Let me tell you my experience with Ulta in the Dallas, TX, and Phoenix, AZ area is wonderful. But I went to visit my mother in Peoria, IL. The experience was less than desirable. My mother and I enter and we are ignored. No one greets us and asking for help is a nuisance it seems to the staff. Another consumer comes in and they are greeted with zeal and as if my mother and I were invisible. I am ready to spend money on Fenty products. But still no help. The staff is busy helping the clientele that has come in behind us. My mother is older but she still loves to wear makeup. I told her about Ulta. Too bad the experience for her actually hurt her. Watching her be hurt by poor and rude customer service allows me to know this must be the standard at this location. You treat all clients the same. A simple hello may I help you? Let us decide if we want to be helped or not. This one experience may have me rethinking how I will operate with the brand in its entirety. read more

Do not, I repeat do not get your hair done by Joelle! She took it upon herself to chop my 12 year olds daughter's hair off, when we were only in there to get only highlights! I went into the bathroom her hair was full length, came out and she has BANGS! I was so angry and she thought this was perfectly fine because my daughter didn't say anything. read more

This location is a bit of a disappointment. Chains can only be as good as their employees and as many things that are successful elsewhere, they come to Peoria to fail. Items are very frequently out of stock and associates are not friendly or knowledgeable about the products. They have a loyalty card but you have to remember to get it out yourself when checking out, they never ask you for it. Their return policy is flexible, they take back used items with or without a receipt. Also, it's probably superficial but when I go to a beauty store, I expect to see staff with hair and makeup done. I mean, it's all right there in the store. Do they not let any saleswomen touch it? Because it looks that way, most of the staff has on zero makeup and their hair is hanging in their faces or in ponytails. Doesn't really matter to my purchases but it's disappointing. I just expect people who take jobs in this industry to be more enthusiastic about it. I don't want to have to know every cream and color out there, I want to just let someone who knows decide that stuff. I don't feel like that is an option here. Sometimes when I ask about a product I have seen in a magazine, they have to look all around for it like they have never heard of it. Maybe the in-store education is lacking but it seems empty enough in there most nights for the staff to familiarize themselves with the products. I thought this place might give Sephora in JC Penney a run for it's money but IMO, it is definitely not. read more

While I'm usually a little dissapointed in the staff working the 'store' part of Ulta, I'm a frequent salon client and have never had a problem. The girls I've dealt with at the front desk usually look bored and bothered when they have to help you pay, but that is my only complaint. Salon wise, I go to Mindy for everything and she is always excellent and professional. She has a lot of experience and it really shows! I really like using her because she is very nice and professional and I feel like I can trust her with my hair. Most importantly, she listens to what you want and doesn't try to talk you into anything you don't want - my hair always turns out the way I had pictured it in my head before the appointment. I've never left the salon unhappy, and I plan to keep going back. read more

I have to agree about Dustin--he is awesome! He really listens to what you want, assesses your hair condition and needs, and proceeds to do an amazing job. He is also incredibly knowledgeable about products and I found him very informative in this regard. In fact, I don't think I've ever been to someone so impressive in this respect. He could tell me the benefits and downsides of any product I asked him about. He should have his OWN salon. If he did and it was remotely near me, I would be his most loyal client! Sadly, I don't live anywhere near Peoria, so I doubt I'll get to go to him again! Too bad for me! read more

Dustin is amazing at the salon. He has fresh ideas, listens to your vision, and makes it come to life with his skill. I don't have an opinion on the store, but I think it's better than East Peoria. read more

We've twice used this store's services. Both times were awful. I originally attributed our experience with the make-up artist to my daughter not telling her exactly what she wanted and then not speaking up afterwards when she hated what they did, but now I question training in general. I wish I could post photos here of what they did to my daughter's hair. Not only did they obviously mess up the bleaching process and double charge her, but they refused to take any responsibility for the hair and would only refund the over-charge, not the actual service. My daughter has seen 3 different stylists since then for opinions on what to do to fix the hair, all of whom were horrified at the job done. The manager of the salon told me you always bleach hair starting with the roots, in part because the hair further from the head is "more dead" than the hair closer to the scalp and you don't want to damage it. A simple internet search tells me that is wrong. We will not be going back and we will tell everyone who asks to never, ever go there. read more

The girls they hire are young. Have no actual experience with makeup. I had to go back 3 times for the right shade of foundation. They do not know much about the products and on top of this at both Peoria and East Peoria locations they harrass you every 5 min if you "need help". If I need help I am 40 years old I'll come ask you. You can not enjoy your shopping experience and just browse and look at everything and take your time looking because it's do you need help and ppl in your face every 5 min sometimes even less. I am A newer customer so there is alot I have never seen or knew about. So I'd like to look and take my time looking at the products. I spend alot of money on these products. So I should be left alone and not stalked through the store. They do it to my husband too. He gets so weirded out he doesn't even want to go into the store. So I have to shop alone.. seriously asking someone once is fine but all they do is chase ppl. away and I don't know how many times I have not gotten everything I wanted because I get annoyed. They have lost out on alot of money. These ppl have cameras everywhere so they don't need to stalk ppl. read more

Ever since they got rid of that horrid woman who ran the store (You know who I mean) this place has blossomed, and I no longer dread coming in. Christy is my favorite, she is always super knowledgeable and helpful. Kim and Emily as well, and the salon stylists really know their stuff. read more

I went in for a simple a line bob... I came out with a lopsided mess. One side was clearly longer, the back was a choppy mess. I showed photos and explained what I wanted... I paid 52.00 and a 10.00 dollar tip for my hair to be ruined. I called told her I wasn't happy, she said she could fix it but wouldn't be in for a week and a half... Who wants to look idiotic for that long. And really who wants someone who messed up their hair in the first place to fix it? So I went to Walmart on Allen rd to get my hair fixed, 15.00. I'm not happy at all. Don't waste your time thinking a higher price gives you better results... In this case, it doesn't. Don't go here!!! read more

I was new to Ulta until a friend told me to go to the new Peoria location. While I'm not impressed at ALL with most of the front desk/sales positions, the salon is another story. Everytime I call to make an appointment (and I'm not a 'regular', but I do get my haircut 3-4 times a year) I always get someone that is polite and friendly. They are all very nice and willing to work with you, and I think the manager that is in charge of the salon does a good job and keeps a close eye on everything in that portion of the store. Everyone seems organized and knowledgable. If you're not sure who to go to, Mindy, the manager is very experienced and personable and I think she does a very good job. She knows how to listen to what you want - unlike other horror stories I've heard where people end up getting their hair hacked too short or dyed a funny color. I wish I could say the same for the front part of the store. While it's clean and set up nicely, the girls up there are rarely helpful. They look bored, unkempt, and are sometimes downright rude or snappy. If Ulta would work on getting friendly people it would be perfect. read more

Don't ever write a check!! They'll mess it up and tell you it's been declined, when it actually went through! Then they embarrass you and give you a small piece of paper, telling you to call Telecheck to see why your check was declined. When I did, imagine my surprise to learn that the check was approved!! Not just the first time, but the second time it was run through the system!! Telecheck told me to have them call the Merchant number, of course by the time they got around to it, the Merchant part of Telecheck was closed. I was told by the manager of this location on 6-21 when this happened, that she would call first thing this morning, 6-23. When she hadn't called by 10:30 am, I called the store and heard a lot of excuses. I had to call Telecheck back myself and get an approval code so they can void my check, however the phone rings and rings, with no answer. As it stands, Ulta has been paid twice for my purchase!! I have NO reason to shop at this location, EVER! read more

The staff at this Ulta is absolutely terrible and annoying. If they aren't following you around they are condescending. If they aren't doing an awful job on your makeup, they are making you wait in long lines while they do the above. read more
