I tried trimming my hair and bangs, key word being tried. Apparently I'm not the professional stylist I thought I could be. I was freaking out because I had an important meeting at work the following day and had to find a legit stylist to clean up the mess I made. I remembered seeing a salon area here so I called for a last minute hair appointment and was lucky enough to get an appointment that night. Nicole Asbar was my stylist and she did an incredible job! She really took her time to even everything out and went out of her way to show me how to style it while I wait for the shorter pieces to grow out. My hair looks great now, it actually looks like the cut was intentional! Lol I wouldn't recommend cutting your own hair but I would recommend booking an appointment with Nicole. After letting my hair grow out for 5 months after a too-short, bad haircut, I went to the Ulta salon, thinking it would be a cut above Supercuts,. I specifically said LONG layers, not too short. Instead, it's a chopped-up haircut. The layers aren't blended but instead look like I have two different haircuts, one on the bottom layers, then short and choppy on top.--just what I said I didn't want. Now I will have to give it another four.or five months to grow out before anything can be done to correct it. In the meantime, I look ridiculous. read more

The lady's here are super helpful and none judgmental! Their men's selections are super small but the lady's are very knowledgeable and sure as heck guided me in the right direction as far as what to buy and what not to buy. I'm always happy to shop there and feel comfortable enough that they are not just going to try and sell me everything. I want to preface this by saying I've never written a review like this before but I want to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else, especially someone who wouldn't speak up after paying for an unacceptable service. Over the weekend I booked a last minute appointment with a master stylist for a haircut at the salon. I had long hair, and wanted a shorter length with long layers. The stylist was friendly and talkative, asked me where I parted my hair, though added that the way she would cut the hair will allow for a part on any side - this is important later on because I didn't bring it up or ask for that; I only ever part my hair on one side. She styled it very differently than I would (blow out, super flouncy) which looking back now I think was to hide the mistake. I got home, washed my hair, and styled it the way I would. I IMMEDIATELY noticed a huge mistake. It was like I had 2 different haircuts at the same time. One side seemed okay, but the other looked like a mullet. There was no blending, no gradual length change...just a 3 inch dramatic drop from one spot to the next, that spanned from the front of my face to back behind my ear. There is no way to hide this. Because my appointment was the last one on Sunday evening, the store was closed and I couldn't leave a message when I tried calling. I called first thing in the morning and no manager was in the building. I was told they'd call as soon as they came in. I waited a couple hours after the time I was told I'd get a call back, and finally decided to just call again. The manager Vickie is the one who answered, and while she wasn't unkind or rude, she definitely tried to invalidate my feelings and experience multiple times. The first thing she said was that she's never had an issue with that particular stylist when getting her hair done. Great, I'm glad she was able to cut her manager's hair properly, but that wasn't the case with me. Then she offered for me to come in and have another stylist fix it. I declined because I paid extra for a "master" stylist to cut my hair the first time, and I was no longer comfortable with anyone from that salon trying to fix it. Fast forward, I went into the store to show her my hair. She immediately told me that she has done hair for over 20 years and knows what to look for. She looked at the obvious mistake and instead of apologizing or agreeing, she said "Well, she cut it evenly. If you just part it in the middle it would be fine." I explained that it is not even, and I only part my hair one way, ever. I told her that this was explained to the stylist and that the stylist cut AND styled my hair with the correct part, so this shouldn't be an issue. On top of that, I DID try to part it in the middle at home after seeing the mistake and trying to find a way to fix it, and parting in the middle did absolutely nothing but make it look worse because it is unnatural for me. Again invalidating, she said "well it's even, but I guess I can see the disconnect." I had my young daughter with me and in no way wanted to argue so I left it at that and waited for my refund because I now need to go to another salon and attempt to get this fixed, if that's even possible. I've never complained about a haircut or service in my life, so this was difficult for me as it was, but to have a manager completely act as though she was doing me a favor by refunding me is completely unacceptable. Like I said, she wasn't unkind or mean, but she was definitely purposeful with her words and tone in such a way to make me feel like I was overreacting and there was nothing wrong with my haircut. I do not recommend the Phillipsburg Salon at Ulta, regardless of the stylist's "status." read more

I'm very disappointed at this location I have 3 daughters and every two weeks I come in here with my daughters to buy hair products make up and other things in between I am a rewards member but I am also a district manager for retail and I am very aware of my surroundings with that being said the customer service here is horrendous the staff is not professional they do not understand that the guest do not pay for the products they actually pay for the experience which means: helping Vs. Following guest around without approaching,educating the customer on products and recommending in order to have a high average ticket and a returning customer this is what I pay for I don't only pay for the products I can buy this online if I want to but I also pay for the experience how are they treating their customers will determine if this customer will continue coming to this location this is a frequent behavior that I see and I've been coming here since 2021 I would love a district manager or regional manager to contact me I would love to discuss how we should teach our staff the proper verbiage and communication skills in order to enhance and maximize the business. Manager are rude not even a smile on their face I asked for a blower that cost $600 and I was aware that there was $100 promotion off and the manager did not even bother to educate me on the benefits of buying this hair dryer and even the current promotion that shows the work ethics at this location. Right off the back she lost $600 in one transaction. You can look up my transactions every time I come here I spend no less than $200 and this is biweekly because I have a teenage daughter that loves make up and hair products. Hope this can help in training your staff and giving the ultimate experience and not worrying about personal gossip or what they're doing over the weekend in front of customers. 12/12/23. read more

Had a wonderful experience at the salon at this Ulta! Originally, I was a little worried with all of the mixed reviews, but I ended up having been taken care of very well. I had a 1:00 hair appointment with Molly and a 2:00 makeup appointment with Megan in preparation of my senior prom, and they really did a great job. They were both very accommodating, especially Megan, who did a great job applying makeup to my vitiligo. My time with Molly ended before my appointment with Megan was supposed to start, but she took me then anyway and I actually left the salon a good 30 minutes before I expected to! Overall positive opinion of the place, and I'd definitely recommend it to a friend. read more

I love ULTA; however I recently had a blow-out that cost me $40. When the stylist finished my hair (which is naturally curly) she was kind enough to put in some "waves" and sprayed my hair. Before I got out the chair I could see frizz from the back of my hair. After I called her attention to the frizz, she fixed it, but there's no way she didn't notice it while standing behind me! The final results were mediocre at best, save your money. I could have done a better job at home. Maybe it was the stylist, I don't know, but I'll never spend another dime in their salon. read more

I am giving this store one star because of their customer service. I went in to do my hair with Sami and she was simply just charging me for every little stuff. If you get your hair colored - you should get a wash for free, how ridiculous is it to charge 37$ for a wash ! there was no options given on what blowout we would like. Just for a simple hair highlights she was charging around 180$ I think store is very highly priced. Just got home from my second experience with the new Ulta in Phillipsburg, NJ. Everyone I've run in to so far has been super nice and helpful. I've been a loyal Ulta shopper for a few years so it's nice to have a store closer to home. My first trip was a few weeks ago, I scheduled an appointment to have my 4 year olds hair cut, she's got crazy curly hair- Dionna in the salon did an amazing job! She was super patient with my daughter and knew how to handle her wild hair. Today, I had a cut and color done for myself- I once again scheduled with Dionna, she does awesome work and obviously loves what she does. All of the ladies in the salon are friendly and from what I've seen, they know what they're doing. Don't hesitate to visit the new ulta and the salon inside! read more

I recently had a very positive experience at Ulta, specifically with Sami, the salon manager! My husband and I decided to go on a last minute date and I had the opportunity to run in to Ulta and treat myself to a little sprucing up! (I was able to go as a walk-in on a Friday night. Super lucky!) I went for a wash and blow-out + style, as well as full make-up. Sami did it all. My hair turned out so nicely and I received so many compliments later that night. Sami helped me transform my normally poker-straight hair into beautiful, gentle, natural-looking curls all with the help of a simple curling wand and her expert skills. I was very happy with how my hair turned out. :) As for my make-up- well, Sami is a VERY talented make-up artist. However, her strength isn't simply derived from the fact that she can apply make-up with talent and has an eye for color; her greatest strength is that she knows the right questions to ask and is an excellent listener- resulting in a perfectly tailored look! She captured just the look I was going for and helped me emulate a natural, Instagram-worthy look ;) I highly suggest giving Ulta in Phillipsburg a try! Everyone working there is very friendly and kind, and you'll walk away feeling beautiful and amazing. (As for the prices- well, it's Ulta. It's a lot like Sephora in my opinion and, of course, you'll be paying more than you would for make-up at a drugstore or services at a barber shop. All prices for the salon's services are listed online, too; so, nothing should come as a shock.) Love that this Ulta is local and convenient! read more

I was visiting family in the area and desperately needed skin care products. My usual stuff from Sephora doesn't come in travel sizes and my skin was screaming from using grandma's choice bar soap on my face. I stopped at Ulta because it was way closer than the nearest Sephora, and I'm so glad I did. Lydia helped me with absolutely everything I needed! She picked out toner and moisturizer for me that worked with my skin type and slight rosacea. Her recommendations were so good I actually switched to those products when I got home. She also totally sold me on some cute little pallets that are perfect for traveling. I definitely spent way more than I intended to but honestly? No regrets. She seriously knows what she's talking about when it comes to beauty. So if you're looking for solid advice and seriously friendly service, check out this Ulta and their amazing employee Lydia! I am patient and will wait in line , but when you wait over 10 min while there are three employees behind the register-one ringing up customers and with a long line another employee starts closing a register . The third employee was doing nothing .Then when I'm finally able to be waited on there's no apology for the long wait and the cashier seemed annoyed to do her job. Next time I will get my smooth sexy hair product online somewhere else . Ulta needs to work on customer service. read more

I'm giving it 2 stars because my mother and I went there and the young lady who checked out my mom was beyond rude. The store is very clean and well set-up, however, they kept the old "promo" papers up on the different brands. My mom bought $35 worth of IT Cosmetics, and the promo (which did not have any dates on it) said you get a free under eye concealer or something like that. My mom went to check out and kindly asked the lady if she qualified for there freebie. The lady rudely said there were no promos for the product this week and that the sign she saw was old. My mom was polite and explained there was no indication of any expiration date, so she thought she would get a freebie. The lady got really annoyed, and then went and opened a cabinet hat had free samples. She didn't even bother to look for the correct item that the sign advertises. Instead she said, with a nasty tone, "just take this!" I wish I had jumped in and said something. It's not my mom's fault that your store failed to replace the out of date signs. Next time, maybe keep the promos up to date and when someone is polite about it, politely compensate. read more

first off just wanna say how happy i am to have an ulta less than fifteen min from my house! as an aspiring MUA i was completely lost when it came to starting my kit and also a kit is very expensive. i worked with a younger girl there who greeted me and was very accommodating with showing me the sales they had going on and handing me offer left and right. i was very impressed with her level of customer service and i feel management should know they are lucky to have her as an employee. i called ulta to find out her name i believe it was katlee. (dark hair and glasses) really hope that's her name. the salon manager gave us a coupon for the salon and was so sweet as well. seems like a great group of staff and i will be returning and ulta will be responsible for my never ending beauty debt ;) just kidding... but not lol read more

I had such a fantastic experience at Ulta that I needed to share. Recently I have been struggling with severe deep blind pimples along my chin area, it has been a nightmare that I just can't seem to shake no matter who I see or what products I use. I want to Ulta looking to buy whatever I could find and I ended up speaking to Kim who worked at the Skin Bar, I laid it all out there and on a Friday night she was able to get me in for an hour long facial treatment. She walked me through the entire process (this was my first ever facial) and made me feel very comfortable, even when things can get uncomfortable! She also told me what she thought was causing all of my problems which no other Derm had ever mentioned. I am letting everyone know because in all my times googling how to heal myself I never came across this as a possibility and I am hoping it can help someone else. Kim told me that my pores were so fine and tight and my skin was so dry that the oil was unable to get out causing the hair follicles to clog and become a blind pimple. It was honestly the first time my skin began to make sense to me in my 27 years! After the facial Kim recommended some products I could purchase but never pushed me to buy anything and gave me different price point options. I am just 4 days out from the experience but I can already tell with the facial and the new products my skin seems to be doing better. Sorry for the length but I really do highly recommend Kim if you need some skin help! read more
