This is a true farm to table restaurant. We enjoyed a long leisurely lunch that included the 'piggy and fishies' tray, homemade warm bread, cauliflower soup and fish and pork chop mains. Absolutely fantastic meal with wine pairings. We then retired to the lounge for coffee and a bit of a rest before the journey home. A+! The ambiance is 'elegant countryside' and service was top notch. I absolutely must return here with my family in short order as they would love it. So I am an expat now living and running and award winning small inn located in Woodstock Vermont so my standards and expectations are high, and this place delivered. So why not a 5 star....carry on reading. I had been notified by some UK clients of my inn that the Pig chain was a happening place, so on my UK November road trip I spent a night here and had lunch and dinner. The staff are all youthful, perhaps the UK ones are a little 'too home counties' but they all seem to know their jobs and carry out their daily tasks with efficiency. Many of the staff are the real deal from France, and great they were too. My room was comfy luxe, small but very comfortable with a good bathroom and deep bath. It was clean, fresh and the mini bar/tv etc all did the job. An old Roberts radio, now kitted out for digital was a nice touch. I overlooked the gardens and Studland Bay. However for 189 quid I did find the ADDITIONAL requested 15 quid for a full English or 10 quid for a continental breakfast a little picky, thus I ate none. It seemed to me to be exceptionally tight fisted...hence my 4 star rating. The lunch was to quote Michael Winner ...HISTORIC! I dined on crispy veal tail, deviled sprats, south coast hake with chorizo, a bottle of South African wine all served by a attractive and delightful young french waitress, and whilst I don't wish to appear sexist...I was in serious lust! However the condition was purely in my mind as I'm a middle aged fart who keeps these things to himself! A classic lunch of good ingredients prepared and cooked by a well organised kitchen....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! So for dinner I spent the evening in the bar people watching.....Thomas and George were a fine example of good bar staff, chatty in a cheeky sort of way and happy to serve. I was in luck it turned out, as usually they don't have any real ales on tap, but left over from a weekend shindig was a small barrel of excellent local bitter......I managed to make a 4 pint indent into it! I also ate a few bar snacks, saddleback crackling (3 portions it was that good!) Hock eggs (delicious version of a scotch egg) potted trout and crispy cuttlefish....again all 10/10. George told me he was off to Courchevel 1650in 2 weeks to do the winter as head barman in their hotel in the village, having worked over there last winter, and Thomas I hope has been promoted and filled his shoes in Studland as head bar person....he was more than capable. So all in all the place deserves its growing reputation and seemed to be totally full on a November wednesday evening, the restaurant was packed for lunch and dinner, SO DO PRE-BOOK. This fact was made all the more surprising as the Studland ferry was not operating as it was out of service for maintenance for 6 weeks....so folks from Poole/Bournemouth had to make an additional 20 mile round trip.

Wonderful walks all around the unspoilt countryside to work up an appetite for dinner. The hotel is charming with interesting features making it architecturally unique. Our room had a four poster bed and a massive bay window overlooking fields and the beautiful garden. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Relaxing on comfy sofas around the log fire in the lounge, was a great place to savour their cream tea (with home-made scones). The dinners were delicious, with some local delicacies. I especially enjoyed the sea bream and the Dorset apple cake. The staff were very attentive and friendly. All in all it was a real treat. We will definitely be returning soon. It's like a different world, a wonderful escape from hectic city life.

Because it gets very busy it can be difficult to find a table and get served. The food is good, but not great, and fairly expensive. Even so the location makes it worth a visit.

We climbed a mountain!!…read more So we parked at Durdle Door and walked from there to Lulworth Cove! It was windy and cold! We saw this nice looking pub in the tiny village and thought we'd give it a try. Was lovely inside, traditional pub like interior with plenty to look at inside. The food was exceptional, we both had Steak baguettes and they were amazing! Something so simple but the ingredients and the time spent to make the perfect lunch really showed! I can't wait for our next visit.

I'd highly recommend anyone heading to Swanage to stay in this cute building. Located being the town hall, which is a gorgeous building itself, is a lovely lodge with a handful of neatly presented rooms. We stayed for a couple of nights and the hosts were extremely accommodating, even leaving their Friday night plans to come and meet us on our late arrival. The double room was a decent size, hand a huge comfy bed, a lovely tray of teas and coffees etc, and a neat, compact ensuite that looked brand new and squeaky clean and was full of lots of nice toiletries. The lodge is located on the high street, so very close to restaurants and the seashore. When we arrived late in the evening the host kindly informed us that most of the pubs had closed their kitchens but recommended a couple of nearby places that stay open later. We had a delicious meal in an Italian place he suggested we try - it was lovely. Breakfast was cooked and served in a gorgeous room. The options were great - full English, smoked salmon and eggs or kippers (whole or filler) and eggs. There was also a huge range of nuts, seeds, dried fruit and grains to make your own bespoke muesli as well as a variety of stewed fruits and yoghurts too. It was brilliant! Staying there for two nights meant we got to indulge in both the full English and fish breakfasts. To our delight, they also left a Kilner hat outside our room with freshly made cookies at mid morning too. It was such a nice touch! Everyone staying there was happy and the hosts made an effort to chat to us all and talk about different walks and places we could visit. They really went out of their way to make our stay brilliant. Definitely a rare gem in a crowded B&B market!

Let me preface by saying this hotel probably was Grand in its hay day but that was many years ago…read more I overall rated the hotel a 4 because the service is a 5 but the hotel rooms are a 3. Let's start with service. Every employees is very friendly and attentive to your needs. I stayed here with my husband in one room, my mother in law in another room and my sister and law and her family in one of the family rooms. Every morning we would go and order our made to order breakfast of bacon, toast, beans, sausage, full English, cheeses and hams, cereal, fruits etc... while at breakfast almost everyday, our room we be made up for the day. Fresh towels if we wanted and re-stocking of tea and biscuits in room. The bar staff were great and the one night we had dinner on site was great as well! The rooms... from what I've read the third floor was remodeled and those are the photos they use for the advertisements. We all had rooms on the second floor. Rooms 207, 208 and 209 to be exact. The furniture and decor is outdated and the bed was rather u comfortable to sleep on. The bathroom in 207 was very old and the shower was almost like a cave and had mold in it. I know it was clean but still is much to be desired. It was very hot for England last week when we were in Swanage and it was nice that the hotel provided fans in each room to get through the night. Room 208 was a family room and had a double bed and a single bead well as a larger updated bathroom. The big positive of this hotel is the views of the beach and town. It's a great location where you can walk down about 80 steps to the beach where there is nice sandy areas to lay out and there are two beach restaurants very close by for food and chair rentals. It only takes about 10 minutes to get into the center of town if walking as well! You cannot beat the location! Other amenities of the hotel include a small but old gym (don't expect top of the line machines here), a small pool and hot tub as well as a sauna on the bottom floor that walks out to the back garden and beach area. Overall even though it needs updated, the hotel was a nice and the service made up for the lack of remodeling.

When I used the conference suite, it was a bit hard to find and most of us felt quite dozy as grew warmer and warmer. It seems a popular venue for wedding receptions. I was very pleased to find the hotel has free wifi for guests and the real ale in the bar was very well kept. I had a nice starter and a butternut squash and goats cheese risotto in the restaurant and enjoyed the food very much. As this Inn is right in the middle of Corfe it is ideal for exploring the beautiful castle which is just outside the pub and rises over the garden of the inn.

The room was for the two of us, but was massive. Three large single beds to pick from, we did very well indeed. We had a great view of the clean well maintained pool and gardens, not that we had the weather to take a dip. Also a great view out to sea. The hotel is an old building, so the lift for example still has some very retro 60s floral paper. The room however was clearly decorated recently along with reception and the breakfast room. We both slept extremely well and headed down for breakfast. Breakfast was a full English array or continental, or have a but of both. The staff were warm and friendly and quickly brought over our tea and coffee. Great hotel for the price paid!
