Not too often we get to Gaylord. Even then we're usually just passing through. When we stop this is always on the list. We absolutely LOVE this Ulta! Before this location was built, We got most of Mrs. E's makeup at Sephora. But now we prefer to come here for the average makeup/skincare/beauty needs. It's wonderful that they have a mix of both higher end products as well as drugstore brands. They also offer a wider variety of products than those others. There's still items you might need to go elsewhere for, but this is a great place to start! The ladies are all terrific especially Koda and that chemist looking woman with the great sense of humor. I bought a temporary hair dye that the ultra clerk recommended. It wouldn't fade 3 weeks later. (Supposed to wash out 10 days max) When I returned to get a clarifying shampoo to quicken the fading of the dye, the sales clerk told me that I should soak my hair in hydrogen peroxide. I had already had told her that I had professionally bleached highlights. I am horrified!! That would make my hair melt off! I told her, and she backtracked saying that she knows nothing about hair. read more

I was in TC on vacation and forgot a specific hair product I can only find at Ulta. We were on our way somewhere and I ran in, grabbed what I needed and the hubby and I headed up front. The woman asked my rewards number and I told her I didn't have one. "Oh you have to sign up for the program!" "That's okay" "You get rewards for shopping here though, what's your phone number?" "No thank you I literally shop here once or twice a year so it's not worth it to me to sign up for that program." (getting irritated and trying to stay polite) "You'll get free stuff on your birthday when is your birthday???" I looked at her and firmly said "I am getting irritated" and she finally dropped it. Look, I get you want to sign people up and honestly, I am signed up but I don't carry the card, I didn't feel like giving my number since I was in a hurry and it became a principle thing after she kept pushing it. I just wanted to buy the friggin' hair spray and leave without being harassed which is what it felt like after having to decline FOUR TIMES. I've never been so close to walking out on a purchase in my life. I won't make the mistake of forgetting my hair product again or if I do, I'll just pull a ponytail for a week rather than risk dealing with that woman again. read more

My hair gets super light in the summer, then my roots grow in in the winter and it looks neglected. Went in to get partial highlights to blend the shade difference and make it look more natural. She killed it! I have never been happier with how my hair turned out at a salon. It looks so freakin natural, even better than what I was hoping for since I didn't want to straight up bleach and dye my roots. Thank you thank you! Highly recommend the stylists here. read more

Girly girl make-up and personal care heaven! Salon hair care products, high end cosmetics and drug store brands too. Fragrances for men and women. In store salon services. I love to hang out in this place for an hour or two, trying out the latest stuff from Urban Decay, Cargo, Laura Geller, Bare Minerals, Stila and more. Lots of parking, a big plus. The high end cosmetics are pricey, no bargains, but I think you get what you pay for. The good stuff doesn't run, smear or smudge as the day wears on, so I am willing to pay more for it. I like to hit Venus downtown first, a locally owned upscale cosmetic boutique, if I can, but sometimes Ulta is more convenient. read more

I came to the salon about a week before Mother's Day and I was hoping to get a silver or dark silver dye with a tint of blue in it and they told me that because my hair was colored a very dark ruby red that I would not be able to get that color, which I was fine with, they said that they could do a silver with a tint of violet instead. The only thing that I like about getting my hair done here it was the fact that the lady that was doing my hair did not talk to me a whole lot. I am not a very talkative person I do not like Smalltalk so I did enjoy that. But the vibe that she was giving me was that she just was not in the mood to do my hair at all. When she was washing my hair she was being a little rough, I don't know if you're supposed to be because of the bleach but she was clawing at my scalp a lot and that did hurt a little. When she did cut my hair there was a lot of small hair that she did miss that should have been trimmed and so now I have a long hair at the top of my head and then around it I have some hair that should've been buzzed off and it now looks like a weird little spikes throughout my hair. She bleached my hair about twice and then she cut my hair and she said that I was all set... She did not mention anything about coming back to do a third round of bleach or anything like that, just handed my receipt to go pay up at the front. I have spoken to other hairstylists and they all told me that I was completely ripped off by the store. I paid almost $200 for the hair that that I received, including the tip. Not very happy with this salon and I do not plan on ever going back again. I feel like I should get some sort of compensation because of this. Even though I'm not a very talkative person it should've been explain to me that I needed to come back if that was the case but instead I was just told that I was all set. read more

I was there February 27th to get some foundation.The said hello to me as soon as I walked in. Gina helped me find a foundation she did a great job and it matches me so good. The girl at the register lasay was super nice and gave me some free gifts and gave me a free shipping card to get the Jaclyn hill morphs pallet online that they didn't have.The store was clean and neat. This place is absolutely terrible. Every time I go in i have a horrible experience. It started in the salon when the manager did my hair and gave me huge chunky hi-lights even after I told her no. She showed me all these pictures of chunky hi-lights and I kept saying no. She knocked me in the head with the dryer and when I hated it she wouldn't let me leave until I told her I liked it. Other times were just riddled with poor service, people lying about deals, 0% effort from sales people and bad makeup advice. If you want good products they have them just don't let them touch you. Warning....don't take out an Ulta credit card. Worst experience ever, the bill envelope is very deceiving. $83.00 in late fees in two months only spent $30.00 at Ulta when I used this new credit card. Then had a terrible time trying to get them to cancel the card... ugh....never again. read more

The salon @ the TC ULTA is terrible. Not only did my stylist call me and tell me my appointment was on, but when I arrived, she made me wait for an hour and blamed the scheduling problem on the computer. While she spent that hour finishing another client, she completely ignored me and never apologized. I was planning on having my bridesmaids' and my hair and makeup done here, but after this experience with my trial, I will never go back. read more

I love to go to Ulta and browse. I do not always buy the premium products and often find that the ulta brand is never stocked well and never a good selection. This goes for all the non+premium products including makeup brushes. read more

Donna is the best stylist with color and cuts. She is extremely knowledgeable and goes out of her way to listen and discuss what you are wanting done. She has been in the business for almost 30 years- however just moved to Traverse City 4 months ago. I would highly recommend Donna. read more

I am a frequent shopper at Ulta, and usually have good experiences. However, I went there last night and I was very disappointed with the service o received. There was an older blonde woman working at the "high-end" makeup section and after she had finished with her previous customer (whom she treated very well - that was why I waited to ask her for help), I approached her and had similar questions to the girl before me. She treated me completely differently. She was very short with me and acted like I personally had ruined her day. She was really rude and made me feel like a waste of her time. I did find what I was looking for (no thanks to her, really) and the girl at the checkout was SUPER friendly and I got more help from her in that transaction than from the 5 minutes I spent with the other woman. They have a great selection and usually very good customer service. I recommend going, but buyer beware if you need any help. :/ read more
