I am very mixed here. I LOVED my haircut & color & Emily was a gem. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everyone at the salon and all of the assistants were so nice & super helpful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The last time I was in an Ulta was in PA & I was scarred for life. I went in for low lights and left a full blond. I am a natural redhead so seeing myself blond was very upsetting. I haven't dared to come back to Ulta since. My mom however goes regularly to Ulta to get her hair done & she has been nagging me to get mine done (ok, ok, it HAS been a while I admit) so I made an appointment with her stylist. I was very nervous. Very very nervous. When it was my turn, [[HIGHLIGHT]]Emily saw how anxious I was & immediately put me at ease. She was kind & friendly and listened to what it was that I wanted. She involved me in picking out my color & carefully explaining the mix she was going to use.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] First off, when she started cutting, there was a collective gasp from some of the customers watching as over a foot of hair was being cut off. I had to reassure them that this is what I wanted. Then came the coloring, oy did that take forever. Over an hour just to apply. Oy!!! She then took me to rinse it all out & wash my hair. OMG this is where I think I've fallen in love with getting my hair done again. She didn't just wash my hair, she gave me a scalp massage. It was heavenly. When she finished styling & I was all blown out I was amazed at how awesome my hair looked. Seriously. It's been a minute since it looked this good. I only have a couple of complaints. One was during this was how warm it was in the shop. Seriously. I felt like it was summer time and they didn't have an air conditioner. I didn't even wear a sweater or warm shirt but man, I was schfitzing! The next was finding something. All I wanted was to check out make up brushes but would have been late for my appointment if I kept looking. IMPOSSIBLE!! You'd think going to where it's labeled 'makeup' it might also include tools. When I tell you, the Ulta on settlers market made me an ultimate instead of Sephora beauty insider I mean, they have a lot of nice high-end stuff in this Ulta. Ulta don't usually. Ulta is also very clean and stocked shelves which I cannot say about Sephora lately and I used to not be able to say about many Ultas, but this also really stepped up their game. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff is very friendly very knowledgeable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have all the great product selection. Highly recommend. They also now carry Amica in store so it's not a Sephora exclusive so I mean this Ulta carries basically everything that's sephora would carry but it's cleaner. read more

This one is a bit smaller then the one I normally go to it's just convenient. They don't have some of the brands that some other locations carry. They do have the items that I used just wish that all Ulta stores are somewhat close to each other in products that they carry. read more

So many times I've gone to the Williamsburg location I dread it because, unfortunately, [[HIGHLIGHT]]they are not so nice or friendly[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] (I wish I got their names every time I encountered one, which has been about 3 specific employees). Sometimes I drive the extra 20 minutes to Newport News when I don't want to deal with some of the unfriendly employees at the Williamsburg location. I seen Conner today and she did an amazing job. I have a LOT OF HAIR and she didn't shy away from helping me match my color and get rid of my stubborn roots. She took the time to make sure the color was correct, took the time to apply it and really did a great job. She is a new stylist and is very careful and wants to do the best job. I asked to have my hair cut to my shoulders and I wanted a blunt cut. Cheyenne was my stylist. This is an easy cut but not for Cheyenne . My hair ended up being cut below my chin with extra hairs going past my chin. She was a complete mess, I am horrified by my haircut! Do not get this stylist she is a complete disaster read more

This place evens out to about average for a makeup store. I would say that the staff here are above average- regardless of who's working, it's easy to get help. Everyone here is friendly and knows a ton about makeup and all the products they carry. The reason I don't find this place above average is their product selection. They have the basics, a better selection than Target, but they're nowhere near the range of bigger Ultas or Sephoras (no Kat Von D). I wish they had the full range of Anastasia Beverly Hills products. They'll order more of something they carry if they're out of stock, but they don't carry a lot of what's in their inventory. Seems like the Kylie lip kit display is always empty. Don't expect them to have something specific, even though you can expect great customer service. read more

Got my haircut by Cari today and she was great! Saw on google she needed more clients so thought I'd give it go. Wasn't disappointed! My hair has been growing like crazy w/ prenatals and my ends were horrible, but I came out with my hair super soft and no more split ends! Cari was so nice and funny and kept me awake even though pregnancy has me so tired and sleepy all the time. I've used Ulta salon once before and was really happy with my hair service then as well. I like that they don't harass you about buying stuff like other salons do and the prices are very reasonable. Love how my hair looks and the service I got today at Ulta. This location has a lot of good deals and discounted items. I went to this particular location to visit the salon on my way back home to get a $10 pink extension deal for breast cancer. I didn't have to wait long as I was able to pick up some goodies. My name was called and now it's time for for me to get these cute little things put in. The young lady doing my hair piece seemed confused to where to place it on my hair. Another lady came over convincing me to put it in my curliest part of my hair and advised to just curl it with a curling iron. Wait, what? But my hair is naturally curly, I just wash and go, so I just can't put it there. After a few back and forth it's placed in my hair but I think I have to go to my home location to get it fix. When she gets there this old white lady told her that that mascara is not for women over 40!!!!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS AND I'M FURIOUS. I shopped at the Ulta Beauty in Williamsburg for the first time yesterday. The customer service was not great. The employees didn't greet me when I entered and didn't ask if I needed help. I had to go to the register and ask if someone could help my daughter and I and the lady stated someone would come right over. That never happened!! I had to go back to the register again, and Katherine helped. She was very nice and took her time explaining everything. The manager (I assume) told her she needed to come back to assist with the registers and didn't even ask if we were finished. I'm not sure if I will be going back to this store. I shop here VERY often. I've only had one bad time. In that time I had asked an employee if she could help me find a foundation and concealer that would match my skin (I am very fair so it is hard for me to find shades that match). She then tells me "what do you mean? They are all right there just swatch them yourself". I was so appalled at the response I immediately left. I could not believe how incredibly rude she was!!! However, the last time I went, there was a lovely esthetician who helped me find the right kind of skin care products for my skin type, she took her time with me and let me ask all the questions I wanted to. Emily at the Williamsburg VA location was awesome. Wish I could get her to move to Maryland! She did the best cut my hair has ever had. I made minimal requests and left it in her hands. My husband was so happy and surprised at the results. Emily had a lot of hair to deal with since it had not been cut in a year. Highly recommend her and the Salon. The store staff was helpful and allowed you space to browse. A great experience for my first trip away since COVID. All measures were taken and masks worn by all. read more

It's a very small Ulta, definitely not use to a stand alone that tiny. The staff was friendly enough. They greeted us and then left us alone to shop. Love it! They were buzzing around working which made it easy enough to get their attention if we needed anything. Def didn't profile us even though we were bumming that day. They treated us great. I've been here 4 times and 2 out of the 4 I had a bad experience. I've seen 3 different stylists and Johann is great, but the others I've been to were just bad experiences. Kendall was not friendly at all and I went in the get a root touch up with her. She put a glaze in my hair that to my horror, made my hair several shades darker. I can't remember the name of the other stylist that I had a bad experience with. But anyway, book your appointment with Johann and you will definitely be satisfied! I have visited this store on many occasions and spent a lot of money here since it opened. Today I went in for what I thought would be a quick trip to get a nice nude color eyeshadow duo. On a normal visit I walk in and I am greeted immediately and asked if I need help. Today there were 4 women working the floor. The one behind the register did greet me but as I walked around looking very confused no one approached me and seemed as if they were avoiding me. I patiently waited in the Benefit section to ask the employee working on brows to help me. Yet when she finished the client she walked away and avoided eye contact as well. I finally went to the cashier to ask for her help and she simply showed me where a product was. This visit was very disappointing. I left the store and I am now at Sephora that has one employee on the floor and still insisted on sitting me down to try an eye shadow look on me. read more

I work in ulta stores as a brand rep and have gotten my hair done by many hairstylists at various Ultas. Last Friday I had the privilege to sit in Emilie's chair in Williamsburg Ulta. I have very thick, coarse hair..and each time I color my hair it takes 4 hours and costs $200 plus. I explained to Emilee that I was on a budget and I hate being in a chair for 4 hours. She performed an accent highlight..to break up the roots and ended with the most beautiful blowout. Time in chair..one hour..the cost..under $100. I have known Emilee for a long time and I am so happy and grateful I sat in her chair. I have found my new stylist..a person who listened to me and did a fantastic job. I came in to get color and a haircut, brown overall and different color ends underneath. The color I picked out (when they didn't have my first choice of lavender) for the ends was a cute, bright, baby pink (I came in with pink ends but they were starting to fade). The color I ended up with on the ends is not a bright pink. There is no pink, more like the ends are a grey brown. I am so unhappy with how this turned out. The stylist tried to convince me there was pink in my hair when there is no way that my hair has any pink in it. There was an insufficient apology and an attempt to tell me I'm wrong or color-blind. After complaining she reduced the $130 bill to $120. Thanks a lot. I appreciate the hair cut but I did not receive the services I paid for and won't be returning. read more

Have had multiple haircuts here and they never follow directions. One time I asked for balayage and got streaky all over highlights. figured many months later I could try again with a simple haircut. Asked for just a trim, went home with 3 inches off and very choppy and uneven layers. Never coming here again, workers are unprofessional, inexperienced, and unsupervised, and unfriendly. read more

Honestly, this Ulta is one of the nicest stores I've been to. When i went in I was greeted and instantly noticed how organized the products were. The displays are awesome for even the lower end brands like Loreal and Maybelline. I specifically went in for the nail polish section and they had a decent collection, but it wasn't the biggest I've seen. Nonetheless, I was able to find one I liked. I would definitely come back to this location more if I lived closer. read more

There's a woman here who always pushes Clinique, no matter what you're shopping for. And if she can't fill your need with Clinique, she'll push some other Clinique product on you that you're not even shopping for. She sold me a blush that "flatters everyone" and it looked horrible on my very fair skin! Anytime I go in and she's working I feel bombarded and uncomfortable. Sometimes I just want to browse without someone breathing down my neck! I appreciate the offer for help, but not the repeated barraging. I made an appointment for wedding hair and makeup at this Ulta on the July 4th weekend and I hate to say but I was very disappointed with the service. The staff was somewhat friendly, but not very professional. I had a photo to show what style makeup and hair I wanted for my big day and I did not get the look of either. I wanted to leave my hair down but was told "my hair was too uneven and It would look awful", so I showed the stylist another photo of an updo and my hair was styled nothing like the photo. Then, makeup... My foundation did not match my skin tone, I did not want bright lips and I was told I had to have lip color because I looked washed out and was given hot pink on my light light skin, which made me look like a clown. Then, another stylist came over to apply my eyelashes and they were glued crooked and straight across my eye instead of with the curve of my eye and my eyes were glued shut.. another stylist tried to "fix it" but unfortunately she was unable so I left with hurting, glued heavy eyes and tears. My appointment was a 2 o'clock, they got started at 2:20 and I left the salon at 5:45 crying, for my wedding at 6:30, in which I had to go back to my hotel room and try to fix what the "professional stylists" considered "a natural look". I was very disappointed, considering we paid $110 for the service with unprofessional stylists and then at the check out the cashier made snide comments about me being upset and because the $10 tip I left wasn't enough. I had never shopped at Ulta or used the Ulta salon before and I never will again! read more
