Absolutely awful. This tour guide was very bad at his job and the trip was super boring. The bus was full and we were all hoping to get some good views. This guide has no idea where he was going and led us to complete darkness in the sense we had to do a U-turn in the middle of nowhere. It was a 3 hour ride with everyone falling asleep. If there was an option to give 0 stars, I would give it. Where do we start. This "tour" is nothing more than a tourist trap - a money grab. This business isn't one that should exist. Elwin, the owner, is a terrible business manager with disregard to his costumers - we were freezing and asked Elwin to lower the air conditioner needless to say he did not and we were left to freeze for the entire ride. However, the most startling moment was Elwin telling us he has only seen moose on 3/47 of his trips. DOESN'T A SUCCESS RATE OF 6.38% STRIKE AS A SIGN THAT A CHANGE IS NEEDED IN THE BUSINESS MODEL?! This was generally a tour that gave me flashbacks to my school field trips. We ironed the same three roads back and forth - you expected a safari? Well the entire tour is on paved road no safari whatsoever. The entertainment that was used to lure us in included a discovery channel documentary that bore us to sleep, another documentary, and a slideshow made by Elwin including photos of Moose to the tune of "Hey Mr.Moose." Honestly the fact that this business is still functioning is beyond me. How can one take $40 for this monstrosity and not feel ashamed. Please skip this tour. By the way our tour lowered his success rate to 6.25% - in other words no moose (must mention that he did invite everyone back for a free tour - but how should I put it: I think we'll skip). read more

The owner Elwyn is a dispicable human being. He was 20 minutes late to pick us up and we were the only 2 people there for a sold out tour. Tried calling and texting with no response thought we were being stood up. Finally sent a text stating we were leaving and want my $ back or I was filing fraud charges. Showed up as we were pulling out and yes we went Returned to camp and the texts started at 1am see below it was awful. I am not sure why he thought I knew so much about his business or that he was picking us up in a different spot. The only reason he assumed he saved me tome is I told him I was an hour away and they took a left to go back to N. Conway and I went right or North. Never told him where I was staying. Not to mention if he was picking people up in different spots he could have texted to say he was late... We did see moose but drove the same roads up and down for 4 hours... HORRIBLE and DESPICABLE!!!! This was the worst 4 hours of my life. I would have rather had 2 root canals and 4 wisdom teeth pulled at the same time while suffering from Montezuma's Revenge. Elwyn was the driver, tour guide and abusive human being to everybody on the bus. He drove like a maniac, up and down the same road, stating that he has a high rate of moose sightings. This may or not be true, but the way he operates the bus, I highly doubt it. But he knows he will only see these people once on his bus. Let's just say ... I want sure I was coming out of the experience alive. And that is not an understatement.

To tell you I feel bad for this guy, when we arrived he seemed to have kind of an attitude and seemed shady. Once On the tour we drove up and down the same road over and over but if that's where the moose are that's where the moose are. The stars on the roof are cool for the kids and the clap and cheer after seeing a moose was fun. The kids would enjoy this and I would go again, he ended up being very sweet and gave out animals crackers and water. We saw some moose and it was very fun. read more

Elwin shuttled our guests from their lodging to our rehearsal dinner location and back the night before our wedding in the Valley. He was very pleasant to work with and I would highly recommend utilizing as a shuttle service when he's not booked up for moose tours in the evening! We've yet to take one but hope to soon! My friends and I were visiting North Conway for the week and had an open mind when it came to what we wanted to do. I saw on trip advisor the MWV Moose Tours and I was curious! After reading some great reviews, my friends and I decided to go. We called in a reservation and met Elwin and his moose safari bus at the train station. After we got going, Elwin showed us an interesting video on moose in New Hampshire. It was still light out around 8 and he said most moose have been seen after 9pm. To our surprise, we were cruising down the road and came across a moose!! Elwin spotted a yearling and we turned around to get a good look at it. As the yearling ran, Elwin drove BACKWARDS as we followed the moose down the road. It was amazing!!! As the night progressed, we ended up seeing 5 moose. The last one we saw, we got to go outside of the bus and take photos!! It was great! My friends and I loved the dedication Elwin displayed to finding moose. Between the flood lights, spot lights, quick turn around and the action packed ride, we had an amazing time!! We also loved the colored lights and moose songs to jazz up the ride! One thing we would recommend is something lighter for the ride home instead of that very dry moose video. Perhaps some Rocky and Bullwinkle?? If you are interested in seeing a moose, do so on the moose safari. You won't be disappointed!!! read more

My husband and I are planning a get a way up north, within a week, and was looking online for nearby attractions. When I got to this site, I began reading the reviews and couldn't stop! There were a few stories I read where I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. Every story mentioned the same crazy and rude driver, Elwin. Literally--the worst experience on a "tour" ever. 1. Expensive--way more cost than what's its worth. You are better off driving up Mt. Washington or just the northern freeways in NH. That's literally all the driver did--drive up and down freeways in northern NH. Literally you are paying for a big uncomfortable bus and the driving work that an 18-year old who knew nothing about moose could do. 2. Luck of the draw where you sit--if you didn't sign up early you get stuck seated in the back. The bus only has one TV in the front so you are completely screwed if you sit in the back. Yes you can kind of see the video from the back, but that matters when the video is the only chance at moose you will see. 3. Furthermore the video is the only source of information the entire "tour." The driver adds NO quality or information the entire trip--I learned nothing. You are basically paying $100 more to see a some video in a bus in NH when you could watch the same thing online from your home. 4. Attitude from the start--the driver was unpleasant beginning to end. When I emailed him a few months in advance if tours were available, he replied in all exclamations and caps as if he was annoyed. Sorry I want to give you my money? Then during the trip he made it very clear in the beginning you are not likely to see anything, and then at the end when you don't see anything he literally had the soul of a demon and cares nothing. PLEASE save yourself. Literally a drive up to northern NH is all this is. 5. Complete wast of my life and I wish I could put this guy out of business. Borderline a crime what he is charging versus with what you are getting. Apparently he has never been on a tour and knows what that means. This was my second visit to New Hampshire and I sure wasn't going to miss a moose this time around. Elwin, proprietor of MWV tours was great. He couldn't guarantee us a moose sighting but delivered anyway. A moose was spotted within minutes of our tour. Halfway through our tour, it began to rain hard. Elwin continued to circle around and double back using his hand held flood light, he was able to illuminate another moose for us! We were also given the opportunity to see them close up. Elwin's persistence and keen eye throughout the night had us see a total of about 4 moose. The bus was equipped with flood lights, he made quick turn arounds so both sides of the bus could enjoy the view. He had a laser light show accompanied with stars on the ceiling. Elwin also had an array of DVDs with music and video played on the down time for everyone on board. We stopped for a restroom break at Twin Mountain Trading Post, the store owner opened just for Elwin and his tour! Home made fudge was delicious! The trip was well worth it. I was wondering if this was the same business we experienced, called North Conway Moose Safari. But seeing some of the past reviews, it confirmed it's the same. Let me start off saying: RUN! Don't bother calling or making a reservation. I wish I can take my 3-4 hours of my life back. Elwin doesn't deserve even one star. There were 19 of us, we paid him over $500 for all of us and he treated us so poorly. He yelled at one of my sister and nephew for standing too close to his van, because he thought they were trying to get on. He yelled at them to back off and that we were not the first ones to get on, which is fine we don't have to be the first ones to get on nor were trying to get on. My 3 year old nephew was playing with my sister and was pretending to push her around, and she was being playful with him about 3 feet away from your beat up van. He was also extremely rude to my husband when he greeted Elwin, as if he has no personality. There is nothing special of this trip, he speeds (I prayed once or twice, okay 5 times on how fast he was going) up and down the highway and stops 3 seconds for a moose if there was one. Doesn't allow you to have time to take a picture. He forces you to watch 3 unnecessary videos, refuse to turn on the A/C even when we politely asked, we were told "there is no point". It then started pouring out so everyone on the van shuts their window since we were getting soaked, he pulled over to yelled at us for shutting the windows and costing the foggy windows, still refuse to turn air on. Elwin also yelled at us to "hurry up" during the bathroom break. It was all together an awful experience that I wish I can take back. I totally understand these moose are wild lives and we didn't expect much goIng into it. But Elwin went above and beyond to be extremely rude and treated his customers AWFUL! Second time going. Great time in 2019 and saw 6 different moose. Does as advertised. Moose movie and dvds are entertaining. The other social media recommendations are terrific. Yelp is Yelp. Don't base your choice of going based on a few complaints here. For us last 2 years have been entertaining, fun, and have always seen moose. Really all went smooth and driver is great. I have been on moose viewing tours before, and I have to say they were quite different. Perhaps the other I had experience long ago began the journey "closer" to the Moose laden areas....or maybe there are so few moose these days that we not have to drive around like mad men to get even a shot at finding one. That was the crux of the problem....well, the first problem. We drove around like crazy, lights on to the side looking for moose. I mean for hours....just over 4 hours to be exact. But the driving time would have been fine, but quite a lot of it was at very high speed....between what I guess would be moose feeding places...but that was only when we slowed down. (though not very often) Most of the driving and moose seeking happened at 50MPH....I was actually afraid of what the stop would look like if we ever happened to see one. But the other horrible thing was the plastic lawn chair that my friend was asked to sit in (and I sat in on the way back) He was a guest from NY and was excited to possibly see a moose....but if the high speed thrill ride wasn't enough to turn him off to Conway, the plastic chair that at one point folded up and threw him down onto a couple of folks next to him on the other side of the bus....well, that certainly made a horrible impression. We did actually see the butt of a moose as it ran back into the woods.....and we knew the risk of not seeing one....so that wasn't the problem.....it was just not a comfortable and even unsafe situation, and one I wish I had not put my guest from NY through. I hope this does not leave a bad taste in his mouth for our area as I'd love to have him back some time. read more

Worst business owner in all of NH! DO NOT SPEND A DIME OF YOUR MONEY ON THIS TOUR!!! Not only is this guy rude, a horrible driver with no manners, it only gets worse from there! All this guy cares about is getting his greasy paws on your $40. Period! My wife and I booked a tour that was supposed to start at 8pm. We had to wait for several passengers that were late. But that was okay to the owner because he wasn't going to pass up $40 for each passenger. The others finally arrived, and then we had to drive 5 minutes down the road to pick up more people at Dairy Queen. Again, that was okay because the owner's getting $40 each. By the time the tour "started" it was past 8:30pm. The owner then asked if anyone needed to use the restrooms at Attitash Mountain. Several people raised their hands so we stopped. My wife and I were some of the passengers that used the restrooms. There was a line for the men's room. My wife was waiting for me in the lobby of Attitash as I was in the men's room. The owner "Elwin" came into the lobby and started screaming at my wife! He yelled at the top of his lungs "where is he?" My wife told him I was in the bathroom. He told her he wasn't waiting. There were several witnesses, workers in the lobby, to this guy's behavior and how he screamed at my wife. It only gets worse from here. He stormed back in and told her he was LEAVING WITHOUT US! My wife asked for our money back ($80.) HE REFUSED TO REFUND THE MONEY AND LEFT US STRANDED AT ATTITASH!!! Think about that for a minute! This guy took our money for a moose tour, started the tour 45 minutes late, took us 10 minutes down the road, and then left us stranded at the place HE STOPPED for a bathroom break!! We just came back from our tour. I went into this with an open mind, after reading several bad reiews.Unfortunately.we did not see any moose. But Elwyn gave it his best shot. He was informative, and even cracked a couple of jokes. It helped to have comic relief in the back of the van. It made a slow night fun, and we were all in stitches. It sounded like a good idea. We called to make reservations and the owner sounded nice, advised against bringing the grand children as the tour runs from 8pm to midnight and he would not be turning around early for anyone. Good advise in retrospect. You meet the tour at the train station in NC. It's a 30 seat bus rigged with outside lights and it was sold out. We were a little early but the owner was there so we met him, paid the $40 each and waited for the rest. Tried to engage in a little conversation about the tour and got a couple grunts out of the man who seemed agitated that everyone was not there and was rifling through his papers and calling people. Most of them were there and it was 7:45. Once everyone is on board we head for the Kangcamagus. The guy puts in a Nat geo flick for the ride and I'm hoping I didn't just shell 80 bucks for a pirated dvd on a bus that's 1/2 full of kids with the croup (not everyone took his advice). Takes like 45 minutes to get up there and when we do the guy drives around, pulls over a lot, shines his spotlight aimlessly and doesn't say much. What he does say is dry as toast. He announces it's time for a ten minute break pulls over at some visitor center and starts staring at his watch. Try to engage in a little light conversation and get the same grunts as before. My wife is starting to hate me. Time to go he puts on his own dvd which is a slide show of his past successful tours set to a kids moose song that made my wife hate me more. Haven't seen as much as a moose turd and now he's going to torture us. Another hour of driving around at full speed pulling over aimless lights and silence except for the goofy moose tune and now he starts to wrap it up. Me and the guy across the aisle are pretty sure he wants to get back to town with his twelve hundred bucks before last call. Heading on out of there and bang! he pulls it off! There's a moose in middle of the field. We pull over and look at it, turn around and look at it again, turn around and look at it again for old times sake and speed off back to Conway. But wait I say there's another one! Must not have heard me but he still flicks the lights on every once in a while as we cruise at 50 past any chance of seeing anything. Like I said it sounded like a good idea. Do yourself a favor keep the 40 bucks a head, put the kids in the back of the station wagon, cruise up to the Mt Washington, catch the fireworks while you shine your flashlight out the window and your chances of seeing moose are better than if you get on the bus with Mr. Personality. read more

Please save your hard earned money!!!, Saw nothing and at the speed the bus went 50-75mph you wouldn't see it anyway. They also don't tell you until you're paid oh by the way you will be gone for 3 plus hrs on your white knuckle experience. I feel like Gilligan on a 3 hr tour to nowhere... We did see a moose, 2 in fact. That earns Elwin's tour one star. But, in the age of COVID19, if you want a safe, professional experience, this is not the one for you. If you are concerned about getting onto a packed bus of tourists from all over the country (or world) for 4 hours, with no one wearing a mask, where folks act like it's a party bus, this is not the activity for you. First, when we booked this 2 weeks prior, we were told that the bus was not going to be full for social distancing and masks were required. We get on and the owner himself is not wearing a mask. People getting on the bus had masks then took them off. I asked him are we wearing masks..his response was to not make eye contact and abruptly say, "Masks are optional", then turn his head to the next customer. We were seated in the last row and, at first, passengers were spaced apart. Elwin then said we were going to pick up more people at other stops. WHAT? I again asked about this and he said that every seat was filled, went to the front of the bus and we drove off. At that point, we were on the bus stopping at two other resorts, filling up this bus. People passed each other to get off for the bathroom, there was a container of drinks/snacks to grab something from (um, lots of hands in that area touching)...issue after issue of concern. Tourists from all over were packed into this bus, closed windows (oh, the open windows to take pics are 5x7 inch slider at the top of the real window which doesn't open. When I got back to my hotel that night, I did look up the NH rules and, indeed, they had changed 3 days prior to say tours could fill and masks were to be highly encouraged. There is nothing on the website that talks about the precautions taken then nor are there now. This was a conversation we had with him when we booked and we were given assurances. I would have liked to have been alerted to the changes. I would expect that the tour would comply, at a minimum, with the "highly encouraged" masks; not even the owner/driver wore one. I get that the rules change, I get that it's a full bus that makes money. What I don't get is the rudeness, the total lack of planning to minimize risk. I did have an email conversation with Elwin afterwards and, while saying he didnt intend to be rude, he said he complied with rules and it was good we saw moose, so all good. So, I'll say it again...if you are concerned about getting onto a packed bus of tourists from all over the country (or world) for 4 hours, with no one wearing a mask, where folks act like it's a party bus, this is not the activity for you. read more

Moose Tour Danger Ride! Two friends of mine took me on a moose tour on 8/12/17. When boarding I was asked to sit in a plastic lawn chain that was wired haphazardly to to van floor. Being a good sport, I agreed to sit in the unsteady looking seat. Big mistake! The driver took a you turn about halfway through the tour and the chair fell over. I bruised a girl's leg who was seated behind me and landed on a mother seated next to her son and scraped my shoulder. I brought this incident to the drivers attention at a stop and he seemed unconcerned. The tour itself was excruciating. We boarded at 8pm and did not return until 12:20am. During the entire excursion we caught a brief glimpse of one moose that was obviously scared off by the barrage of flood lights mounted on the side of the van that the driver flicked on and off during the tour. The Joie Chitwood trained driver performed numerous unsafe and illegal mid-road u-turns which had me holding on for dear life as I was still in a state of shock after the fall from my precarious plastic chair. Added to the pain of this journey, were corny moose songs played through a flapping blown speaker next to my head, as epileptic seizure inducing lights flashed throughout the van. Since we didn't see but the tail end of one moose, the driver kept playing moose themed DVDs as entertainment to the groan of the passengers who after 4 plus hours, just wanted to return home. I really wish this could have been better. I love wildlife, but this stunt van blasting its floodlights into the night exploits moose that are just trying to grab a late night bite on the side of the road. So if you are looking for a danger-filled van ride with bad moose songs and videos played through poor production equipment, this may be your ticket. Worst tour ever! As prior reviews stated, RUN! Can't believe the hotels in North Conway, or the NH DOT, allows this driver/owner, Elwyn Wheaton, to continue to be a driver and owner. Especially Eastern Slope Inn! About a week ago, my family and I thought, let's do something different. My wife picked out MWV Moose Tours in North Conway as it was recommended by a lot of people & hotels in North Conway...on Facebook! I never checked Yelp. As all the great reviews and 97% success rate of seeing a moose were on Elwyn's Facebook account. Thus, any bad reviews can be easily deleted. Not Yelp! We went to North Conway's center near the train station /Schouler Park. We were boarding just past 8pm. My young son first noticed Elwyn's erratic behavior prior to boarding the bus. We went on the bus and watched a moose video while Elwyn drove very fast and erratic down the highway, at some points crossing into the left lane for moments at a time. We arrived about 9:30pm at the bathroom break place, an Appalachian Mountain Club hotel/hostel near the Mt. Washington Hotel. Got off the bus & saw the radiator was busted, steam coming out hard from the engine. Our driver, Elwyn, went into the hotel, never talked to any of the 30 plus riders, and accused some of us of taking his "flashlight"! No one took his flashlight and then we began to suspect Elwyn had "issues". Elwyn disappeared for more than an hour and never explained his erratic behavior to any passenger. A 24 hour repair shop shows up with 8 anti-freeze containers. Again, Elwyn never talked to one passenger. Ever! He told all of us to get back on the bus at 10:45pm and we all assumed Elwyn was taking us back to North Conway. WRONG! Elwyn tells us the water pump is broken. But, all the gallons of anti freeze will help our situation. NOT SURE WHY ARE WE NOT BEING GIVEN TAXIS HOME??! Then, assuming we were headed back to North Conway, Elwyn drove us out 7 miles in the wrong direction to find moose and then stopped the bus to say the engine over heated. No Moose!! This is our driver with 30 passengers. He then turned the bus around and then stopped about a mile down on the side of the rode. He said he wanted us to re-watch the moose video. I yelled out, just get us home!! Any one following me???. We almost made it back to North Conway but Elwin's "well-maintained" bus broke down "again". Do believe Elwyn doesn't spend any $$ back into his bus maintenance. We broke down, again after his high speed driving about 6 miles before our North Conway hotel and my family saw smoke emitting from Elwin's engine. My 2 young boys were yelling to get off the bus, completely traumatized by Elwyn!! My wife followed my 2 boys off the drivers exit door. I asked the people on the bus to open the passenger door and was met with anger. Had to yell to get off the bus. Seems Elwyn was screaming at my wife and 2 boys to get back on the bus as my wife called the local police. Elwyn kept yelling at us, " get back on the bus" and "why are you doing this to me". We were watching Elwyn pour about 6 gallons of anti freeze into his broke down bus. Smoke kept pouring out! My wife called the police and watched the poor remaining passengers go back to North Conway. Luckily, the police gave us a great taxi company. Crazy Elwyn, who owns this Moose tour, told us he would come back for us in his pick up truck. Said thanks. Luckily, local taxi saved us and we will be reporting Elwyn to all NH government agencies. By the way, our telephone call was recorded, just in case Elwyn wants to counter this review. ALSO, NEVER SAW A MOOSE. read more

The most obnoxious and worst customer service. Basically had nothing organized and embarrassed a young couple in front of a group of about 40 people because they didn't call him to confirm, though they had placed their reservation months in advance. Rudely dismissed a member of our party because they requested a receipt. Basically, miserable owner, Elwin. Should not be dealing with the public if he is so unhappy with this realm of work. We were initially told that we would be finished around 10pm. Once on the bus we were told 11:30pm. Last year we went on a tour through Gorham,NH Had a great time! I have NEVER given a review with harsh comments but our party of 6 would have walked had we not already paid our fee. One of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life. 4 hours speeding up and down the same highway in a hot bus. This thing was supposed to be air conditioned but was definitely not. Elwyn drove like a complete maniac and would occasionally pull over and shine a flashlight into the woods to see if we saw anything. We would barely stop for 30 seconds at a time at random spots. To keep us "entertained" we watched moose and bear videos. Elwyn was also exceptionally rude and unprofessional. A complete waste of time and money. Owner Elwyn Wheaton agreed to refund the $60 because he suggested that the moon would cause the tour to not see moose. I had become sick during the day and thought that 3.5 hours in the tour bus would not be a good idea, especially if it would be just that...a ride in a bus! At 1am the next day I had an email from Elywn saying we had missed a great trip and too bad. Nothing more was said until I asked about the refund. When the refund did not come in, he said that he would have given the refund, but that his "boss" would not allow it. Then offered up a tour credit to which I declined due to the fact that I do not live in New Hampshire and am moving within the next few months. After I disputed the charges with my bank, I filed a complaint with the BBB because I did not think it appropriate to lie. After doing so, I have received 3 emails from Elwyn each at 1am in the morning venting and calling me names and saying what an awful person I am for not accepting a tour credit.
