Their prices are not bad, even though I think they have a reputation for being the pricey option; but when doing my own informal price comparisons with Sainsbury and Tesco, they all seem to be pretty similar. M&S tends to have a pretty good selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. I think their weakness is in the fact that they mostly only have their own store brands of nonperishables, but they've started to incorporate other brands of cereal, etc. But generally, you can be sure you're going to find what you need here, with good quality, and at a decent price. I'm a fan of their Indian cooking sauces, some of their pasta sauces, and their house-brand cereals. Just a note: For anyone with experience with actual Mexican food, their enchilada kits will be a disappointment. But that's pretty typical for Britain, anyway... you don't really come here for Latin American food ;)

It's cluttered, but surprisingly easy to find things, and it's a great place for bumping into people you know. I go there and top up if we are having a party but also to stock up on pasta and tomatoes, ingredients for canolis and frozen fish (they have a massive selection). Outside there are boxes and baskets of organic fruit which looks far more appealling than the generic rows you get in supermarkets. Inside, there's a delicatessen stand with fresh vegetarian pasties and quiches, rolls, bagels, pasta and even some Chinese bits and pieces. It's all rather healthy, so the closest you'll get to real gluttony is probably a filled croissant. What I really love, though, is the pick and mix range of dried fruit and nuts. I love the apricots and the yoghurt coated nuts best. Yummy! They're relatively expensive, but so are mixed bags in supermarkets and you can't choose your own then, so it's definitely worthwhile and £2 of mixed fruit is a lot healthier than a £2 slice of cake! They also do a great selection of sausages, which my friend constantly raves about - apparently the closest you can get to a continental butchers' market stall in England.

The chickpea salad with goats cheese and peppers is lovely, and the hot gnocchi with mushrooms and spinach is also really tasty. They often have veggie frittata or pasties which are always delicious too. I hear the chicken sandwich isn't bad either! For the sake of my bank account and waistline, I normally steer clear of the produce, but it is a good place for a treat, or a present.
