I am very disappointed with the haircut that I received from Barber Kirk. He did not listen to my instructions on I wanted.When a family came in requesting a haircut for their family member. He informed them to come back in a half hour. Mind you, he did not even started cutting my hair. It bothered me that he did such a poor job that I should have gone to a barbering school and got a better job. He did not do a hairline shape up or make sure that the fade blended. I am sorry that I gave my business to this company. Who cuts hair in 15 minutes and walk away with over a $50.00. I will never patronize this business again and will tell everyone I know to stay away from this company. Buyer beware. read more

John is by far the best barber I have ever gone to. Five stars is not quite strong enough of a rating to fully encapsulate his skill and professionalism as a master barber. And its not that I go to him just because he's the best of the other options that are convenient to where I am located. It hasn't always been a short ride to his shop from wherever I have lived since going to him. I'm 40 so it goes without saying that I've been to countless barbers in my life. Not only is John the most skilled barber I've ever, ever been to but he is a master at efficiency often cutting my hair in 15 minutes when others would take 3x or 4x as long with far less impressive results. Even going online to schedule an appointment is quick. It's as if he takes into consideration ever detail that goes into getting a haircut and as the owner of the shop tries to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible. I get that I am talking about a barbershop and not a factory but the efficiency can't be overemphasized got to give credit where its due. The impressiveness of being as quick while being thorough is truly a gift and I don't use those words lightly. The same way certain people in [pick a field] have innate skills that cannot be taught or learned, I truly believe that's John when it comes to cutting hair. I regularly get compliments on my haircut from both men and women alike and several strangers have asked where I go to get my hair cut. To have him as my barber is truly a blessing. read more

I was looking for a barber nearby and I haven't been to an actual shop in over 4 years, I saw this one was closest to me and the prices weren't horrible. I didn't know who to pick online so I let it pick a barber for my, I'm glad it picked Tyler because he did an amazing job with my mid fade and with cleaning my facial hair up. read more

Stay away if you want a decent cut! Didn't know I was going to Barber school, took almost an hour to get a basic fade and three people to assist in giving a hair cut that I didn't come in to get. The owner (John) sitting in the last chair next to the window watched the whole thing and never bothered to step in or try to make things better. Luckily one other barbers attempted to correct the situation, while trying to teach technique but at the end of the day the style was ruined, I had to shave two inches of hair off the top and pay for the hair cut. The person cutting my hair (Justin) was obviously new which is fine but no one ever even offered an apology. Great location too bad I will never be back. Let me be clear, there was no "miscommunication with the consultation." Another barber came over in the middle of the cut to help correct where the original barber was failing. If there were any interest in taking care of me "the customer" a phone call or direct email would have gone a lot further than responding with inaccurate information to a Yelp review. read more

I have been coming here since I moved to the area in 2018. I have got my hair cut by almost every barber that works here, and have been happy with the results. But... Today I got cut by a new barber and I knew it wasnt the best when I saw it in the shop mirror, but didnt want to discourage the new barber, I even still tipped him 25% ($7).I didnt realize how bad it was until I got home and had my fiance look at my hair. The fade is very choppy and the barber looks like he zig zagged across the top of my head with the clippers. It was supposed to be a high fade with a #2 across the top, and there are streaks of longer hair all over my head. Now I'm attempting to fix it in my bathroom with my clippers to at least make it less embarrassing to go to work tomorrow. I'm not posting his name on purpose because I'm not trying to put him on blast, but they'll know who it is. This is a solid barbershop. Black-owned barbershop but has clientele of all races. Clean, relatively new place located in a nice area (Potomac Yards section of Alexandria). I love the fact that they accept credit cards (most black-owned barbershops don't) and are open 7 days a week. Also like the fact that they seem to be customer service-oriented, with a front desk lady who greets you as you come in and free appointments (some places actually charge to set up appointments!). Have gotten cuts from most of the staff; they are all friendly barbers and generally ask the right questions to ensure you get a cut you're pleased with. Atmosphere is much more laid back and quiet than the barbershops off Georgia Ave. that I'm used to - less conversation but there are TVs, magazines, and a vending machine to keep you occupied while waiting. I believe the shop has free wi-fi as well. Solid place - would highly recommend!!! read more

The shop has taken extra precautions to keep clients safe during COVID. All clients wait in their car until their appointment time and everyone in the shop is required to wear a mask. Thomas does a mean wet shave. The experience was great. He's my new beard man. I'm too old at almost 50 to be playing around with them young men and this new wave of so called barbering they do. They're missing steps form the old school and I'm blessed that Thomas picks up where most of them leave off. I will be there every two weeks making it happen and you should join me there too. Ultimate my hairy ass! This was probly the worst cut ive ever gotten. Usually cut my own hair but went to JOHN cause i have a wedding coming up and he had crazy good reviews. I was a walk-in. So I understand that I didn't make an appointment, knowing that I would have to wait. I was told 30-45 minutes. 60 minutes goes by and I asked when I would be next, was told that there was still one person in front of me. That's fine. 10 minutes goes by and the barber, Diego, snags me and says "are you ready?" I said no problem. I walk over to his chair and there was a guy already sitting in it, who I'm assuming was a regular, and Diego says "sorry man, I gotta get him." What? Okay... whatever. Walked in here for a shape up and beard trim...beard was barely trimmed. I hate that I have to tell a professional barber to go over a shape up again after he or she thinks they're done. I recently went to Ultimate Barber for the first time. The barbershop was nice in a good location in Alexandria. My barber John did decent job. I requested Temp taper and asked John to line up my beard as well. I wasn't to satisfied with my haircut and my line wasn't even. I ask John to shape up my beard but he trim it lower than I asked for. It typically takes an hour to cut my hair but John was finish in 25 minutes. Dude barely said a word to me but stayed on the phone the entire time he cute my hair. Customer service wasn't the best. This definitely will be my first and last time at this barbershop. read more

I think it depends on who you go to here. I was a walk in, waited only like 5 minutes and sat in the second chair from the window, i think his name was troy. The guy in the chair next to me got a great cut and his beard was sharp, he looked good. when his barber was done, he cleaned his stuff up and put in this slick looking case, he looked sharp himself. Super professional looking. Now my guy was shaving his own head as i walked into the chair, he should not be cutting hair. He cut my neck up so bad when he was shaving my beard jaw line. Then the fade he did on my head was shorter on one side, he just was not good and seemed to not care. Rough experience visiting this establishment. I looked up best barbers in DC on Bing and decided to try this out. To be succinct and specific, I am leaving good and bad notes about my experience below... Good: Nice ambiance, seen early despite online appointment, friendly barber, good attention to detail on my buzz cut, accepts Apple Pay and credit cars along with cash Bad: Shave experience was lousy (barber repeatedly used clipper on my facial area and still left patches of hair behind), no shampoo with haircut Unsure if I will go back. First time customer, so I made an appointment 1 week out. 1 day before my appointment I received an email and a text, both asking to confirm my appointment, which I did. I also received a missed call from an Arlington phone number at 5:30 pm, with no voicemail left. Showed up on time at 8am to learn that my appointment had been canceled. I mentioned to the receptionist that I had only received text/email communication requesting confirmation. The receptionist explained that she called me the day before at 5:30 pm which was true given my missed call, so I asked why she did not leave a message. She then showed me the computer which had typed notes, stating that she called me to cancel the appointment, but no details about leaving a message. She dodged the whole idea of a voicemail and made it seem like adequate notification was made by just making the phone call. How about an email, or text message, or notification through the app that I had downloaded to my phone? The receptionist said that she would get me seen asap, which I appreciated. After sitting for about 10 minutes, I was offered a seat at the chair of the only barber in the place without an appointment (bad sign). Now I've had my fair share of bad barber experiences, and did not want this to be one of them. Especially because the main purpose of this visit was in preparation of professional photos. I had looked at reviews and photos of multiple barbershops and eventually decided on the barber that ended up cancelling. Now I found myself in the chair of a barber who's work I had not seen. Therefore, I audibled from my original plan of having a more in depth cut completed, and opted for a simple beard trim and line up. The barber seemed uncomfortable with clippers in his hands, and literally had his pinky in my eyeball as he did one half of my face. When he handed me the mirror, my beard looked just a little cleaner than when I walked in, but not nearly as nice as I expected when I decided to seek out a professional. To prevent leaving with a worse looking beard than I showed up with, I settled and told the barber that it would work. I paid 20 something dollars, and left. 2 stars are given because during a phone call afterwards, John did his best to make things right by offering his 1:30 slot. This was greatly appreciated, but I had already decided on never returning. First impressions are important, and making notifications of cancelled appointments in due time and manner are as well. I actually would recommend trying this place, because most of the patrons there seemed happy with their service. Your experience here is going to depend on who your barber is. Thus far I've had two: TIm and Kirk. Tim was amazing, I would gladly get my hair cut by him anytime. Now let me tell you about Kirk. I ordered the straight razor shave and a buzz cut trim for the top of my head. First, I could see without even looking closely that he missed a ton of spots on the top of my head after the buzz cut. I asked him to correct it, which he did. Moving on to the straight shave: it took forever, and afterwards I felt my face and could feel numerous patches he had missed. Upon arriving home and inspecting my head, I realized there was STILL spots on my head he had missed with the clippers, and spots on my face he had missed with the straight razor! I ended up pulling out my own clippers and my own straight razor and fixing BOTH myself. So just to review..I paid $30 (including tip) for a haircut and shave. I ended up going home and having to cut my own hair and shave my own face....so what exactly did I pay for? I want to like this place, and Tim seems amazing, but I am NOT a fan of paying for a haircut and then going home and cutting my own hair to fix spots that were missed. read more

Made an appointment online for my boyfriend. Realized the day of we never got a confirmation. He showed up, waited for awhile, and no one acknowledged his presence. He finally went up to the receptionist who gave him terrible attitude. Apparently the appointment didn't go through so the receptionist, still with attitude, told him to just sit down. A chair opened up and he got his haircut, but it was clear the person was very uncomfortable cutting his hair. The barber was super nice, but didn't do a great job. We had to go somewhere else to clean it up. He will never go back. The worst part was the TERRIBLE customer service at the front. Being nice goes a long way- better make sure the face of your business, aka the first person people encounter, is friendly. Just sayin'. read more

I have been to this place once before and the service although it wasn't great, it was decent so I decided to go back. I got there and there was no one waiting but all the barbers were busy, so I took a seat and waited. I was already 30-40 mins in waiting for the barber to finish up with the person they were helping when three other people came in, they didn't sign in (not that there is a way) and they didn't state they have an appointment or anything, they just took a seat. One of the barbers was done, walked by me and told the person who was sitting next to me who came after me to go and sit on his chair because he was next. I was like ok, I'll just wait for another barber to be done, then the same thing the barber was done and told someone who came in after me to go and sit on his chair. It wouldn't bother me at all if they had appointments, but that was not the case as they didn't even asked them if they had appointments. They just told them they were next, they saw me sitting there for an hr waiting and decided to skip me for whatever reason. I never thought I would feel discriminated against in this area but that's exactly how I felt. The young man with the dreads who works there decided to take a break after he was done with his client, he was with the same client for an hr for as long as I was there waiting pretty much and it felt like he went on break just so he didn't have to help me. I don't think I did anything particularly wrong, I was dressed business casual as I was as on my lunch break and decided to go get a haircut. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you know one of the barbers or you are a regular otherwise they might give you the impression or feel like you are being discriminated. Last time I was there I got a haircut with the young man with the dreads and even gave him a 100% tip for a shape up and trimmed which took him like 20 mins. This place is nice when you walk in. The people are nice, but I was severely disappointed. I started growing my beard out and wanted to look fresh, I do a good job grooming myself. I've been doing it for the past 18 years. I wanted super clean lines and a professional fade put into your beard. What I got was a full trim down to my dismay as he ran the clippers down my whole face in a quick swoop. Okay, no big deal it will grow back I thought. At least I'll look nice and clean. Nope three time I had to ask for corrections my beard was noticeably uneven and I had to have him fix it. The blending from the corners of my mouth between the beard and mustache was horrendous and not evenly rounded, one side stuck out much more. Apparently he used a straight razor to line me up, somehow I still left with a 5 o'clock shadow.... I'm a pretty polite person, as I apologize for being "so picky" he says " I want you to be picky, it's how I master my craft and get better" Yikes. When I called to see if an appointment was necessary, I was told yes because we are so busy. When I walked in there were 4 empty chairs and only one guy getting a haircut. To add insult to injury they didn't even put any beard oil or anything on my beard as a full service place should. I was looking at a sample of beard oil the front desk girl asked me if my barber put any on me, I said no. I was expecting her to ask if I wanted some. Nope she just offers to sell me some, which I bought because I needed it and was heading to work. Needless to say I faded my own beard and lined myself up. My gf says I probably don't need to go to the barber because I did a much better job. She is right but sometime you just want to be pampered and get that ultimate fresh look with your beard that you can't get yourself, well because this first person view lifestyle I have doesn't give the same advantage as 3rd person. I went in a month or so ago. I guess the guys were all on vacation to a convention so there was only one person holding down the fort. I was in early so there was only one person in front of me in line. I waited 10-15 minutes for the worst haircut I've ever gotten. I'm not sure if the guy had no experience cutting hair or no experience cutting white people's hair but he kept trying to use the clippers with the grain. My hair lies flat against my head so this was obviously completely ineffective. After 20 minutes and a line growing behind me he exclaimed "you have more hair than even you thought!" No, sir, it's your terrible method that was making it take forever. I said it looked fine and I went home and spend an hour fixing the mess he'd left me with. I just moved in a block from here so I'm tremendously disappointed to not have a neighborhood barbershop. read more

Arrived back in town after 3 weeks of being gone an I walked into this shop 45 minutes prior to church service starting. There were two barbers in the shop Tim and John (I think that was his name). The receptionist had me fill out a newcomers form (simple). By the time I filled the form out it was time for me to get in the chair. The guy name is Tim who chopped me up. He did and outstanding job. The cut was nice and gentle he didn't talk to the other barbers while he was cutting. There wasn't loud an obnoxious music playing. He was real gentle and showed me everything he was doing. If there was an issue with anything he pointed it out and gave me choices and best practices. The only conversation he has while he was cutting my hair was professional and with the client (me). The shop was neat and clean and it also smelled great. The wait was not long at all.
