When recently opening a teen checking account for grandson, I decided on UFCU as opposed to Wells Fargo (who actually have a pretty good, free plan for teens too). This is one time a Credit Union's higher level of service is well worthwhile. There were a couple of little issues with setting up the account, but unlike major commercial banks, it was always a quick and easy phone call to extremely pleasant and helpful people. Might actually consider cancelling my regular checking account at some point since this has been such a good experience. read more

Crap... I am out of yuppie food stamps (a.k.a. $20 bills). I need cash. UFCU to the rescue. This UFCU ATM is so convenient to replenish my cash needs. They have walk up and drive through (I like to drive through). The ATM is rarely down. This is also a mobile banking location for UFCU. If you need to use the drive through bank, they have video cameras - so you can have a conversation with the teller and actually see their face. Nice concept. They are fast, friendly and open on Saturdays for banking. I only wish the ATM dispensed more than $20 bills, as I spend those too fast and if I take out $200... it leaves my wallet kind of fat. No worries - if I am there during business hours I can drive back through the mobile teller and convert them to bigger bills (which make me feel temporarily rolling in cash). Problem solved. Now if I just had more money in my account ;p read more

I use UFCU as a "shared branch". Everyone at this location is always friendly, and they tend to keep the line moving. It's not as packed as the location off Guadalupe north of campus, so maybe it's easier. They have a coin counting machine, which makes that jar of change easy to process. Remember that all the tellers are out in the drive through building, so going inside may or may not shorten your wait when the cars are lined up. read more

I've had my license stolen from me while making a withdrawl at this branch. I sent my form along with my license for identification in the tube to the teller. When it returned I emptied the contents of it into my purse in a hurry and did not check to confirm my license had been returned. I assumed I didn't have to check because I trusted the efficiency of the tellers to make sure something so important got back to me. I got home to discover my license had not been returned to me. I went back the next day where they swore up and down that they didn't have it. I know that the bank was the only place I had taken my license out of my wallet that whole week. I don't smoke and I don't drink so I don't get carded which means my license basically never leaves it's assigned pocket in my wallet. I was willing to forget about the incident and cough it up to an absent-minded teller but now my mother has also had her license mysteriously disappear at another location of this bank. This is really unsettling to think that you can't trust your own bank to return your rightful property to you. Perhaps there is a dishonest teller who is pocketing driver's licenses or the bank has a policy of not returning licenses to people when the teller does not put them in the tube but I know that I will be vigilant from now on about wether everything that goes up the tube comes back down. read more

I don't think I could ever go back to a regular bank after being with UFCU for the past six years. They are incredibly friendly and are open later than most banks, which is so convenient for anyone who works doing the day. We have had many services with them, including unsecured loans which were very easy to get. One time, I showed up with my stepson and his piggy bank, but they were closed for an event. The branch manager happened to be outside and he opened the bank for us so my kid could make his deposit. Would a regular bank ever do that for you? Probably not. read more

When I walked into the branch I was not greeted or even told, "We'll be right with you." Instead, a banker who was free (no one at his desk) continued to speak with another banker and customer. (Though there was a computer for signing in at the front, it was not logged on.) I will speak plainly here: I wonder if my treatment would have been similar if I were not a small, young-looking woman? But I digress. When I finally was assisted, customer service remained lukewarm at best. The explanation I was provided regarding my accounts was not clear. I had to ask questions several times. They come highly recommended around Austin- so I stopped by after work to talk to someone at this location, and ended up opening my account. They made the process very easy, explained everything thoroughly, and handled things very efficiently. I was not left waiting, and their service was amazing. I have banked with UFCU for several years and have all car loan, checking/savings account with UFCU. I have been happy being an UFCU Member, they have a great online system, hours that work with my schedule and friendly staff. I almost always use the drive thru teller, and like I said, the staff is friendly. They have a new employee or at least new to me in the drive thru, William. William takes it up a notch to make sure that all your banking needs are met and adds great customer service to the whole experience. I am so glad I am a Member at UFCU. read more

Big fan of UFCU. Been a member since college and they always do me right. I no longer have a checking account with them, only a savings and a credit card. But I needed a notary one day, so I just walked into this branch and becaseu I was a member, they helped me out. I was in and out in five minutes. Some of the people at this bank make huge mistakes. I make my deposits in the drive thru and they have made mistakes three times in the last 6 months. After the first time, I had to wait 5 business days for them to correct the mistake on my account. The other two times, I caught the errors before I drove away and they corrected them right then, but with no apology or concern. Their services are free - but make sure you watch everything they do. read more

I love the experience that a credit union gives you versus the mega-banks. UFCU gives me very good service but one thing that rubs me the wrong way is their video teller approach - it's great in the drive thru to give you a more personal feel; in the lobby it feels more like the mega-bank mindset of why should we want to talk with you. When I go into a "bank" lobby it's usually because I need to talk with them but the antiseptic feel of the video teller really turns me off. read more

A friend recommended UFCU so my wife and I went in to open up a couple accounts. We truly felt like a valued business partner and not just another numbered account. We will be closing our accounts with our previous multi-national big corporate bank and will be moving all of our financial business exclusively to UFCU. Chris Mendez at the South MoPac location was not only extremely helpful, but genuinely interested in saving us money and helping us make the best decisions. He wasn't trying to upsell us additional products like our former bank did every time we made a simple transaction. full service branch with knowledgeable helpful tellers. you have to watch out these days, ufcu is popping up branches in some places, but they really are not branches, just run of the mill walk up teller machines, a waste of time unless you're doing a fast cash withdrawal or deposit. this branch has real tellers that actually help. read more

Absolute hot garbage. I wouldn't recommend this "financial institution" to my worst enemy. They sell business accounts, but it's really just a personal account with your business name on it. You get no more support than you would for a personal account, and the support numbers are exactly the same. Furthermore, the mobile banking app is pure trash. Logins break every free months and you are forced to reset your password here and with every accounting system that needs to connect to your bank account - accounts payable/receivable systems, inventory management, invoicing, payroll... It gets tedious. Furthermore, when you do need to reset your password, the app wants information other than what it actually prompts you for - prompts for account number, last name, last 6 of social, and zip code. But that doesn't work for a business account. Instead what you're supposed to just remember for every time this shitty app breaks authentication, is that it wants the full business name on place of last name, and last 6 of the business' EIN instead of last 6 of social. Why can't the app prompt for the correct information? No one can answer that. And in 2 years no one has been able to determine why authentication just breaks every few months. And God forbid something happens to your business during the weekend - there's no one to help you past password resets. You're just fucked until Monday - if they can even figure it out then. I won't even get in to how, when I opened my account 2 years ago, no one ever got back to me about insurance for my business. I called 4 times and asked for an insurance rep to get back to me and one never did. I'm trying to tube them more of my money but a FINANCIAL INSTITUTION can't be arsed. Stay away from these fraudsters. They're as bad as Capital One and Bank of America. read more

Wow. i've never had such a wonderful experience while applying for a loan. From the manager Joel greeting you at the door, to Julia the bank personnel rep who helped me though the whole process. She saved me from getting ripped off by the car dealership! Both of them went above and beyond to help me, the Manager actually took some real time with me- just to give some important information and advice! He was great! Let me just say that I'm very loyal to Credit Unions. I was with one for YEARS back home and never had problems. I worked for a traditional bank for about a year and saw how they operated and they typically helped their customers out when needed. I didn't have the same luck with a major banking company when I moved here. No help whatsoever actually. I've been with these guys for about 5 years and they've helped me more than I could've imagined. Free checking, friendly and helpful employees and enough locations scattered around the city. I had my Identity stolen a few year ago and they gave me the money back within HOURS. They even helped me with the steps to fix it all up. Then I refinanced my car and cut my interest in HALF! Needed to change the date of my car payment. No problem! Do yourself a favor and ditch those big banking giants that took government hand outs and screw you over at every opportunity and join a CU.
