I never understood the need for a makeup store to be this large. I mean they could honestly put all of this into a smaller space and still get their point across. I understand that they do more than just have makeup for purchase, but this size is a little over the top. Not to reader: I did not come in this store for myself. I was out with family and my mom and sisters wanted to stop in here. While I was bored walking about like a toddler in here following them, they enjoyed themselfs. They went about the store and found more than they probably wanted, me, it was like looking at foreign objects. I will say that the staff in here are very approachable. They go above and beyond to help a customer. They know exactly what you are talking about even if you give them the smallest description of an item. They are also able to help you choose an item that matches your complexion. From what I remember they have a rewards program. So if you are a makeup freak you could benefit from this. But again, why so big? read more

I would never have a reason to go to Ulta other than to browse the makeup and hair products and fantasize about having skills to make purchasing any of these products worthwhile. Then my sister mentioned they do an incredible job of waxing eyebrows..... So intrigued, I drove over to Ulta without an appointment and asked if it was possible to get my eyebrows waxed. I've never had an experience like this- especially considering I was sitting in the middle of a store. They could take me right away, and the lady was incredible. She's the only person who does the waxing- she keeps your shape and doesn't wax it too thin. But the best part (other than she was beyond friendly and from Chicago)- was she used the makeup and products surrounding her to hide my redness so I could continue effortlessly throughout the rest of my day without feeling self-conscious. (No more rushing home or asking yourself- "Are they staring at those red streaks above my eyes?") It was quick, easy and my brows were rockin. I would love to be a regular. read more

This review is for the hair salon in Ulta - I went to Ana and she absolutely killed it with my blowout! It was gorgeous! I was visiting from out of town for a wedding. I get blowouts weekly where I am from so I'm picky when it comes to how they're done, and she sincerely did one of my favorite styles to date... all high-end products used and only $40... Dear Ulta, If I lived here, we would have to break up. This location has awful customer service. I walked in on a slow Wednesday. There was hardly anyone in the store. No "Hey how are you doing?" or "How can I make you feel pretty today?" or "Damn girl! This humidity is doing a number on your curls. Let me see how we can help you!". With the right approach, they could have sold me $300 in unneeded product if it would have magically taken the curly fro away. But nothing. Not a peep. I watched a cashier spend ten minutes struggling to enter another customers email address into the system. Then stood there while another cashier ignored me in line. All of this leads me to presume that Ulta must be far superior closer to the headquarters in Romeoville, Illinois and get worse in quality the further away you go. Normally, I shop within a 30 mile radius of that. I should stick to that if I want any service. read more

Make sure you have the right time for your hair appointment I showed 5 minutes early for my appointment and had to wait for almost 2 hours get my hair done. No apologies. made me feel like it was not appreciated or not wanted there . It's not my fault that people can't show up for their appointments on time I should not have had to wait for 2 hours to get my hair done no discount no apologies and horrible service don't know if I'll ever go back there again. It's a good store to get hard-to-find items locally but the service leaves something to be desired. Management is non-existent, either in store or salon. They do seem overly concerned with shoplifting and will eschew helping customers in favor of following specific people around the store. Once when I was getting my hair done, a manager told my stylist to watch a customer. The stylist let me know that her attention would be on the service she was providing to me. That stylist is no longer at the salon. There's high turnover of stylists so if you find one you like, make a connection so you can follow your stylist. Recently I had a gel manicure removal that absolutely ruined my nails. The experience lasted 3 hours. No manager ever came by, although a stylist accused me of getting a "cheap manicure at one of those Vietnamese places" when my manicurist asked for advice. For what it's worth, I had the original manicure done in a five-star world-renowned spa/salon while on vacation. Ulta corporate gave me the runaround about any kind of restitution and refused to handle the issue in writing, pawning it off on the district level which never got in touch with me. I ended up with eight broken nails, three of which broke more than once, and one of which broke below the quick. My nails were very healthy and strong before this experience. When I contacted Ulta about the experience, I wanted to make sure that the manicurist received training (I found out 90 minutes in that she'd never removed a gel manicure and, since it was my first, I had as much experience as she did) and that the company knew about the stylist's somewhat racist comment and refusal to help as well as the manager who never showed herself to see why a simple gel removal was taking three hours. I've had good luck at the brow bar but given my most recent experiences, I'll get my services elsewhere. Remember: there's a Sephora at the local JCP which has great service & selection of the same items and there are many many salons in the area that provide personal service and recourse when you have any issue. Ulta doesn't care what your experience is, locally or at the corporate level. read more

I made an appointment with Doris to get my eyebrows waxed. I was actually super late to my appointment. By the time I got there she was on her way out the door, but she agreed to still see me. She took such time making my eyebrows look perfect. I've been having my eyebrows waxed for years and I have never had such an experience. I won't go anywhere else now. read more

I have been to a few other ULTA's before and have always been happy. I'm a hair stylist and make up junkie so it's like a little slice of heaven! Unfortunately, the last time I was in it was dirty, shelves were left half stocked, and boxes were even left in the middle of aisles like someone just got up and left what they were doing. They also seemed to be out of every fair shade of make up in the store, but it could have just been a fluke timing thing. The bathroom in the back by the salon was gross too, I had to change my daughter and was not very comfortable doing it in there. The one positive was that a few of the employees did ask if I needed help locating anything. read more

Madison has always done a great job with my hair so it is unfortunate that I won't be returning due to poor management. The general and district managers decided not to open as scheduled on 12-17-16 due to inclement weather. At least one other salon customer and I drove in snow and ice to arrive at an empty store. When I called later in the day I expected the store manager to apologize for my inconvenience, accept responsibility for her poor planning, and promise to do anything possible to make sure that it never happened again. Instead she just blamed her team for not calling me and defended her cockamamie plan, which was apparently to make a last second judgement call. I called the corporate office, made it abundantly clear that I was more upset with the store manager's response than I was for what actually happened, and I was told to expect a return call from her. Instead I got a call from the salon manager, who was courteous and informed me that I would not be charged for my rescheduled appointment. When she informed me that as far as the store manager was concerned this should also constitute my follow up call I apologized to her in advance that she would have to endure my 5 minute lecture on her store manager's lack of leadership and management skills. A genuine apology and an effort to do better next time would have gone a lot farther than a $25 gift card. read more

Had my brows done today by Doris. She was incredible, extremely friendly and precise. I really appreciate that they cover the redness with makeup and fill in your brows after their done. It felt more like a spa day than a normally rushed eyebrow waxing at the nail salon. I highly recommend calling and seeing when Doris is there and having her do your brows! read more

They do have products that I really like. As far as staff, it is hit and miss. Either very helpful or so not. I had one of the worst eyebrow waxes ever. It has been a couple months now, and they are just starting to look normal again. First, I asked for them to be left thicker. Instead, I received thin brows that were way over rounded. The arches were in different places. Stray hairs above brow...and worst part was one was waxed about 1/4 inch further over on one side. That is what is still not quite grown back yet. And I waited for the" eyebrow" girl. I expected to have a decent wax, not a mess. Also, who wants to sit right in front of the store getting eyebrows done in a chair? I will never return for another service. I would trust Walmart first.....what does that tell you? But I will buy products because they have the market cornered in the area. read more

Hi-I made a $50 make up lesson appt. with your salon in Altoona, PA for Friday 8/25/17. When I made the apt, I told the associate that I get off work at 5 PM and would come directly there. She said that was fine. When I got to the apt on Friday, 2 associates and the salon manager were all rude and basically yelling at me because I didn't get there until 5:25 and the person who I was scheduled with left b/c she was tired of waiting on me. I tried explaining numerous times that I told the person who I made the apt with on the phone that I would NOT be there by 5 PM. I had told the person it would be at least 5:15 or so when I got there and she said that was ok. No one seemed to care! So, then the manager rounds up someone to do my make up.....this associate was very nice, but sorry, no make up professional. She basically told me how she puts on her makeup and used what brands she uses for herself. I felt like I was paying top dollar to have my best friend do my make up, which is not what I had in mind. I showed her pics and told her my goal was to get a simple updated makeup look that I could do daily and wanted to know how to spruce it up for an upcoming family wedding. She did not give me options or pointers of what would look good on me, She caked a ton of pancake makeup on my face and barely did my eyes. When I asked about eyeliner or curling my eyelashes to make them look better she said "yeah you can do that if you want".......what a joke. This was one of the most unprofessional salons I have ever been to! Then when I did ask to write down some of the products I did actually like, she said just take a picture of all of the products and bring them in, someone could figure them out. I also did not like the foundation and concealer she used and she didn't change it, just kept caking more on. My family actually laughed at me when they saw my makeup and my husband was furious that I "paid" someone to do it . I did purchase a few of the items, but will be returning them as I have another make up session scheduled at a competitor salon this week and plan to spend my money there. As the appt. went on, the manager kept trying to be fake nice to me after the fact that she yelled at me and acted as if I was nothing but an inconvenience by showing up late. Your staff and manager desperately need lessons in customer service and make up application/instruction if you are going to advertise this service. What a mess! I plan to spread the word so others don't waste their time and money on your salon. Sorry, I'm not usually this type of person, but as the weekend went on, I became more furious about this entire situation! read more

Typically, I only occasionally visit this store to browse and dream of the day I finally and miraculously know how to do all of the girly stuff other women seem to know. However, I recently visited this store with money in my pocket and a dream in my heart - to finally locate the perfect foundation. I wandered around the various makeup kiosks that appeared to be likely spots for assistance from one of the knowledgeable sales people. That did not happen. After 25 minutes, a sales person finally came by and asked those around me if they needed help. When they declined, I asked if I could have some help. The saleswoman found a makeup for me, the price was right, but the application brush cost as much as the product. I asked if there were any alternatives to said magically infused brush. Nope. I asked if she could recommend another product. Nope. I asked if there was anything possibly she could suggest short of a paper bag to wear over my head. Nope. I left discouraged and feeling anything but pampered and girly - which is really the only reason to shop there at all. read more
