Let me start by saying, it is clear ALOT of effort is put into creating this event and they spare no expense in bringing a multitude of experiences as well as bring rural Maine to the forefront. For those who spent their childhoods growing up in Urban (city life) areas, you can't begin to appreciate the hard work and the livelihood of families who grew up and make a living off farming and raising animals. The Fair offers so many things, I can't list them all here, but I indulged in the delicious fair food which ranges from fried dough, BBQ, French fries, homemade apple crisp, pizza, pretzels and anything else you can think of. Oh wait, there is this heart attach burger which has two all beef patties, cheese and bacon. If you don't go through a number of napkins eating it, you obviously didn't eat it right (ha ha). Bring some cash because most of the vendors to prefer it or require it. From a distance, as you drive towards the grounds, you can see the carnival is present and they brought a number of rides, games and attractions. Prefer the loud noise and excitement, head on over to the 4x4 area where Lawnmowers race around at rack at speeds that would make landscaping a job of minutes rather than hours (except these have bigger motors and no blades). There is a demolition derby which is my type of event. There is also live music and performances throughout the grounds. Now everything I talked about above is exciting, but the true spirit of the Oxford Fair is the agricultural, educational and the hard work that goes into the farming industry. Ranchers, farmers and families of all ages showcase their hard work and animals in a number of events and displays. It's country life at its finest and some of us take it for granted. We shop at local grocery stores for produce and meats, but these are the people who are responsible for keeping those shelves stocked because of their hard work. You have to take the time to attend one of their events and experience it for yourself. Not into the rural, country or farm life, well that doesn't mean you wouldn't enjoy it, but it will make you appreciate the hard working men and women who wake up every morning to ensure we have meat, dairy and vegetables we eat every day. Go say hi and thank them for all they do.

The issues: at $280 a night we felt the room was very dated (last updated about 20 years ago). The room smelled like bleach or really like how a senior living or care center smells which we spoke to the management about. The physical parts of the building, being quite old, showed various states of care/repair/disrepair/wear. Overall I dont see this at $280 but it was an ok stop. Management did acknowledge the issues and said the rooms not yet updated were to be done soon. Perhaps verify if your room choice has been done if reserving. I give it a 2 star towards 3 but price keeps it at 2 in its current condition.

We stayed here in July but the ski slopes are nearby, so it would make a fun winter trip as well. Hummingbirds sipping nectar while I sip my coffee on the covered porch is a perfect way to start the day. Drinking a beer while my husband grilled burgers on the deck was relaxing. Then we took a dip in the hot tub before going to the Tuscan suite deck to look at stars. The beds were well made with quality linens and comfy pillows. The guests weren't waiting 90 mins for anything. The photographer kept us inside asking us to do pictures while I cried because I had asked to go see my guests during what was supposed to be cocktail hour. Yes I did absolutely contact the florist because as any of my guests will confirm all of our flowers were dead, not what we had paid for and we were upset. Our budget wasnt low we actually spent a LOT on everything and the food was INCREDIBLE. We complained about paying for the standard DJ lighting that NO other DJ charges to use and we brought other lighting ourselves. They gave us a military discount because I'm an army vet, NEVER once did we ask for a discount. I paid for our food and gave a $300 tip to the person that served us as well. As the videographer, photographer and my wedding party can attest to I had sips of a warm mimosa for pictures before the ceremony and then used champagne in my bride shotglass for pics beforehand as well. I was far from drunk especially since that was over a 6 hour period of us getting ready. As far as personally attacking me for my friends bad plastic surgery, that shows the level of professionalism from this place. I can also show proof of the lies about the deposit being here within 21 days because i have the deposit and also have every email with all of the lies she also gave to another bride several weeks later. I didnt even email her about the deposit until the timeframe had passed and it was still weeks later that we got it.
