Being the neighborhood gym, it is not too shabby, in fact, it is pretty decent and well equipped. It is located within Centennial Park and is right next to the West Valley Accord Ice Skating Rink. This gym has all the necessities and has a decent price for entry compared to other gyms. Here are the perks: The Good 1. Large parking lot 2. Pool -- One for kids with a large slide, small lazy river and other kid friendly water contraptions. The other for laps and playing marco polo or water basketball. There is also one hot tub. 3. Two levels of equipment -- Top floor is filled with cardiovascular equipment such as: ellipticals, treadmills, stationary bicycles, and a small track. The bottom floor has weight lifting equipment and free weights. All equipment are in good condition. 4. Great for kids -- If you have kiddies running around there is a massive playground for them to lose all their energy. The playground is big enough that they could get lost in it. Seriously. They also have a daycare and day camp for kids. 5. Racquet Ball courts that you can reserve beforehand. 6. Rock climbing wall 7. Small indoor track 8. Many different programs such as cycling, zumba, water aerobics, etc. that you can sign up for at a decent price. 9. Plenty of free lockers so bring your own lock! There are also some to purchase if you want to as well. 10. The facility doesn't smell like b.o. 11. Right next to a skating rink so you can skate afterwards too. 12. Located within Centennial Park so you have access to two play grounds for kids (one of which has swing sets), bbq areas, tennis courts, a bike/running trail, wide open spaces for ultimate frisbee or other sports. 13. Close enough to Walmart so you can do shopping afterwards if necessary. Two birds with one stone, right? The Bad 1. Saturday it closes at 9 pm and Sundays opens at 10:30 and closes at 5. 2. Crowded, crowded like a can of sardines from 3 to 8 Monday through Thursdays. In the wintertime it gets worse especially in January when people make those damn resolutions. 3. Unsupervised children using equipment sometimes. Very bothersome and annoying. 4. Some of the patrons just sit around on the equipment and chat and chat and chat and silent and chat some more. 5. Pretty much, the bad comes from the other patrons that use the facilities. This can be avoided if you go to the gym earlier in the morning when everyone is working or late at night two hours before closing. The building has multiple floors dedicated to different athletic activities. I usually go to the 3rd floor, which I believe is the weights floor. They offer so many options for strength training and I never have to wait for any cardio-based machine. There are other fun services to utilize at this gym. There is a basketball court right next to the weights area. There is a physical running track above the weights area, if you're looking for more of a physical run than machine-based cardio. The boxing room with punching and speed bags is down on the lower level. The swimming pool can be seen from the upper levels. There is a rock climbing wall and a place to rent gear for winter activities, like snowboarding and skiing. I've listed so many pro's about the place, but the one bad thing about this gym is that it gets so packed at certain times, which isn't unusual for a gym; all gyms struggle during busy times, but I believe the amount of options the gym offers helps combat this problem. I have been to many other gyms like recreation center gyms, VASA, Planet Fitness, etc, but I believe nothing can beat the University of Utah's gym.
