Great guys, good shop talk. Fair prices, fair transfer fees. The guys are flexible on pricing, typically can't match on-line prices but will get close enough to make it worth keeping local. The store itself has good parking, is close to the Dutchess County Sheriff's office and again, the guys are good. As for the guys, most are ex-military, the rest just guys who like and shoot a lot of guns. For new gun owners they're pretty open to giving good tips and helpful advice. For experienced gun owners, they know enough about what you need to get you there. If you need personal protection, these are the guys to go to in the area. read more

I've made several purchases at Civil due to horrible experiences ive had at Collector. Staff at Civil are much better at explaining things to you, as well as making purchase suggestions. Although they do not have as much inventory as Collector they at are much more organized, and could always get you what you need. I for one will never return to collector and will suggest anyone looking for any firearm related purchases to check out Civil instead. read more

went to Civil arms to get my ATI Titian repaired, had problems with the guide spring assembly. The guys there took a look at my firearm and took the time to figure how to remove and replace the spring and showed me the easiest way possible to remove and replace the spring I was very grateful for the amount of time that they took with me I would definitely go back to the shop great bunch of guys read more

I have been having a hard time finding a gun shop that had remained open during COVID and had a good selection/stock of both firearms and ammo. A year ago, I had a called a number of local shops to help me do an out of state transfer (via FFL) and never even got a call back. This time, I was looking for a .22 Magnum for coyote hunting which is also sometimes a hard caliber to find. I found Civil Armory on Yelp, called them, they had Ruger Precision .22 WMR and ammo in stock so I visited today. They were very knowledge and friendly to both my Wife and I. I walked out with that Ruger scoped, bore sighted and 2 boxes of ammo in an hour or so. I am a hunter, not an avid shooter, and the guys understood my level and made us feel welcome. It's a small shop but full of pistol and rifle selection, stock, ammo, and accessories. They are also willing to do transfers using their FFL for a reasonable fee. I highly recommend them. read more

Derek is awesome. Got my first rifle here, came back to get a scope and encouraged me to learn how to shoot it with the iron sights before jumping in with all the cool "Tech." Showed him a photo of one of the targets I shot at 50 yards, and he said I needed practice. Put me in contact with a guy named Peter whom will help me become more skilled with the rifle as is. Everyone there knows what they are talking about, first class service from a gun store!! They are not just selling you what you need but giving you free knowledge with your purchase. I was a new comer to firearms and left with way more knowledge then expected, they even explained some laws and regulations I had no idea about. My first trip to Civil Armory, I didn't even make a purchase. Not their fault, I just moved upstate from the city but left knowing what I had to fix and four weeks later returned to make my purchase. They never pushed me into buying anything and even talked me out of buying something I saw on YouTube. They could have let me paid for the item I saw but instead they helped me find right firearm I needed. Surprised me because I actually spent way less then I was but that's how great they are. Got my Ruger PC9 from Civil Armory 3 years ago, Dereck will not let you leave until you know everything there is to know about your purchase. They will take the time to teach you whatever you need to know, even how to break it down to clean it. Have been doing business with them ever since. I have to mention there are three gun stores way closer to where I live, one even four minutes from me (initials are C.R. and A.) but don't mind the twenty five minute drive to Civil Armor because of their Top notch service!!! read more

True to the reviews very helpful guys very easy going great all around guys. Asked a few questions in relation to what I was interested in wasn't pressured into buying anything. Great store. The guys who work here are terrific, which is great considering they don't have much local competition. The closest store to my house gets mixed(mostly bad) reviews online and it's no wonder why once I stopped in. So i got on the road again a few minutes north and found a bunch of friendly down to earth guys who run civil armory. No complaints here. I dealt with Derek and he was very knowledgeable. Purchased over $9,000 worth of firearms and gear in one day. However, items were missing from the Firearms we purchased. They were sold as "new never fired condition" ... but they were clearly missing several key accessories and items that come with these firearms. They said they had to look for them .... but they had them "buried somewhere" in the store and could not find them at that moment. This was just prior to the news about a Ban in NY .... so the store was very busy. I understood they could not look them at that time ... so I paid for my purchases in full and left. I should have known better. They had an attitude when I made the purchase ... but since they were busy, I wrote it off to that. After 3 weeks of stalling ... and then no response. I finally got an answer. They did not have the missing parts for these firearms. I suggested that Civil Armory provide me with 2 extra Magazines or some other high margin accessories. With that, I would call it even and go purchase what was missing from the manufacturers. They refused. I ended up having to purchase the items ... which cost me $360 direct from the manufacturers. Some of the manufacturers where sympathetic when I told them my story and sold me ... or gave me ... a few parts they normally do not sell. To make matters worse, I was quite nice about it ... and my request was not unreasonable or presented in anything but a nice way. However, Civil Armory gave me serious attitude ... and then claimed they never said they had all the parts. This is not true since my associate who was standing right next to me when I made the purchase ... confirmed that they did indeed make this promise. I rarely if ever post a bad review. I am too busy and do not have the time. I normally just choose to let my friends and associates and all potential customers know about my experience. However in this case, I am very upset by the way this was handled by Civil Armory. I am a professional business owner ... and I can tell you that these guys like to think ... and claim .... they are a lot smarter about business than they really are. After 38+ years running my own business ... I can say with great confidence that these boys have a lot to learn about how to build a good business and a reputation. Needless to say, I am not happy with my experience doing business with Civil Armory. The lack of integrity and attitude has turned me off to doing any business with Civil Armory ... ever again. read more

I am not new to guns but had never had a hand gun I went to Gander Mountin thinking they would have a larger selection then anyone else the selection was good and it helped me pick a gun I liked. But since I like to try and go local as much as I can I called to see if civil armory had the gun I was looking for they said they had one in stock but I was the second call about that proticular gun that day it was a new style that had just come out and was very popular so I went over and they had just sold it but did let me look at it and some others that gander Mountin didn't carry. I decided on the gun I called about and they said they could have another one on their next delivery. The price was about $20 more then gander Mountin but as I said would rather buy from local shop than big retail company. Gun came in as promised and they tru in a box of ammo worth $20. All the guys there are very helpfull and informative and the ammo pricing is the best around from what I've seen in the year since I got my gun. terrible shop!! bought an ar colt m4 they said it was safe act compliant when i asked they said cockily "i would sell it if it wasn't " quess what it wasn't !!! i had to wait around for about a hour before i got service (they were to busy drinking coffee and smoking cigarette with there friends. and come to find out i paid 300 dollars to much to boot !!! i should have listened to my friends and went to the see the the other scott on 82!!! never going back read more
