Market near Bethesda Row. There's plenty of parking in the back! There's an impressive variety of 20+ vendors with scrumptious pastries and gluten-free baked goods, fresh squeezed and cold-pressed juices, dog treats, empanadas, alcohol, and fresh made-to-order pizza and crepes. Here are my favorites: El Jefe Wood-fired Pizza - The new wood-fired pizza is delicious and the Margherita pizza tastes like Napoletan pizza, replaced Cipolla Rossa pizza. Grandma Vera's Bakery - You must try the cheesy Brazilian bread, gooey and gluten-free before they sell out! The Oreo scones are truly a delicacy! The fresh squeezed OJ and smoothies are refreshing and great way to cool off during the summer. Fresh Market Bakery - Located at the front of the market, the vendor has a variety of scrumptious breads, quiches, pies, and other baked goods. The fluffy asaigo cheese and seasonal focaccia breads is divine and sell out fast!. The cheesy and blueberry scones are my favorite! The spinach mushroom quiche is bursting with flavor and worth $25. Family of Nuts - Galore of roasted and flavorful, healthy nuts. The Apple and Truffle Parmesan almonds are my favorite while hubby likes the Everything Bagel seasoned Cashews. Jarabe Paleta - The paleta popsicles are refreshing and perfect way to cool during the scorching summer heat. The mango, watermelon, apple cinnamon and peaches and cream are my favorite! The strawberry yogurt paleta and creamy cinnamon horchata are fun to try, the spicy mango delivers with a tangy tamarind flavor and a spicy kick! Little Sesame - The caramelized onion hummus hit the spot! While hummus can be a bit bland, the caramelized onion added a nice sweet touch and paired well with the fluffy pita. The pita was nice to try, but quite dense and hard to conquer all 4 pitas. Yoga in a Bowl - Delicious Peace Kathi paneer breakfast wraps and Rose and Mango Lassi cold drinks. Arepateca - While the arepas were fun to try, there were dense and overstuffed, and quite messy! The hot chocolate with a spicy kick was good! Rita's Crepes - The Veggie Supreme with scrambled egg is bursting with flavor and quite filling! My toddler enjoyed the crispy crepe and it was so much fun to watch the staff make the crepe. Fight Juice - Cold-pressed fresh juice that's healthy and not too sweet. The Strawberry Lemonade is quite refreshing! Simply Delicious Desserts - True to its name, the fresh eggplant parm and butternut squash ravioli lasagna are simply delicious! Rita's Crepes - The Veggie Supreme with scrambled egg is bursting with flavor and quite filling! My toddler enjoyed the crispy crepe and it was so much fun to watch the staff make the crepe. Jinlan Wenhua - Authentic hand-made dumplings with an impressive variety of vegetarian and meat hearty dumplings (sell out early!). They come frozen and are best prepared at home by pan-frying for crispy edges or steaming for soup dumplings. The sweet potato and glass noodle dumplings were bursting with flavor and the Carrots and Zucchini dumplings were also tasty. Yufka Bakery - Crispy phyllo spinach and feta cheese sandwich with spicy mayo. Bun'd Up (Alternate Weeks) - Scrumptious soft handmade bao buns stuffed with tofu, chicken, beef, pork, etc The bite-size buns are airy and light and topped with greens, scallions, crunchy fried onions, and aioli sauce. Rice Culture - Loved trying the waffle cone fish shaped Taiyakis filled with custard and red bean paste. The custard was my pick while my daughter enjoyed the red bean paste. Butterfly Spirits - The 4 pack of Eldenflower Seltzer is boozy and delicious! Twin Valley Distillery - The Apple Cinnamon Whiskey costs $29 is refreshing and pairs well with apple cider and prefer it over the flagship 1812 Blended Whiskey at $42, which isn't that smooth. Clear Skies Meadery - Bought a bottle of the maraschino liquor. Potomac Sweets - With a galore of scrumptious pastries to choose from, the Almond Croissant and Almond Chocolate hit the spot! The baked goods are definitely on the sweeter side. Baked by Jael - The decadent raspberry crumble bar and the fudgy chocolate chip brownie hit the spot! Impasta Gluten-Free - The mini berry tart was delicious! Not a fan of the dense Chocolate Chip or Garlic Sour Dough Scones, they had a weird smell and taste to them. Rise Gluten-Free Bakery - The Buttermilk Biscuit was delicious and stayed moist for 2 days! I wasn't a fan of the chocolate croissant. While the rich decadent chocolate filling was tasty, the doughy shell was underbaked with a sour taste and didn't settle well . Pearl Iced Tea - The passionfruit tea is quite bitter and wish their tea could be sweetened by simple syrup or sugar. Wonderful market and always love coming back and bringing home a bunch of goodies!

I do agree that this isn't so much a farmer's market as a bunch of prepared food and drink vendors, for the most part. Once (or if) you get over what you thought't'd be based on the name and get into what it is, it's really fun! I really enjoyed talking to all the vendors -- they were all very friendly and open, informative and I must say, joyous! Some were also a bit apologetic for being out of certain things, because I went at the very end when some things were sold out. There was still a great selection, though! I obtained much deliciousness from Rosemary Bistro Cafe in the form of Local Grilled Stuffed Zucchini, Watermelon Gazpacho, saucy beans, and a many-greens soup. This alone fed me for days .... There was also a great and greatly innovative cross-cultural mix in the Black Bean Hummus from Layla's Food Company, and a most wonderful Pesto Genovese from Open Hand that I used to make a beauteous pesto pizza -- mmm! I did eat really well for days with what I got here ....

To be so small, it is packed with lots of good finds. Plenty of samples to goo around too...well sorta...COVID has kinda shut that down these days. At this market, you will find a full variety of conventional and certified organic fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meat, poultry and eggs, artisan sweet and savory baked goods, fresh milk, butter, yogurt, goat/cow cheeses, fermented foods and pickles, jams, jellies and sauces, flowers, plants, handmade soaps, and more! You name it, this market has it all. One additional note to know...."It's a year-round" market! Unlike most farmer's markets in the area, where you are limited to summer-only and seasonal openings. The market is open only on Saturday mornings between the hours of 9am-1pm. Parking is available on the streets for free and parking meters are free as well on weekend. And, if it helps...all vendors accepts SNAP/Food Stamps and WIC. In all, lot's of great finds and a great way to connect with local farmers in/around the DC metropolitan area. It is definitely worth a visit. It's the perfect place to spend part of your Saturday morning on a nice day...and on the cheap.

Taco Dirty To Me: Crispy battered cauliflower tempura tacos, bursting with flavor! Bun'd' Up - Delicious fried tofu and mushroom in squishy soft bao buns topped with microgreens, scallions, and a nice creamy aioli sauce. Light and tasty! Urban+ade - Refreshing lemonade with less sugar than classic lemonade. The Sage & Tarragon is my favorite! Veg Heaven - Decadent sweet treats, the dark chocolate cookies and brownies are the best!
