At most, it was estimated that my car needed $2k of repairs (engine belts are expensive). It was the holidays and all mechanics near me were swamped. It would take at least 2 weeks before anyone could start working on my car. So I checked online reviews for other well rated mechanics near me. Chuck Scott Auto was located 18 mile from my home and was frequently mentioned online as the best and most affordable garage. They were also the only mechanic in a 25 mile radius that could start repairing my car immediately, so I had my car towed there. I ended up with a hefty repair bill of $3800, which included $225 for a new battery that I didn't authorize (note that my call history didn't show any missed calls from the garage before they added a new battery the day my car was towed back to my home), 2 new engine belts (even though only one needed replacing), new calipers, new rotaries, new brake pads, etc. According to the bill, my car was basically rebuilt. The car started and looked great. I was shocked at the steep bill, but I figured it was worth it to ensure that it safely operated. A few months later, I had issues with steering and the brake pads getting stuck. So I took my car to a local mechanic. They found that my tires had been loosely attached. It was just a matter of time before the tires fell off while I was driving. In the meantime, the improperly balanced tires were wearing away at the new calipers. I mentioned how much work Chuck Scott Auto had done on my car and showed this mechanic the invoice, which was still in the glove compartment. He checked my car for each item listed on the invoice. The 2 new belts? Only one was new; the second was rusted and looked like it was the original. The expensive new battery that I didn't ask for and probably didn't need? It turned out to be a cheap lead acid battery, not the more energy efficient and longer lasting GEM battery. I recalled that during the initial inspection of my car after auction, no one mentioned an issue with the battery. So the mechanic supposed that the original battery was taken to do repairs for another car and I was given a low quality replacement that wouldn't last a year. Ultimately, the mechanic confirmed that I was majorly ripped off. My car didn't have half of the "new" parts listed on the invoice. I strongly advise other drivers to head elsewhere for car repairs.

Previous to this visit my father and I had been taking our cars and trucks to Bill for repairs for…read morea number of years. I took my 1999 Toyota Corolla to Bill in 2011 to fix the exhaust manifold that had come loose, that was it. When we returned to pick it up he had NOT fixed the manifold and instead replaced the muffler, which did not need to be fixed. The car was still loud and he demanded payment well above other estimates. So we paid it, left, and brought the car home. The following day I was driving to work and the car engine made a loud popping noise then lost power and died. We got the car home to find that a spark plug had come out of the engine. We found that to be weird and checked the others. 3/4 of the spark plugs had been loosened. After tightening them and reinstalling the loose one the car purred back to life. Very weird to have this happen to a car the day after taking it in and having "service" performed on it and being screwed on that service. BUT, that wasn't all. A couple weeks prior to my car needing to be repaired my dads truck had received front brake work from Bill. Well about a month after my incident he noticed his brakes squealing. So rather than take it back to Bill, due to my experience, he took it to another local shop on rte 20 and explained he had work done but the brakes were squealing. There they found that the front brakes were NOT serviced AT ALL!!!!! Bill had made my dad pay for new brakes, rotors, and calipers but then never did the damn service!!!! WHAT A CROOK! Don't make the mistake of taking your car to Bill, he will cheat and swindle you for whatever he can. Disgusting person with a bad business.

I got in contact with a service that had a flatbed truck. After seeing the photos, they said they were afraid that just pulling it out could damage the underside of the car and I needed someone with a wrecker. Did you ever have that awful feeling that you were really stuck somewhere, didn't know where to turn, it was a weekend and you'd probably be stranded until Monday? After some phone calls, tho, a very friendly lady said they could help me and to send photos. She called back shortly saying the truck they needed was on another job but they would be there later that night. And they were. Chris and Jennifer worked in the chilly dark, in the water, with the truck lights on the scene, setting up multiple attachment points, pulling out a bit, resetting the attachment points, and repeat. It took close to an hour and they got the car out with no damage. If you ever need emergency help in central-northern Columbia County, they're the go-to people.
