Cool barbershop overall, located in the Del Ray area of Alexandria. As of March 2022, masks still required in this shop for all patrons. Unless the customer is getting a beard/moustache trim, it seems the barbers even prefer to cut their customers with their masks still on, which was a bit odd LOL. But this is a solid, black-owned barbershop in a good location of Del Ray. Walked in and didn't have to wait long at all. Seems they accept cash, credit, and even Cash App as payment, which is convenient. A big plus here is that prices are actually slightly below typical barbershop prices, which is great. Was also very pleased with the actual cut. If you google this place you might get info saying that the shop is closed on Mondays. I literally just went in this past Monday so am thinking that information is outdated and probably wrong. Solid shop in a good location with good service - will come back again. read more

Kariem did a GREAT JOB on my hair! Today was my first visit. I have hair that is pretty easy to cut and even if you make mistakes, it's very forgiving. Kariem remembered the style I told him I was looking for and when I showed him a picture, he was able to follow it expertly. He checked the length for me before he made adjustments and when I asked him to take the sides a "breath" lower, he did just that. His shaping and edge work is wonderful. Easy to locate, easy to book an appointment (also takes walk-ins), good parking availability, clean, masks required, friendly (child & woman/femme friendly!), patient service to all ages but cuts done quickly and well, very reasonably priced. Update: The same day I posted the outcome of my sons haircut at Ultimate Styles, I was contacted by Kariem, the owner. Kariem's response to our experience was extremely sincere. He was apologetic and offered to fix my sons hair immediately. I will admit I was hesitate about going back; I just knew I would feel awkward returning, especially after writing my initial review. However, I decided to give him the opportunity to fix Mason's hair. Kariem shared the two days he take appointments (M-Tues) however my schedule did not accommodate his availability. He takes walk-ins during the week so we decided that I would contact him to determine the wait time and we would go from there. However, early Tuesday morning, he texted me letting me know a spot had opened at 5:30pm that evening and it's ours if we wanted it, which worked out perfectly. My son LOVED, LOVED LOVED his hair cut!! When we got in the car he inspected his hair in the mirror, again, and then said, "Mom...I think we should start going to him." He was so serious, lol! I decided to change my review from one to five stars because Kariem made it evident that he was determined to change the outcome of our experience. I honestly didn't expect him to reply, however; his attentiveness and willingness to remedy the issue were beyond my expectations. He demonstrated that he's a responsive business owner who's committed to ensuring his clients are satisfied with their overall experience. Great local barbershop and Excellent Energy. We are new to the area and finding a local barber for my teenage son was difficult. I visited another shop but the environment/energy was unwelcoming. The receptionist's attitude sealed the deal for my exit! I found Kariem on Yelp. He responded to my inquiry for an appointment super quick and got an appointment for the next day. The shop is family friendly. The customers there at the time were pleasant and actually speak to you. My son needed his cut cleaned up and evened out due to another haircut that didn't go too well. Long story short - I think this is one of the best haircuts my son has had since he was 10 yrs old. He's 14 now, so that says a lot! My son was really nervous about going to someone unfamiliar and having to cut his hair shorter to even it out, but Kariem did a helluva job! 5 stars. Definitely recommend. read more

My boyfriend was recently serviced for a skin fade and a shape up and we are very upset with the results. He usually goes to Tony but was recommended by him to get his hair cut by JC. After getting his haircut and coming home his skin on the back of his head appeared to be very irritated with bumps and some of them are puss like. I called the barbershop to speak with JC and all he had to say was "apply alcohol to it". This disgusts me because sanitizing and sterilization is very important when servicing your clients at all times! Had this man been doing these things properly this could've been avoided. read more

I had a really great experience just now at this barbershop, they have everything I ever wanted in a barbershop... They had a little phone charging station with every possible phone cable, the cleanest bathroom I've ever seen in a barbershop and a very friendly atmosphere... I would recommend making an appointment because as a first time walk-in, I did have a substantial weight, but that just means that it's a good place... And of course it is Friday afternoon where everybody wants to look good for tonight. Ace cut my hair and was a super cool friendly guy. He listened to everything I had to say (I have a round head so how I shape my beard is important) and gave me an awesome medium fade and trimmed my beard perfectly. Ambiance was cozy and had an urban family barbershop feeling to it, Mothers with their children, working adults, college age and elderly. Other parents continually praise and admire how stylish and handsome they look. My visit was hopefully an anomaly. I came in as a walk in and showed the gentleman at least 3 pictures of what I was looking for. Long story short, I have a high reason to believe that this man has never cut a caucasian mans hair. Like the act of combing hair didn't exist in his mind. Love this shop! I big chopped my hair recently at my salon of over 10 years (we're talking 14+ inches of thick, layered, relaxed locs for someone who has had long hair all her life)...needless to say I was terrified! As amazing as these ladies are at doing my relaxer and blow out; my big chop was a different story. So I went to Ultimate to correct my hair based on a recommendation from my wife. I tried this place because it's close to home and its reviews were good. Unfortunately they don't seem to be familiar with my kind of hair. The barber spent a good amount of time on my cut, which I appreciated. He also takes appointments, which is an indication he's skilled at his craft. Initially my hair cut looks good but after I showered it was apparent that it wasn't very good. Overall it wasn't as short as I usually like. However, my callick was shorter than it's ever been before. For those of you without a callick usually barber leave it a little longer so he hair will lie down. After my hair cut it's standing straight up. It will need to grow for another 2 weeks to look even close to normal. The price wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. $22+tip. If I was happy with the hair cut it would be money well spent. As it is I feel like Alfalfa from My Gang. read more
