I went there for an event last night, but we got full reign of the museum. We did a scavenger hunt…read moreso we got to see every inch of this place. Chicago has a bunch of these smaller niche museum, but I thought this one was one of the better ones. It's an an historic house that would have overlooked the Lake before LSD existed. The exhibits were all pretty good, but my favorite was eye care. They had some great optometry artifacts and a collection of sunglasses over the years. They also have quite a bit of original art, mostly in sculpture form which is both odd, but still important. Another thing I liked was that it wasn't overly graphic. There's a plastic surgery section that has a few slightly unsettling portraits of people maimed during WWI. I mean, I kind of felt more bad for those poor people which I think was the point. If I were to give it all a rating, it's a light PG13. If there are any downsides, the place is a little on the expensive side for its size, but they're constantly running events that include admittance. They also seem to lean on some kind of artist or researcher that does a lot of dream stuff. I didn't like his stuff as much. Also, the sections are a little disorganized, but that might be spacing in issues. Either way, this was a pretty interesting place. I'm betting they do an awesome Halloween event because it's a little spooky, but all educational. The gift shop is neat too!

Its too spooky for me. If you like bones, skeletons and historic surgical items. This is the place…read morefor you. This is not a place for the timid. Its great for halloween for things that go bump in the night. The second floor library is impressive reading to health related books. The adjoining room is filled with tall statues with histories related to medicine and health.

My experience at the Harold Washington Cultural Center was decent. I didn't have any issues what so…read moreever. I went to enjoy a stage play called " King of Policy:Running Numbers." As I went into the center someone held the door open for me and once I got inside there were 2 ladies seated collecting tickets and passing out programs aka Playbills. Once I got inside the theater I was amused by the size and pretty impressed by everything. The place is beautiful and I think it's awesome that Chicago has a performing arts center like this in the city. This is so necessary and I actually can't wait to support more shows in the future. I have no complaints.

I have determined that I will not patronize the Harold Washington Cultural Center after this last…read moreevent I actually don't know whom to blame I don't know who's in charge here, not having enough Usher's and staff ticket agents security everything was just flawed One major complaint that this past Saturday it was maybe about 35 40 degrees when you step inside , it had to be at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit I wear my hair natural so by the end of the show I was rocking a full out afro I don't have a problem with afro but that wasn't the particular style I was going for that day I like it curly I was completely drenched from my shoulders to my waist there was basically no one who can help us and let us know what was going on how to find our seats on our own I had the most incompetent people working in the box office while I had my tickets that were electronically email to me with the barcode the date the time the date of purchase this person behind the glass either she was illiterate or just couldn't comprehend that I had an electronic ticket and maybe I was not on The the Eventbrite only list that she had I kept explaining that I had my receipt they had the event name all the info on there to verify this was an legitimate ticket & purchase The theater itself is nice the seats are pretty close together and unfortunately we have to sit up in the balcony when we were about 6 rows from the front so it wasn't a bad seat The problem was how I was run the sound system the heating and cooling system It seems that the promoter had no idea how to run a successful show he made over the amount of money it takes to hire enough staff get someone in control get some order and organization going for people don't feel like they totally got ripped off the show was okay but it had too many distractions that took away from the event itself
