WOW!!! I don't know how to thank Ryan for taking the time to make sure I made the best decision for me. To say I am a novice would be an understatement. I had less then a basic understanding of what I was looking for and needed a lot of help and guidance, I found that and much, much more. I have visited a few gun shops over the past year as my interest has grown and more often then not I get a strange look when I ask a basic question or feel like I just don't belong. One previous store owner just tried selling me a firearm that was 3x what I wanted to spend. Ryan and the staff at Ulster Firearms took the time to ask me questions, how experienced, how often i was going to shoot, etc... the only question he didn't ask is how much I want to spend because it didn't seem to matter. He wanted to find what was right for me. He wasn't trying to up sell me, he wasn't trying to make a quick buck. He was actually interested in getting me the right firearm for my needs. When I asked about an upgrade sight, he suggested one that was 1/2 the price and much better for me to learn on. Exactly what I needed. I walked out of his shop with more then i ever imagined. I have a new rifle that I can learn on, one that can grow with me as i get better. But more importantly I have a valuable resource in Ulster Firearms. I told Ryan that he just aquired a new life long customer and I meant it. Not new to guns, but new to the AR-15 platform. This is what I went to UF for, on the recommendation​s of my cousin and a patient of mine. In short, Ulster firearms is a clean and well-kept​ store, quality selection of AR-15's, handguns​, a few self-defense​​ shotguns, and whatever​ else you need to get your gun(s) squared away (and ammo of course). I had the pleasure of being helped by Ryan (the owner). I explained​ what I wanted my 1st AR-15 for and a couple of hours later (at least), I drove home​ with my new rifle. Ryan is not your quintessential​ salesman​, at no time did I feel pressured, all my questions (and then some) were​ thoroughly​ answered. He could have easily sent me home with at least $500 in functional accessories for my rifle; but instead of upselling me, he encouraged​ me to become familiar with my rifle in its ​more basic state and then come back for add ons with a more experienced​/educated perspective​. I like to learn, and the more relevant​ information I can acquire​​ the better, and Ryal delivered. After spending at least two hours with Ryan, I honestly feel that if I walked out of there without​ making a purchase​, he wouldn't have given me any attitude. Only reason I'm giving it one star it's because i was lied to. Found the location on Yelp. Called to inquire if they had AR-15s for sale and I believe it was the owner that told me that it's what they predominately sell and I should come to the store. I drove approximately 2 hours after work and when I got there they have none in stock. Maybe tomorrow. Could have told me that over the phone. Took my business elsewhere. read more

Just got my nephew his first pistol. As always Ryan was patient, knowledgeable and helpful. After an hour or so he decided on a Glock 43 which is an excellent choice. There were several different makes and models to choose from at varying prices but we were never once pressured into any particular one. Ryan only wants his customers to be comfortable and happy with they're purchase regardless of what they buy. This is a great place for new shooters and seasoned. Prior to my purchase from Ryan, I was only familiar with mil/surp weapons, and completely new to AR's. Ryan made me feel extremely comfortable, answered any novice questions I had with great courtesy, and even offered to have me come back when I'm ready to clean my new "black and scary"! I've been to a lot of gun shops in my life. Some make you take a number and wait. Others have guys behind the counter that look at you like you're annoying them just being there. Then there's the select few that really try to help people make decisions on what's best for them. This is one of those shops! How refreshing to go into a store and have someone that actually knows what they're talking about yet not be aggressive or put the "hard sell" on you. These guys truly care about their customers and want them to be happy. I've spent many hours in this store trying to decide what to purchase and never once was I rushed or ignored. I've also seen new customers come in and be welcomed and treated with respect. The shop is well stocked with all types of firearms including handguns by Glock, Sig, Walther, H&K, Smith & Wesson, Ruger and others. Plenty of long guns whether you need a sporting gun or home defense. A huge selection of AR type rifles and plenty of ammo and cleaning kits for all. Oh, and I almost forgot, they're prices are unbelievable! You can shop on gunbroker and such just to see pricing but these guys are right there. Plus you get the best customer service anywhere. I'll gladly pay a little more for the convenience of getting it now and knowing I can go back if there's ever an issue. I've made two purchases recently and couldn't be happier.
