The hair dresser Shawnta is listed as someone who cuts childrens hair so I booked an appointment with her and showed up on time. When she looked at my grandson she literally got a disgusted look on her face and walked off. She comes back with a booster and said I don't really like working with kids, so I say oh and she sees if someone else will cut his hair. The 4 people then have a chat on who will cut his hair. States I would just take him to Sharkeys and was told that was a good idea and walked off. If you don't like to work with kids take it off of your profile!!!! I really dislike this Ulta. They FAIL every time I go in. Walking out I never fail to kick myself for not making the longer drive to the Odessa one in hope that its a smidge better than this one. In a nut shell they are out of everything I need every time. Nothing is stocked or where it should be. Customers are always digging through there overstock drawers searching for what they need. When women go into the make up store, they pretty much already know what they like and what they need. Like me, I do not deviate when it comes to my skincare needs because at the ripe age of 35, I know what works for me and no I do not want to compromise on it. Especially when it'll cost you 40 bucks to try something that may not work and this store in particular will always deliver a HORRIBLE customer service experience. If it doesn't work I have to try and return it and make another stop in one of the worst stores in Midland, Tx. I went for brushes today. I have several at home that are falling apart because like today I had to compromise on the products I like because what I want isn't in. My boyfriend was more help in there today than the staff. So I can't find the brush I want so I search for someone to help. I can't find anyone. My boyfriends scouts for one and just shrugs like wow. There were three associates standing around at the entrance of the store that stared at us when we came in. So I finally find a lady rifling through boxes to stock product. I said Mam? Mam? I'm getting the impression she is purposely trying to ignore me or maybe look invisible. Looks up with a deer in headlights look. Made me pause I was afraid I made a mistake and was harassing another lost lady like myself that didn't work there. Can you help me find a makeup brush? It doesn't seem like its in stock and I want to make sure before I have to get a different one. She told me if there was any they'd be in the drawers under the display. I told her I went through them already and I really want that particular brush. Any chance there is some in the back? Nope they'd be there. I just wanted her to look through again in case I missed it because you know, I do not work for Ulta. So figuring out I wasn't going to let the issue go until she actively tried helping me look. She aggressively goes through the drawer. Well it's not there. Okay are there other brushes here that would be comparable? If we have any they're on the other side of the store on isle 4. I just accept this lady is not lifting a finger for me so I take myself to the other side of the store. There was another associate over there completely ignoring me and my boyfriend who are obviously trying to find something to no avail. I end up having to settle for the same brush I have at home that isn't comparable to the one I want as it is actively falling apart at home. It's also a 1/3 of the cost of the one I needed. I've never had such a hard time spending money anywhere else but this Ulta has it down. I go up to buy an item I don't want. The associate helping me Tricia, asks me if I found everything I was looking for. I told her nope. She stopped and looked at me confused and startled? Well what happened? I told her that whenever I come in what I need is always out of stock and I can't get any good help finding it. She asked if I wanted her to help me? I told her if she was able to. The last girl I asked for help said if it's not where we looked out on the floor they don't have it. She said there were boxes of merchandise in the back that were not open and she could see if it was back there. The girl next to her, not addressing me, told her they weren't open so we don't have it. Very rudely which put Tricia in a tough spot while she is trying to actually give good customer service. She apologized and said she was sorry shouldn't couldn't help more but apparently no one could go open a box for me. She was embarrassed at the lack of customer service she couldn't give me. Do not come here for a haircut unless you want one that a 3 year old could do. I asked for layers and to fix my bangs and keep them long. I have straight across cut bangs and "layers" an inch above where my hair ends. Oh and the person who was originally was suppose to cut my hair couldn't (no big deal, so someone else squeezed me in) but was incredibly rude because I didn't answer my phone and my voicemail was full and gave me the attitude of a pubescent teenager. Don't talk to customer or potential customers terribly and don't cut their hair bad when you offer to squeeze them in. She's here on Yelp, and she's the BEST!). Ok, back to Ulta..as horrible as the Odessa store is, the Midland store is the opposite! Management is friendly, counter girls are helpful, they don't give you a hard time if you need to make a return, and the store is not messy like the Odessa one. Everytime I go to Ulta the employees are always super kind and very helpful! I have never gotten a employee that doesn't know what their talking about or is rude. Just this Monday I was with a friend and she was looking for eyelash glue with the little brush on it. She didn't really know how to explain it or what it was called but the lady knew exactly what she ment and took us to them! When we checked out we got a very friendly lady! I didn't have an account yet, and when she asked for my phone number I didn't realize she was searching for my account. So it wasn't working she was very patient and kind. have a pretty frizzy tightly curled afro and I heard about the KeraStraight service offered at the Ulta salon in Midland TX. I called the salon and asked about the treatment. I spoke to a gentleman about the treatment and emphasized my hair type and texture. I asked him several times if the treatment would reduce my frizz and make my hair more manageable and he said it would. I made it clear i wanted to retain my curls but lose the frizz. I also asked him if the woman who did these treatments would be comfortable with my hair saying i'd rather not go there and waste my time and he again assured me that it would be okay and that i wouldn't run into any problems. I arrived at the salon a half hour early for my noon today ( 4/24/14) appointment and had to wait until around 12:30 before speaking to anyone. When i spoke to the stylist she basically told me that she couldn't do anything for my hair and that it wouldn't make a difference. (which is contrary to the information on the KeraStraight website). She kept saying that the treatment was primarily for long hair and even then the frizz remains until after they blow dry and straighten it. She basically said that it would do nothing for my hair. Then later asked me if I wanted to try it anyway. I was made to feel like my hair was not good enough and this whole exchange took place in a public place. I felt shamed and embarrassed especially because the information I was given by the stylist was inconsistent with what i saw on the product's website. I'm not sure what was really going on here but there are a few options. #1 she was uncomfortable with my hair and was trying to get out of doing it. If this was the case, she should have just said that or better yet, the gentleman i spoke to on the phone should have told informed me so i wouldn't have wasted my time even showing up. #2 she was inproperly trained on the application and use of the product and if so, shouldn't have been allowed to touch anyone's hair at ulta. #3 the product's webpage and ulta's page misrepresent the use of the product and thus mislead customers. In any case. I have never felt so ashamed and embarassed in my life. I will never enter an Ulta again and i will warn everyone away from Ulta. Don't know his name... would not help her and was really mean to her. He was more interested in going out that night than helping the my stylist finish the clients that HE told her to work in.... you could tell she was new there, and I'm mostly satisfied with my cut..... but the service was horrible. A complete cluster fuck. If the other stylists there would have helped her finish the clients THEY told her to work in it would have been a different story... We had a great experience at the salon today. My teenage son (age 14) needed a haircut, and we didn't have an appointment. Veronica (front desk) was very nice and helpful. So was the stylist, Joe. Even though there weren't any openings, he offered to squeeze us in while his other client's color was processing - in the adjacent chair (he didn't leave her unattended). Also, he asked my son how he wanted his hair cut instead of asking me. I appreciate that he treated my son with that kind of respect. We will definitely go back. read more

My wife and I were on a trip to Midland and stopped at the Mall. My wife had recently had her hair butchered by another stylist in Lubbock. On impulse, she decided to see if a stylist at Ulta could help her. She got Katelyn and loved her! Katelyn took the time and care to make sure the cut was exactly what my wife asked for. I wish we had gotten her last name; my wife says she plans to make the three hour drive to see Katelyn again the next time she needs her hair cut. Avoid this salon at all costs!!! VERONICA: Hair was cut by a woman named Veronica. She was extremely rude/fiesty and arrogant, which was ironic for her lack of intelligence and hair-cutting skills. While trying to explain what haircut is wanted (a faux hawk) and showed her pictures, she constantly interrupted with unintelligent, rude remarks and questions regarding the haircut requested. A hairstylist should listen to what the client wants and provide it, not question it. It seemed to me she did not know how to cut a faux hawk... and it turned out I was right. She randomly grabbed some hair from the middle-top of the head and started trimming it, without actually evenly sectioning/separating it. Then she trimmed the sides to a shorter length, which is correct... however, leaving the whole back untrimmed. Additionally, she did not blend the sides towards the middle-top faux hawk area (even though it was requested to do so). The whole hair-cut (including shampoo and styling) literally took a total of 10 minutes. End results: looks like an uneven "BOWLED" faux hawk lying on top of shorter sides with a thick back. I do not understand if she was: 1) unintelligent 2) lazy 3) didn't give a crap 4) in a rush 5) half-a$$ing 6) all-of-the-above Then she charged more than what the price is for "men's haircut" -- price should be $25, but she charged $36. The worst "hairstylist" in history, no joke. Anybody without a license can do a better job than her, she shouldn't be allowed to have a hairstylist license. Seriously. No professionalism nor skills. Because of Veronica, I'd give a rating of a "0" on Yelp if I could. JERRY: I have requested side-layers and all-over layers, but apparently a hairstylist named Jerry couldn't successfully satisfy a basic request. Layers, c-mon... I showed Jerry pictures of typical long-layered hairstyles, however he gave me a poor version of Jennifer Aniston's hairstyle (which I never even requested Aniston's hairstyle). Told him I want all-over layers, he only gives me barely any noticeable layers on the back saying that my hair is too thin. I've gotten all-over layers many times and it always looked fine. It seems like the hairstylists at Ulta are poor listeners and prefer their opinions over the client's request. Jerry washed my hair then blow dried my hair completely dry. Then all he did was started "slithering" the scissor through my hair to give me some "layers." In the past, I've always had hairstylists actually sectioning through my hair and cutting layers in the air through the sections... not just running a scissor and "slithering" through my dried hair that is completely all combed flat down. I mean, anybody could do that themselves in the mirror -- just slither through the bottom sides with a scissor... Same as Veronica's situation, I don't know if Jerry was also lazy by taking the "short-cut" easy way out to giving "layers." But in this case, Jerry was not rude and actually have scissor skills versus Veronica whom actually lacks any skills. I just wish Jerry have listened better and not take the "short-cut" way and give me uneven and sloppy "layers"... CRYSTAL: My mom had her hair cut by Crystal, who actually did a decent job for her level. My mom had an angled-bob cut and it was done well, except the layers on the back were shorter than requested. Otherwise, my mom's haircut looked fine. Crystal is the "lower level" at the salon compared to Jerry who is like the "director" or something of that sort, but she charges a lower price and ironically, cuts hair better than Jerry and Veronica! Why? Because Crystal listened well, seemed to care, and was focused (not in a hurry). Overall experience, I will never go back to this ULTA hair salon ever again. Ok I was worried about my appointment at ulta salon because of the online reviews. But I now think the only people that are reviewing Are people that had problems. I saw Robert today and he was great. When I first got there he took the time to explain to me what needed to be done to get my hair healthy again. And then took time to help me decide what color treatment that I wanted. This was the longest salon appointment that I have ever had but that was due to the condition of my over processed hair. I went in to buy some products and there was a stylist who was really helpful on what was best for my hair so I decided to go in and actually get my hair done. I went for some highlights and haircut. at first I was worried when he put me under the drier to do someone else's hair and didn't like when someone else washed my hair since I am paying HIM for HIS time not for someone else who doesn't even know what we had agreed for my hair, but he did come as soon as the girl finished washing and did the rest himself and I love my hair. I have to say every time I pass through the mirror I have to stop and look at myself! I am definitely going back, although I would give the last star if he did the whole service himself.
